I used to live in Kenosha. I've been in Illinois for the last decade (not really by choice) and went back to town a couple months ago. While I still love Kenosha, I couldn't wait to get out of Milwaukee. There was a homeless person with a sign asking for money at literally the very first exit, and several more homeless just wandering around. It was the middle of the afternoon. Many of the streets felt dirty and narrow. Many of the buildings felt dumpy. I wouldn't want to be in this area at night. I'm glad that you love it but I don't know, even as a relatively local resident I can't say that I'd want to live in Milwaukee. Maybe there are some nice suburbs away from the interstate and downtown area, I don't know.

Smelling fresh cut grass in the spring.... Most any bar you go you will find 5 star food not to mention Friday night fish fry! 4 season change is a must have! I do not live far from portage and have been to many of the towns you mentioned. Ironically, Brown Deer used to be one of the most affluent cities in Wisconsin. And Portage is very close to Wisconsin Dells and Baraboo, where there are a lot of things to do year round. The crime problems in a lot of Wisconsin cities came about with the rise of gangs. @gracedavidkufahl97843 жыл бұрын
I think these lists are so misleading. I've lived in Wisconsin all my life. I've spent time in every city in this video except Antigo. The only one on the list I agree with is Racine. I would move to any of the rest of them. I was in Beloit last night grocery shopping and I wasn't afraid for my life. Full disclosure, a lot of Wisconsinites do dislike and fear Beloit, but I wonder how many of them have spent much time there. It does have a nice downtown area, good people, some really nice neighborhoods and the best Farmer's Market around. People all over in Wisconsin are generally friendly. It's not the most diverse or sophisticated place to live, but it's charming and laid back and you can't beat the scenery. By and large, we also don't have to worry about hurricanes, earth quakes and wild fires. We don't even seem to get as many tornadoes, floods or ice storms as nearby states. It gets cold and hot here, but not too extreme. By the way, ice fishing may be bigger in WI than other places, but not everyone here ice fishes. I've never been and I never will. I know very few people who have ever been ice fishing. It seems like creators of these kinds of videos rely heavily on statistics, which don't always paint an accurate picture. I think they should take the time to talk to a good cross section of people who live in these places to get an idea of what they're actually like.

I was born and raised in WI, still living here and I find your passion and love for defending this great state both commendable and a little shortsighted. Nick is poking fun at some of the mannerisms people carry about this state and honestly most of the small towns and most of the list he shared was only bad in one impacting way.If you want to make a video, then make your own. But based on what you said, your top 10 worst places to live in WI would probably consist of one city and 9 from IL. And it’s a joke that we all ice fish. He’s just pointing out how limited there is to do in a state where your four seasons are Summer, Pre-Winter, Actual Winter and Post-Winter. But in my hometown of Reedsburg, kids in high school would wear their hunting camouflage to school, ride tractors to school, get drunk off their parents liquor on the weekends, do drugs in a park one city block away from where I lived, or they ate cheese and went icefishing. Small towns have very little things to do and if parents don’t direct their kids or don’t actively fill their lives with alternatives, these things happen. He can joke we all drink beer and eat cheese and hunt and icefish because that describes a good percentage of people. Hope this didn’t ruffle you up, and I get not wanting to be lumped in with people you don’t feel you belong. But I think you are taking this list a little too personal. But that’s just my opinion.

I live in Michigan. Same trashing goes on here. But I can go to free outdoor concerts every night in summer in the midmichigan tri-city area. The surrounding areas are afraid to step foot in some towns. The haters need a place to hate. Yes, there is crime, including murder. But, by and large, if you avoid some parts of town and stay home late at night, you'll be okay. The amenities cities offer are amazing: art museums, children's museum, libraries, senior center and services, awesome parks and pools, etc. Small towns have less crime, but less diversity, entertainment, parks, and are often a non-gated gated community. Outsiders are regarded with scorn, fear, suspicion and outright hostility. Even when they smile to your face, they are talking about you behind their back. Not everyone, but a lot.

At that time, thanks to the town being at the intersection of two fairly busy state highways, there were three fine dining restaurants - Stimach's, Loefler's, and The Blackjack- which were pretty impressive for a town of that size. I disagree completely. Kenosha is going down the tubes. Sure, there are some things that are better but some of the negatives outweigh the positives. Not being overly dependent on the auto industry is a huge plus, but the political leadership is corrupt, the schools are SHODDY and the school board incompetent. Tony Evers throwing fuel on the fire and the mayor/police of Kenosha allowing the city to burn for days certainly didn't help. Anyone who thinks this place has gotten better isn't paying attention. Crime is worse, the lake area is mismanaged and a general zoo (they have restricted parking down by the harbor and will ticket people minutes after 7 PM when it is still light until 9:30 PM.), the cliquey downtown scene...no thanks. It isn't that special to be treating it so. It is laughable. People drive like maniacs all over town with fatalities every year in places with 30-35 MPH speed limits. That just shouldn't be happening. These things could be dealt with but it is obvious the leaders and police do not care to deal with those problems. The fact they refuse to somehow get a bus route out to walmart and has repeatedly shut down walmart locations in the city says it all. Government = Full of leftist clowns. That closed Pick N Save in the hood is hilarious. That's Kenosha for you. Following in Racine's footsteps. You think Kenosha is good? You live in White Caps area? You know nothing!!!!! Tons of rivers nearby that have very good kayak fishing for smallmouth bass (Wolf, Embarrass,Red Rivers) If your into road biking the countryside has some of the smoothest roads with hardly any traffic. Rib mountain is a nice little ski hill in Wausau. 5 hrs away is Mt. Bohemia in the UP. Appleton has a very good comedy club that every now and then has some bigger names come through. The airport (ATW) is super easy to fly out of. Tons of golf courses everywhere. Shiocton has a great rifle/pistol outdoor range that is just amazing. Oshkosh has EAA event every year if you are into aviation. Door county is not far away at all and is a slice of heaven. Devils lake state park is not too far away and is the best park in the state hands down. Just go there youll see what im talking about. Been around the world and back and Madison will always be home. Yes, the winters are cold, but compared to Denver or Berlin it's prettier to get the low glow of snow covered trees than blinding sunlight and melt or a sad quarter inch of snow with kids trying desperately to make use of a sled. It's been a wild, mild winter. But at least we have seasons.

Been a Wisconsin resident for 40+ years. I've been to some scary places in Milwaukee. The worst one that I lived at was a house on 15th and National. There was a big gang house right down the block. I remember sitting on my front steps one day and seeing 2 dudes open somebody's car and beat the crap out of the driver. Also heard gunshots on another occasion. There are certainly worse parts of the city, but that one was bad as well. The best place I lived was Appleton. The city's economy seemed to be doing really well, the schools were great, and most of the people were super nice. Would like to get a place there again sometime in the future. Also, spent a night in Antigo over 25 years ago. Me and my underage buddy managed to get into one of the local bars. Obviously the entire city isn't a crime ridden cess pool, there are cool things to see and do, actually quite a lot! What I don't like is that you can be in a safe area, but drive a few blocks over and suddenly you're in a place where you would not consider getting out of the car. Having moved to Beloit from having lived Mequon/shorewood/ripon/Oshkosh……and having travelled throughout the works, it is not anything like you have said. We’ve lived here 5 years now by choice and in 2 different areas, not once have I felt unsafe, there is soooo much to offer families in terms of things to do, places to go etc. Beloit is not dangerous, the crime is isolated much like other cities into certain areas around certain times… we are about an hour from Madison, Milwaukee and just a tad bit more to Chicago which puts us in a prime location in terms of day trips etc. but hey, as long as this rumor of Beloit stays true, we will have our beautiful city to ourselves, traffic will stay low and cost of living low as well. I do recommend coming back here and going to some of the amazing restaurants, festivals, parks and actually driving around….we have a picture perfect downtown, no empty or abandoned buildings lurking, a brand new stadium, tons of diversity which means diverse restaurants, beautiful college, trails along the river front and cool breweries within our small city. I'm someone who has lived in the Ashland area for a long time, and I don't think it's that bad honestly. It has a lot of public infrastructure like bike trails that are really nice, and the main street is very busy for a small town. There's a lot of very nice small businesses, having the lake next door is great, and it doesn't even get quite as much snow as inland cities. Drugs are definitely a real problem, but some of the crime & murder rates may just be statistical anomalies since the sample size is so small. (There was one serial arsonist a few years ago that probably drove those rates up... thankfully he's been caught now). The schools could be worse, and Elementary is probably even good, though many parents try to transfer their kids to the nearby Washburn school if they can anyhow. Maybe I'm just blindsided by the fact that I come from various towns surrounding Ashland that are even more economically depressed, though, so it always seemed like one bright spot. I would have given its place to Hurley instead. It's a tiny tiny town (1.5k people) that relies on its Michigan neighbor Ironwood for everything, except bars, which they have like 40 of (along with some other businesses you might predict to arise). It might sound like fun for some people, but for families, it's one of the worst places ever to live imo.

In the early 1900’s, Milwaukee was the leading manufacturing city. After WW2, when the production of machinery stopped and most of the remaining production work was shipped overseas, jobs declined but residents from the south still continued to move north doubling the black population in the 1970’s. As the Information Age took over, many jobs required a college education. Wisconsin, like many states in the US, have never recovered from the boom times of the 1950’s but instead is suffering from trickle up economics where profits have increasingly moved to the 1% while money isn’t reinvested in production, schools, or communities.

We lived in Brown Deer 13 years and finally got out in 2020. It really went down hill. It’s a suburb borders Milwaukee intercity. A main road gave people in Milwaukee quick access to drive up to Brown Deer. When Walmart came crime increased greatly. Also apartments in area had lots of domestic cases. So many families with lots kids moved into apartments. I couldn’t believe how many kids you’d see the buses pick up by the apartments. Neighborhoods with houses were nice. It’s very true that car theft is high. Also lots of burglaries. We were burglarized mid day in 2015. Cops are good and have small parameter to cover but just too much crime coming in. Businesses struggle to stay and schools could be better. Teachers and staff were good but kids just weren’t achieving as high. One correction I give is Brown Deer is not on Lake Michigan though it’s not far. It’s 5 miles from the lake. In my daughter yearbooks I counted how many kids in my daughters kindergarten grade were still in her grade in 5th grade. Only 1/5 of kids were still in the school system. That’s how many left (then new came in). So that’s a high turnover of families. School fights are common in older grades and lots of kids show disrespect toward the teachers.

Because it is a blue state and the state officials don't prosecute because they are too progressive. It is almost to the point that California is. They keep letting criminals go, taxing the taxpayers more and more, and now they are backed in a corner with nowhere to. Then they cry when they actually are robbed. Haha.

In 2015, I've been assaulted by two black teens on the corner of Northeast Milwaukee, Glendale and Whitefish Bay. They tried to rob me. Thankfully, the residents saw it and came out to help. The Glendale police were quick and they apprehended the guys. When they got to court, one of them the mastermind (the real criminal) was acquitted but the other guy (apprentice) was sentenced to prison for a month. My home was broken in and lots of bad trash from Chicago got dumped on us. Milwaukee police did a great job cleaning the area but it was too much. I'm not a white guy. I'm a "brown". Anyway, I left the city and I will never go back there. The place has been going down very badly. There are good people there but darkness has just invaded the place. It's just sad. Sometimes, the best thing to do is pack your bags and leave for your own good.

I grew up in Beloit and lived there until 3 years ago. There are still good people there and the downtown has truly been reborn, it is actually a destination for many people outside Beloit. The rest of the city is dangerous. Drugs, gangs and the "hood" mentality have hurt a once safe, prosperous town. There is hope though; I am seeing signs of regentrification as outsiders buy up properties, rehab them and end up with a beautiful home on a nice sized lot for far less than they would pay elsewhere. From this standpoint Beloit is ripe for the picking.

I went to Beloit College from 1986-1990. I went back in 2015. I hardly recognized the place. It was clear there were major economic improvements. The downtown, which was a ghost town, was revitalized with new buildings and lots of businesses. I think ABC had a lot to do with it and several big businesses call Beloit their the corporate headquarters.

On the other hand, there are some very nice small towns where the people are super friendly. Thats my goal, get out of Miltown and find somewhere else. There are a lot of manufacturing jobs available around the state, just not big name companies that people recognize. They are also primarily non-union, which people are quick to dismiss as not being "good paying". I go into a lot of these companies through my work, they pay well, have good benefits, and the management treats their people well. As for the crime rates in these small towns, yeah, they are high, because people in these towns report everything to the police. Minor stuff, but it pumps up the stats. As for Milwaukee, I grew up there. Was a wonderful place to live for me in the 60's and 70's. As a kid, I could ride the bus anywhere without any problems. Now, there are parts of the city you should not wander into. But every big city has the same issues as Milwaukee.

Problem is if you’re not white your not going to want to live in those small towns. The loss of high paying manufacturerimg jobs in the big cities is what’s hurting the cities. These were high paid, but low education jobs and most of those workers didn’t finish high school let alone college. Without any degree at all it’s almost impossible to find similar work. It’s the same everywhere. No jobs and people lose hope and the loss of hope just means more crime. It’s a never ending cycle.

How can you judge a place you’ve never lived in? I’ve lived in Wisconsin Rapids since 1991 and I LOVE the small town feel compared to a Big City. People move here because rent and mortgages are inexpensive. People move here because it is a Great place to raise your children. So, you have to take a Day trip to Appleton or Madison to do some mall shopping, but it’s only 1.5 hour drive to get away for the day. Drug pushers come up here from Bigger Cities, they are not born here. You should stay here for a couple days instead of making up your mind only by what you hear. We have Beautiful Parks and we don’t have the Paper Mill anymore to stink up our town.

Lifelong resident (also was a MN resident for a few years) here. Yes, Milwaukee and some of the suburbs have crime, low proverty rates etc. That comes with a lot of bigger cities. Wisconsin overall is a state with better schools and Healthcare than other states. I forget how nice people generally are, until I visit other parts of the country. Wages could be higher in quite a few places. The majority of crime is due to meth. (Not that much different than most places in the US). The winters are hard and long. Thankfully, there are plenty of people with trucks and tow straps to pull you out. Oh, and the cheese and beer I shall miss if I move somewhere warmer. ;)
