Foulkes and sons S3 E6

One of our more eccentric forays Into the world of online broadcasting sees us dressing in honour of the American designer Halston while enjoying an exquisite 20 year old Le Hoyo de Depute
Edward Sahakian of Davidoff in London, the legend, discovered a cache of packs of five of these delightful little cigars. They take me back to the early 1990s when it was my favourite post lunch cigar, and I tell Max how are how in those long-gone far-off days I used to toddle across the road from Le Caprice to the humidor room at #Davidoff for a celebratory cigar.
We compare the cigar band on the 20-year-old version with its Current incarnation and prefer the former.
Also expect diversions and digressions on Charles X And Louis Philippe, the last monarchs of France and how the names of this particularly enjoyable range of cigars recall for me at least, France before the second empire. Max recalls his studies at Oxford and Imperial, and we talk about the deleterious effect of badgers on the Magdalen deerpark.

It’s not a podcast; it’s a video appreciation of tobacco arts, a/k/a a “Smoke Screen”. And Halston factors into my most decadent memory of the 1970’s - 1978 to be precise. Thanks to the lax (non-existent) Bahamian gaming rules, I was allowed to rove the floor of the casino adjoining the now-defunct Loew’s Paradise Island Hotel and the Brittania Beach Hotel, and got to watch my father play blackjack with the couturier himself, resplendent in a black suit with silver pinstripes and a black turtleneck. Even at the wee age of ten and a half years, I could appreciate the moment, as evidenced by the fact the memory has stayed rich for four plus decades.
