I think Chris Pine's (Jack Frost) voice acting in the scene where Jamie sees him for the first time is just phenomenal, you can clearly hear the emotion in his voice. And the fact they left the scene practically colorless allows the audience to just take in the pure emotion on Jack's face which was also so well animated. Honestly just a wonderful, feel-good movie with a lot of very nice themes.

The thing about Sandman and Pitch is that, I believe, that Pitch corrupted Sandman's power of dreams to create nightmares. Pitch's center is Fear. So he learned to manipulate Sandman's dreams. This is why he had to wait so long to start his attack. The black sand isn't his own power. He stole it. That is why Sandman is the one Guardian he really feared. One on one, Sandman was far more powerful than Pitch. He could reclaim his sand and dreams fairly easily. That was why Pitch had to wait until he could overwhelm him and then destroy him when he was distracted. It also explains why the nightmares turned on him at the end. They were his creations, but not really his power. It makes sense too. Of the four original guardians, belief in good dreams would, most likely, be the last one kids would stop believing in. So Sandman would have the most believers at any point in time.
@Yugioh420
@Yugioh420 2 жыл бұрын
There's a bit more to it. In the beginning there was three beings of power, the man in the moon who is the top guy. And lights up the night sky while controlling the tides. Pitch who's original job was to protect children from the things that prowl the night by making them afraid to venture out at night. And Sandy who kept them safe in there beds with good dreams. Then Pitch realized the more fear people had the more powerful he became. To the point he was able to start spreading fear to the adults too. This created the dark ages. So to counter pitch the man in the moon sent sandy help in the form of santa the tooth fairy and the easter bunny. As humans grew in numbers and there belief systems grew so to did the spirits but they where lesser spirits like jack frost, the leprechaun whose job was to care for Luck, the Ground Hog who decides when winter ends. And probably others. I would assume cupid for love.

I appreciate the amount of action, fun, danger, and heart (seriously gets me in the feels every time) in this story. I agree. Each of them had their own symbol of their power. I particularly loved the end bit with the Tooth Fairy. When he gave Pitch the quarter. It was a fun reversal of her power. It's terribly awkward to make the Easter Bunny Australian, when rabbits were an import from English colonists and proceeded to screw up Australia's ecosystem. Over there they do have the Easter Bilby though, which is far more adorable to me. Too bad Dreamworks didn't do a sequel. They could've gone more in depth with Pitch's backstory, which is rather tragic and sad in the books.

I'm so glad you watched this; I've loved it since I saw it in theaters, and it still makes me emotional every time I watch it. North's speech about his eyes filled with wonder is probably my favorite quote in the movie. Fun fact: The movie is actually inspired by a book series called The Guardians of Childhood, which takes place well before the movie and explains how everyone came to be. The scene in the movie with Pitch and Jack is made even more emotional when you find out that Pitch actually used to be a good guy who had a wife and daughter, and who was supposed to guard an imprisoned race known as Fearlings. But the Fearlings mimicked the voices of his wife and daughter day and night, eventually convincing him the two were in there with the Fearlings, and Pitch ended up letting the Fearlings free. The Fearlings then took over Pitch, turning him into the bad guy he is here. So that line about "I don't know what it feels like to be cast out? To long for a family?"....Yeah. Ouch.

This story speaks so strongly to me not JUST because it reminds me to nurture my inner child and see the wonder and hope in life... but also because Jack is so relatable in his _loneliness_ and uncertainty as to his purpose. It's a brilliant archetype character to put in a kids' movie, because THAT'S the one that's relatable to the *adults* in the audience. We all feel Jack's quiet desperation when he yells to whoever might be up there, "YOU put me here! The LEAST you can do is tell me... tell me _why."_

Everyone watches this around Christmas even tho in the movie the time is near Easter which is like between March 22 and April 25 Also if you want a really good animated movie for Christmas you NEED to check out Netflix's Klaus, its so good and a really awesome take on the Santa Claus story

Omg! I'm so glad you reacted to this movie, it's literally my favorite DreamWorks film and it's such an underrated gem! This movie actually takes place during the Spring season but because the movie contains Jack Frost and Santa Claus, most people think it's a Christmas film. But its still a great film for the Christmas/Winter holiday season anyways! Jack Frost is actually the most powerful Guardian besides the Sandman. That's why they needed him to beat Pitch Black because although Sandman is powerful and the bringer of good dreams, Sandmam and Pitch Black are 2 different sides of the same inverted coin since Pitch is the bringer of nightmares and will never truly disappear since fear & darkness can always be present. Jack Frost is an elemental bringer of Winter, and the guardian of Fun, which is essential for nature and childhood. So he doesn't necessarily need to be believed in, in order for him to maintain his power just as Pitch and Sandman. Fun Fact: Many fans, myself included, ship Jack Frost with Queen Elsa from the Frozen films! Disney jokes about/encourages the ship in a scene in Wreck - It Ralph 2.

It's so weird to me hearing someone say they never heard of sandman when here in Germany, he even has his own little evening television show for little children, which I used to watch almost every evening when I was a kid, before going to bed. It was tradition. But I guess it's understandable, not all fable and folklore creatures are known in every country of the world.

If you read the original Guardians of Childhood books you can actually find out all of their origin stories. Those are the books this film was based on. 😊 Highly recommend! They’re really good! “The Man in the Moon” and “Sandman: The Story of Sanderson Mansnoozy” are the first two, and are more in the format of children’s picture books. But the artwork in them is absolutely stunning, and while they’re short stories, they have a lot of heart. ☺️ (and honestly the parts with Pitch are surprisingly dark for children’s stories, pun only slightly intended) Then there are the longer books “Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King,” “E.Aster Bunnymund and the Battle of the Warrior Eggs at the Earth’s Core,” and “Toothiana: Queen of the Tooth Fairy Armie” There’s a couple others after that (like a second book for Sandman, and one for Jack Frost) but those are the ones I own and have read so far. 😊

Always enjoy your reactions!!! so you know Jack Frost is just a kind of magical Spirit and probably best explained by the movie "guardian" of the winter a person/magical being, people used in the early days to explain how the frost and snow came every year. you might have even heard him in older Christmas songs for example "chestnuts roasting by an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose" Jack frost also appears in a few other movies like The Legend of Santa Claus 2 there's even a classic stop motion on one of the tales that were told about him. Where he's depicted as a young spirit who is known for his mysterious and playful nature.

ROTG is my favorite Dreamworks film & I fell in love with it back when I saw it in the theatre, in fact I saw it twice in theatres (& almost a third time!) It's amazing how it manages to capture the feeling of childhood, as well as what it feels like to grow up, aka to stop believing in things like Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny & Tooth Fairy. Edit: Btw, if you're still wondering, Pitch was voiced by Jude Law. (Since you mentioned recognizing his voice.)

Interestingly there were a few comics, official or fanmade I couldn't tell, that explored Pitch Black's backstory in regards to his relationship with the Guardians and how he learned to corrupt Sandy's sand. When he met them was at the height of his power, using fear to motivate humanity to survive and enjoy the strength it gave him, and the Man in the Moon had just conscripted the Guardians, North invited them all to his workshop and offered Pitch to join them but he refused to use his powers to help others. Over the years he came across them as the Guardian's work diminished his powers to the modern-day. Highlights include when Sandy blamed Pitch for the Salem Witch Trials saying he may have influenced their fear but they decided to hunt and execute innocent people mocking Sandy by saying he should "give them dreams of witch burnings". During one of these Witch Trials, Pitch noticed that the priest conducting the trial was being controlled by a monster and since people still believed in the boogeyman they noticed it too and ran away, infuriating the monster who blamed Pitch for his kind being hunted down towards extinction. Afterward, Pitch is helped by a homeless boy with a harelip who asks why he's not afraid of him. He explains that he lived in fear his whole life as Pitch ponders why fear and superstitions make people abandon children with deformities. During a fight with Tooth she, tells Pitch that the Harelip boy has passed as he denies caring about the death of a mortal, when she returns home she contemplates whether she should have told Pitch that he was one of the harelip boy's important memories. During the Great Christmas Truce, Pitch and North get into an argument on how there can be merriment and goodwill during wartime as it is surrounded by death and hatred. Pitch mentions that a Christmas Truce will never happen again, and as North is noticed by an underage soldier he comments that once was good enough to remember the importance of love and brotherhood. As Pitch realizes that his powers are fading more and more he is approached by a writer who recognizes him, later revealed to be famed horror author H. P. Lovecraft, and asks if he could talk to him about his existence. Pitch obliges and explains that he and the other spirits of the world that represent human emotions and beliefs have taken more humanoid forms due to human stories and desire to interact with them at the cost of their own powers but forces like death still remain alien to humans. Now powerless, Pitch watches as the Guardians continue their spreading of light and joy as Pitch stews in his anger and fear as he attacks one of Sandys dreams where he learns that he can corrupt them by touch.

My niece and nephew wanted me to watch this film with them, and I had no idea about any of it beforehand. I love the film, it's so clever and unique, but what I remember most about sharing that experience with them was that for the first 1/2 of the film it was driving me nuts because I knew I recognized the voice of Jack Frost but couldn't identify who he was (and weirdly, their DVD didn't list the voice actors on the packaging). I was like, I know this person, I know I've seen him in films, I KNOW that voice, but without the face, with just the voice to go on, it wasn't coming to me. I had to know who it was! And now that I know it's Chris Pine, I was like, OF COURSE. Yes, that's totally him. :D
