Nick Foulkes & Sons

Nick Foulkes & Sons

Күн бұрын

A bumper episode of #Foulkes&Sons in which Max learns that #cognac is made in #France and can be quite strong but not made with spiders’ legs. We taste the truly spectacular #Bolivar #Belicoso #Reserva - all the more remarkable as neither of us usually favour the stronger, sorry fuller flavoured, cigar, but we make an exception in this case for a genuinely excellent #Havana .
I recall boarding the @hinecognacs private jet to fly to the #Charente for a memorable tasting of cognac and cigars with the late Nick Freeman who only that morning had taken delivery of a very smart new cashmere blazer from his tailor. Max expatiates on the excellence of his charity shop bought Persols and we use the Ferranti collection #guillotine cigar cutter.
We discuss the highlights of the Reserva and Gran Reserva ranges and I give Max a crash course in brandy appreciation: if its brownish, made of grapes, and quite strong then you can call it a brandy.
Plus the best tasting note ever: smells like an unkempt barnyard full of dinosaurs.

I sat in my chair listening and watching, 5 minutes then 10, before acknowledging I’ve smoked few cigars & know even less about them…. It didn’t seem relevant, in the end, bc the video is about style, fathers and sons, life…. I’ve since become something of a beginner, using your videos to map out my path in this world of flavorful smoke. Thank you. And, on behalf of Yanks everywhere I apologize for KA. We aren’t all so flaccid, slow, and boring. I do hope you two keep sharing- your style sets you apart. Absolutely nothing like it.

Was lucky enough to meet Max about a week ago while paying a visit to Davidoff's. I've been watching videos from the regular ensemble of the Sahakians, the Foulkes', and Kirby Allison for a while now and, as a younger person with a passion for old-school customs, find pleasure in their appreciation of tradition and artisanship. Max was wonderful, taking time to help me find the perfect cigar for my liking that day. Also had the distinct pleasure of meeting and chatting with the commensurate icon in the shape of Ed Sahakian...what a gentleman indeed! Thank you all for the work you do and for bringing this community of like-minded aficionados together!

Lovely addition of beautiful white Azaelius? from Lady Antonia now all dying from cigar inhilation! Your humour rising to the occasion and greatness in line with this amazing rare stoogie. Well done Thankyou very much indeed. I look forward to your next presentation, maybe a treat of aontger location? Many thanks again. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Great and brilliant job as usual … it’s always a pleasure to find out a new Foulkes and Sons video. As a French viewer, I would like to light up what happened to the Max’s customer who send cigars to one of his friends in France. You should keep in mind that buying cigars (and in fact tobacco) online is forbidden in France … and it Is so also for sending them by mail for commercial purpose. Even a legal tobacco shop in south of France is legally not allowed to send cigars by mail to a customer in another part of France. So, if customs find tobacco in a parcel, usually they keep and destroy it. And the receiver could have a fine to pay. But it is the first time I heard that someone get the parcel with destroyed cigars inside, after it was checked by the French customs. That said, a way (illegal of course) is to not declare what is really inside the parcel. And write that you gift for example a “wooden box” …but there is always a risk.

Gents.... thanks for all your videos, I find them very entertaining. In this episode, I see you are enjoying a pretty powerful smoke. Of course, I appreciate Nick is a non drinker, while Max has recently learned that Cognac comes from France, but you both seem to be having a good time. So the question is: do you think a strong cigar can have a similar effect on one's demeanour as does alcohol? Personally, I think it can, but I'd love to hear your views. Merci.
