It has always been a publicity campaign and never ever have I seen so much uproar about a white performer. Performances have mainly been headlined by popular music acts that year. I honestly don’t know where the idea suddenly came from that you have to earn the right to perform the Super Bowl through years of hard labour. Only black people could ever take such an elitist view to justify their not liking the chosen performer. There is also no requirement that you are from the city either. If that was the case The Weeknd wouldn’t have ever been allowed to perform.

I have no issue with Kendrick performing at the Haltime show. I would say that Lil Wayne has been more relevant in pop culture throughout the years and also has more recognizable hits. But maybe he'll get a shot at it in a few years, who knows. There isn't really a queue for these things. I do rate Kendrick highly and would always have him in a top rapper list. He's one of the greats. Lyrically and artistically Kendrick is in an elite level. But, I would say he lacks hits and recognizable/iconic songs that people remember. And thats also kinda important for a Haltime show. It took him until the beef with Drake to really have a massive hit hit with Not Like Us.

What he(and a committee) does is create a shortlist of artists to give to the host city.. And then the host city’s officials choose from that list who they want to perform.
