Nickelodeon Super Bowl LVIII Broadcast Review

This was better than the CBS broadcast of the game. I am completely serious. Nickelodeon did everything right here, to the point where the only question I have to ask is where they can possibly go from here after a near flawless broadcast that might've been the most impressive broadcast I've ever seen in my life

I Was at a big Super Bowl Party of a European semi-professional football team and a lot of people didn’t understand why KC didn’t go for a field goal because they thought that they would have to score within the 15 quarter. A lot of people were confused about the 15 minutes and two possessions. The Nick broadcast would have helped a lot.

The toughest job had to be Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke (Spongebob and Patrick). You have to be funny, stay in character and not step on the game. I'm guessing they practiced the game several times with Noah and Nate.

This may go down as the biggest single broadcast in the history of Nickelodeon - a cable channel that’s been on the air for 45 years. They had the biggest opportunity for success or failure with this, and it was a rousing success and easily the best of all of their alternate game broadcasts.

I will say I'm eagerly awaiting the documentary about the Sweet Victory performance. I was not happy that they only played the first few notes. I only watched the game because I was waiting for the song, and only stuck around to watch the rest of the game in hopes that they would play the song at the end or something. I don't even remember who was playing or who won the game (I'm honestly not really a big fan of American football anyway). I did enjoy the Nickelodeon broadcast of the Super Bowl, and ended up watching almost the whole game aside from a bit of the first quarter. It won't make me a fan, but it was certainly fun to see. Dora had the best roast with needing the map to find the end zone.

Nick's Super Bowl coverage is just a start when it comes to their involvement with alternative broadcasts as there are plans to do one for the final round of the Masters in April & for the Champions League final in May as a way of introducing golf & soccer (specifically the European game) to kids. This was far better than what the Turner networks (specifically TruTV) is planning on doing for the national championship game in men's college basketball in early April in which in addition to the alternative broadcast on TNT featuring analysis from the Inside the NBA crew there are plans for one on TruTV featuring the Impractical Jokers. Then on top of that, the TruTV broadcast might also have AEW wrestlers compete in a match as a way of promoting that product very similar to how WWE did a match at halftime of the Super Bowl in 1999 (which was Mankind vs the Rock in an Empty Arena match for the WWE title).

Considering Fox is doing the Super Bowl next season and there aren't gonna be any Christmas games next season, I'm assuming that Nickelodeon will probably broadcast a Thanksgiving game and/or the AFC Championship game next season.

Sadly, we would need to wait until 2028 for the next big game to have this simulcast. And by that time, VFX tech will be more advanced than we have today--and it progresses very quickly, especially when AI-type technology is being developed for 3D CGI VFX people (which uses machine learning and neural networks but is not the generative AI that is emerging right now) and could mean much better real time VFX that you could even match the lighting--the characters would cast realistic shadows on the field and actually look like they belong there. I sorta regret not putting on the Nickelodeon broadcast the whole time. I did flip between CBS and Nick a few times, but seeing how everything is, I should just have stuck with Nick. Because it's obvious that those in the production for the Nickelodeon side is much more passionate about making this work, so I bet that when the broadcast was over, the directors, the graphics guys, everyone, was sweating but celebrating like the Chiefs were because they knew they pulled it off.

Honestly I hope Nickelodeon has a broadcast at least close to this scale for the AFC title game every that CBS doesn't have the Super Bowl, because this was just too good to have every four years. Honestly: CBS and Jim Nantz should be banned from calling super bowls. I swear to god every time Jim Nantz calls a game he’s in golf mode. Smooth golf whisper monotoned voice with no emotion or life. CBS curtails their broadcasts (shows and sports) to boomers. I’ve never heard someone yell in excitement “ PUT ON CBS WE CANT MISS WHATS GOING ON THERE”… cbs could’ve had Kevin Harlan call this game but noooooo they have to go with the guy whose energy screams boomer and conservative principles.
