@Luschan Жыл бұрын
Aggressively asking “hey, are you going to talk?” when someone is acting withdrawn or quiet is one of the worst things you can do as an interviewer, hahaha. If I’m feeling shy or uncomfortable, being talked to like that is not going to help, it would just make me clam up even more. Notice that Bob immediately does the opposite. He turns toward Stephen and addresses him directly, with a specific empathetic question and a neutral energy. And it works- instead of waiting for Stephen to interject and join the conversation (not gonna happen) he’s given an in to talk about himself and open up. People say he’s stoned, but I think he’s just quiet and in his head. Especially during a televised MTV interview, where the interviewer is only bringing up totally inane topics.

It's amusing to me how Bob keeps addressing the interviewer by his name ("That's right, Lewis...")

Word on the street at the time said SM was told to “be cool” right before the interview so hence the tension. Classic.

My friends and I drove to Morgantown WV from Boston to see the final show of that tour Bob mentions. It was in a small bar and was absolutely amazing. They did an improv jam near the end of the set. It was graduation weekend at UWV and we luckily scored the last hotel room in the entire city. 1994! What a time to be alive!!

In fairness to the interviewer, he is trying to make good television, and it doesn't help to have a couple of stoned guys just sitting there like a bump on a log. It's like these guys think they are Rico Blanco or something. Love their music, but they don't come off as awesome guys here.
