The entire band Fanny and especially Nickey were so very unique and unexplainably a very underrated band. She was an Amazing and Original style keyboardist. Watching her play the piano was as mesmerizing and hypnotic as watching Ruth Underwood play the Marimba and Vibraphone with Frank Zappa and The Mothers. Fortunately, My older sister was hip to the band Fanny in the 70's So I got to hear their music at a very young age. I still prefer to listen to female vocalists and musicians. My favorites are, Gin Wigmore... Tori Amos... Beth Hart... POE... Luscious Jackson... Ambrosia Parsley of Shivaree... Hari Lake... Dragster Barbie... LunaChicks... Betty Blowtorch... Hole... The Donnas... Cycle Sluts From Hell... Bif Naked... Etc...

Most comments seem to assume this is a recording by the band called Fanny. Read the description. It isn't.

What is her story? I just saw the FANNY movie--The Right To Rock--and she is not in it and they only say she did not want to have anything to do with the band anymore . AT ALL. WHat else is her story? She is so talented!

@@wandanowicki2267 Hi! She retired from music pretty much after the release of this LP. She has gone on record as stating that she is exceedingly proud of her time in Fanny and their contributions to music, but that that particular phase of her life was very fraught and she just prefers not to think about it. She has had limited contact with her former bandmates and there is no longer any true animosity on any side, it's just that everyone's moved forward at this point. Oh, and during that interview she also mentioned that their manager's dog once pooped in Alice's bass drum :D

Fanny was certainly a great band, and probably one of the most underrated bands of the era, but you do realize that NONE of these tracks are Fanny. They are all from Nickey's solo album "Diamond in a Junkyard." I was her guitarist during this period and I can tell you ,she was an absolutely amazing talent. She was up there with the likes of Janis Joplin. Terry Reid was her male counterpart. Both relatively unknown to the general public, but both among the very best singers and musicians of the last 50 years.

It's too bad the ladies in Fanny couldn't have figured out a way to get past the infighting. They would have been in the Hall of fame many years ago if they had been able to hold it together. Unfortunately, this is the story in the majority of bands (even the Beatles). Everybody wants to be the big dog. The great ones who survive are the ones who can eat their ego enough for the good of everybody.

Indeed, though I understand there were few Nickey Barclay did get on with. She has a tendency to make too many enemies, she never did learn when best to bite her tongue. Within Fanny it was only drummer Alice de Buhr who was on reasonable terms with her. When the group were on the road touring, which they did a lot of, it was Alice who was tasked with getting an often cranky Nickey Barclay out of bed in the morning after a gig. None of the others (manager and roadies included) would go anywhere near her.
