Great video, thank you! My only question is does the direct connection to the battery drain it? I've heard some comments in the past about other cameras that having that issue :(
@nickhodgeUK2 жыл бұрын
No. The camera switches off completely as soon as the switch wire (yellow) gets a signal the ignition is off (in fact the power supply maintains a short period of power after this signal to ensure the last files are safely written). What DOES drain many batteries are trackers as they are powered 24/7 for obvious reasons and motorcycle batteries are small. My bike is connected at all times to a ‘smart’ charger

The Mac side will be fine. All you have to do with any motorcycle is connect a battery and find a switched wire to plumb into. As most stuff is under seats just head to the rear light is what I’d do and use a positap to ‘break’ into it without too much damage. Good luck

Nice detailed video, good production and detail, lots of time making this quality video, many thanks. I wonder if it's worth trying to mount the cameras with some minor shock mounting, ie rubber grommets of some kind, to help mitigate camera shake? Perhaps Innov will eventually upgrade the system with some form of image stabilisation in the future. However, I can see that being implemented only on the flagship K5 model, with added cost..but eventually might trickle down to the lower models. Also, a low-cost sacificial lens cover might be nice too, certainly for the front camera, as I imagine over time, scratched lenses are inevitable.
@nickhodgeUK3 жыл бұрын
You make interesting points but I feel this is an evidential camera NOT really a vlogging one. I use GoPros for that. It does come with rubber pads but my experience is that allows ‘bounce’. See my K2 video. I would like to see better image quality before stabilisation for sure. 1080p is fine. Hi nick. I’m going to fit the k3 camera to my gs adventure 2019. I don’t have an hex ezcan. I’m also going to get the innovv power hub 3. I emailed innovv about where to fit the yellow wire to the canbus system they wouldn’t give me an answer. They just gave me a link to your KZbin site and watched what they sent about fitting the k3 to the gs. Very good I must say👍 I’m still no wiser where to fit/splice the yellow wire into the canbus system. I’m not very technical minded at all so any help where to fit the yellow wire would be gratefully accepted. Thanks Martin.
@nickhodgeUK10 ай бұрын
Martin. This is where it gets a little technical. If you have a multimeter you need to find a wire into something like the rear light that only has power when ignition on. Bit difficult to explain in a comment but you turn the multimeter to the 20v DC setting and then make sure the negative (black) wire from the multimeter is earthed. Then with the positive lead (red) from the multimeter, tough the cables in the rear light for example and with it held switch the ignition on and if you get a 13-14v reading that disappears when ignition is off then that’s the cable to ‘tap’ into. Sorry I can’t tell you more than that as I’ve never had to tap into the BMW loom so don’t know the colour. Maybe try googling as someone must have done it. Hope that helps some 👍🏻
@martindove281910 ай бұрын
@@nickhodgeUK Thanks nick. I’m not to happy about going into the loom. I’m looking at the Healtech thunder box they just have 2 wires that go onto the battery which knows when the ignition is on and off. Reckon I need more information on this tho. Always enjoy your videos. And thanks again. 👍👍

Stuart. Are you leaving it long enough?? The power supply has. 10-15 second delay in powering up and down. To test the DVR unit simply hold the yellow wire to the positive of the battery. Wait for it to power on and then remove the yellow and this way you’ll measure the period of power up and down. Next you will need to be sure you have the CanSmart circuit you are using as a ‘standard accessory’ circuit. (1A fuse should be enough) you do this through the CanSmart software. @nickhodgeUK3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin. It really depends what you are doing with it. For evidence purposes the K3 is totally fine and most importantly over cheaper units, reliable. Fit and forget. I check it’s working before setting off on major rides and that’s it. I do use the footage in some videos and it’s perfectly adequate and offers the shot when the GoPro wasn’t in or a slightly different angle. I only use 1080p (even on my 4K GoPros) as few people view in 4K and it is much more intensive to edit and process. Also the K3 is much easier to site as the cameras and DVR unit are separate whereas the DVR incorporates the front camera in the K5 to allow for the throughput on signal so it’s a camera in a big box at the front. If you must have 4K then you must have the K5 but with more people watching videos on smaller devices you may be spending unnecessarily. Hope that helps? 👍🏻

Hey, quick question, why do the camera need GPS? And do I need an internet subscription for the wifi? Why do I need wifi? Thanks.

Don’t confuse WiFi with internet. The WiFi is just a wireless network available so you can download stuff onto the app wirelessly. I prefer to do it by cable or take the card out as the WiFi transfer is slow. So no, you need no subscription. GPS is used so you have a position stamp on the footage. The GPS does not have to be upright. It just need to be as near clear sight to satellites as possible. That is not under a metal tank or buried deep in the bike somewhere. It is directional so should be mounted by the flat side not the curved one. Not sure what you mean by can’t access anything in iPhone but if you mean can’t connect the app you need first to go to your WiFi settings in the phone and connect to the INNOVV K3 xxxxx network. Edmund. I think you misunderstand the capabilities. The WiFi and video is not designed for ‘real time’ playing and indeed there is little need for it and it would just be.a distraction. The WiFi ‘output’ should connect automatically but you will normally need to connect your phone to the Innovv unless your phone is set to ‘always connect to known networks’ and it’s the only known network it can see but as I say, ‘streaming’ is not a recognised function so it is also not necessary to connect to WiFi continuously 🤞🏻

@nickhodgeUK3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dale. I was given the K3 by Innovv as they had had enough reviews on the K5 so I can’t honestly tell you. However here’s my ‘take at distance’. The K5 has the DVR built into the front camera which makes it difficult to site although the box is of course not under the seat or elsewhere. I think this means the front camera only is 4K although I can’t confirm that but expect the bit rate needed means the camera must be ‘close’ to the internal electronics to allow the higher bit rate. On 4K generally. I started using it but you need a high end machine to edit it in any reasonable time. I spent £3k on a machine suitable and even then I still record in 1080p and ‘upscale’ to 4K as I get 4K results without the editing overhead. I hate that job!! Also so very few viewers have equipment to play back 4K properly. It will come but maybe in 5+years??? That’s all I can give you but hope it helps? 👍🏻

I have a 2 channel set up on my GS which isn't an Innov but similar plus a hexezecan and found it easier when installing both to remove the seat brace entirely as it's only held in place by 8 Torx bolts. With that removed it's so much easier to route all the cables and make a neater job as you can hide a lot of them out of the way underneath leaving more space where the control unit has to go. I also mounted my rear camera on top of the rear light and routed the cable through where the rear light cables go which is a really nice neat fit. Cheers Ade

Overall, I think it would not be worth the upgrade but I have considered fitting the K2 to my "second" bike and investing in a new K3 for my GS. What about the K5? 4K but a strange form factor for the main unit...
@nickhodgeUK3 жыл бұрын
I think the K2 may still fetch £100+ is another consideration. The K5 has 4K and the faster WiFi but the 4K files will be huge and faster WiFi probably offsets that. I only use my Innovv for evidential and the many occasions the GoPro is either not on or the battery’s flat!! I only use 1080P on my GoPro so really not interested in 4K. The DVR being part of the front camera also makes it a much more difficult fit I would think. Over my K2 the new metal connectors and the rubber door made it for me 🤣👍🏻

@@dinoe820 hi Dino. Yes it will. Even the K2 had a microphone but only internal. The K3 only added an external option with the microphone supplied.

Hy Nick, and thanks for your great video! I don't understand where I have to connect the yellow cable, maybe free? Someone thinks ez excam is necessary, you not? Bye
@nickhodgeUK Жыл бұрын
You must connect the yellow wire into a wire than comes on only with the ignition. This would be something like tail light, indicators, horn. You do not need an EzyCan. It just makes it a little easier 👍🏻

I talked to INNOVV support regarding GPS module placement and was told that how it's shown in this video is fundamentally wrong! The module MUST be installed with GPS logo pointing UP. No wonder I constantly got inaccurate (or completely missing) GPS data following this installation instruction
@nickhodgeUK2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. It’s been working a long while for me wrong. (K2 and K3 across 3 GS’s and now my K1600 (although that is a different fitment). The key to any GPS module is to give it ‘free air’ and yes. If you’re on the cusp of not doing that then direction will matter particularly with what are effectively low cost, low powered modules. Innovv do still have this video on both the worldwide and UK sites and their tech team have never mentioned it with me but again thanks for the comment as it may be useful to future fitters 👍🏻

@@nickhodgeUK Thanks for the reply. I just wanted to share INNOVV recommendation. I'm still investigating the issue I have with embedded GPS data. And I'm not convinced that the problem is in the module location/orientation, because I do see GPS info in the video overlay, but when I extract GPS data from the video (with Dashcam Viewer) all GPS related fields are ZEROs...
@nickhodgeUK2 жыл бұрын
Have you tried picking it up with the support at dashcam viewer?? Despite the premium price of the Innovv the GPS unit is quite low grade and therefore it’ll always need ‘help’. I don’t extract the data from the video as to see a route I export the gpx file recorded from my BMW connected app and put that into Garmin Basecamp. Good luck though 👍🏻

@@nickhodgeUK Can you help u explaining how to do the yellow wire and what we need for material?
@nickhodgeUK Жыл бұрын
@bramdrone the yellow wire is the switching wire. The power supply has power from the battery all the time but that only allows power to the DVR unit to switch everything on when the yellow wire receives a signal. This signal comes from the ignition. What you need to do is connect the yellow wire to something else that comes on with the ignition. E.g tail light, etc. likewise when the ignition goes off the yellow wire ceases to have a signal and the DVR switches off. Any lightweight electrical cable will do to connect to the motorcycle wiring and the yellow cable 👍🏻
@bramdrone Жыл бұрын
@@nickhodgeUK Thx for quick responce, and this wire from exaple taillight is also yellow on the bike?
@nickhodgeUK Жыл бұрын
@bramdrone I doubt that. You’ll need to poke the yellow wire from power supply into back of bike electrical sockets and see if DVR comes on with ignition. This way you’ll soon find one (wait a few seconds after ignition on for DVR to power up though as it won’t be instant on power up or down)

The K5 is nice but I really only use the Innovv as an always on camera. The amount I use it’s footage (thankfully) is low so happy for quality from it and then GoPros for ‘pretty’ videos

Good Morning Nick, thanks for taking the time to make the video on the installation and set up of the K3, I used your vid as reference for my installation also the tip on where to put the GPS module 👍, couple of questions how do I delete the files or do they just automatically get taped over when the card is full & just to clarify is it one press of the button to save a file and two presses to take a photo ? Thanks Mark

Both nuts are right hand nuts. You can’t have different handed nuts on the same bolt. Further, if they were different you would not have to turn them in different directions to tighten them. Think about it.
@nickhodgeUK Жыл бұрын
I don’t have the GS now but the mirror doesn’t screw directly into the lever clamp. It goes into a stub with an opposite thread to the lever clamp so they are drawn together as you tighten 👍🏻

why does the camera have gps ?

Evidentially to show where you are precisely and to provide the speed. It can also be used in dashcam viewer to lay in your video the provide an actual animated map as your video plays

Had the K2 on my BMW R1200GS and wss very disappointed about the video quality while moving. Even in highest resolution! I see same in your driving fragments at the end of video. Also system didn’t survive my trip over Iceland. Was wet there this is true. As dashcam system useless, you can read a numberplate while driving....
@nickhodgeUK3 жыл бұрын
Hi Harrie on the K2 you may get a better quality at 720p as the bit rate struggles at 1080. Be aware my video is 1080p rendered at 4K which won’t help it. Certainly I had no issues with my K2 over 3 years. K3 too short to tell. I am liking the card access though already 👍🏻🤣

@@nickhodgeUK To be honest Nick, it sounds like the theme to a 1970s American sitcom lol. But, an excellent explanation again mate. However, I’m not sure that the GPS antenna is meant to be on its side, I think flat is the right way, but I do think it’s not much of an issue, as I had mine in the same way you have yours on my previous bike, I’ve put mine at the back, to the rear of the pillion seat, under the plastic, on my new bike. Cheers anyway Nick, all the way from Pompey.
