2922 update on Raleigh: lived here for 37 years. Finally retired and cannot get out fast enough. Huge amount of traffic congestion. Every forested area being developed as fast as the developers can build. Property taxes and utility rates have gone up considerably every year were have been here. Housing market now unaffordable. Houses are being grabbed up at absurd prices by people from New York and California who have the money.

Been here in the Triangle for 30 years... It is already being ruined. Cement and concrete replacing the countryside. Come on people, how many restaurants and grocery stores do you need? The traffic congestion is crazy. I see alot more Yankee "attitudes" around here now. They leave their calling card of trash by the roads now. You never saw the trash along the roads that you see now! Used to live in Morrisville. I know statistically it's good but one huge downside is you're close to the airport and it's very loud. I heard planes all day and night and had to move to north Cary to get away from it. I live in a small town in Gaston County outside of Charlotte now. I really like it, especially since there is so much hiking close by. I liked Cary but it was a little pretentious and extremely expensive. One thing they don't tell you is that the schools are great, but they are extremely competitive and my friends told me horror stories of not having a childhood because they were pushed so hard to be perfect. I like being in a more "North Carolina" like town with more down to earth country folk. I am close to Charlotte so I have all that I want but it's easy to get away. The biggest thing I miss about Cary though is diversity. Cary and Morrisville attracted people from all around the world and it was so cool get to experience different cultures.

Cary #2? Almost no one who has lived in the Triangle before 20-30 years ago would want to live in Cary. The same could be said for Apex, Holly Springs and Morrisville. Cary being the worst. All of these towns are for transplants. I like Raleigh, Wake Forest, Durham and Chapel hill though and there's plenty of transplants there too. Home prices have gone up quite a bit since this video was published. My best places in NC are many coastal and mountain towns where good jobs are scarce and probably not the best schools or home prices. Beaufort (Crystal Coast), Wilmington, Asheville, Brevard and Waynesville.
@Marcos-ll5fs3 жыл бұрын
Clayton, should be on the list. Home prices are much cheaper, schools are great, and it's less than 30 minutes to Raleigh.

I recently moved to New Bern to be closer to my son (who is in Oriental) after living for the last 34 years between Wilmington and Leland. I have to say that I LOVE NEW BERN! It has that small town feel, less traffic, the people are so friendly and it is very affordable. I live off one of the main roads and everything is so convenient. I can go two weeks on a tank of gas! If you ever decide to do the top 10 places to live on the NC Coast, you have got to include New Bern! :)

Like you, Nick, I'm a California transplant. High-tailed my self outta SoCal in 1974 and only went back to visit. Now living the retired life in NC. So, okay, the east end of NC are good places to live, but its also hot and humid in summer. Also, like California, which has Northern CA and Southern CA, we have the eastern area of NC and the western area as well. Granted, the stats for the triangle area I good, but i think you tend to overlook the Appalachian areas. There are alot of great towns this way. And we're only a few hours away from Asheville, Atlanta, and Chattanooga if you're in need of a big city fix. Plus the Temps here are about 10 degrees cooler than on the flat lands. 🙂🙃

The Triangle is nice and growing fast, but there are a handful of other good locations across the state. The Triad is pretty underrated, actually. It's similar to the Triangle but isn't growing as fast. Summerfield - A very nice suburb on the northern outskirts of Greensboro. Quiet, almost rural, and close to Lake Brandt. Clemmons - A suburb of Winston-Salem, located right off I-40. Matthews - Basically the Cary of the Charlotte area, with a fun downtown to boot. Blowing Rock - Probably the best resort town in the mountains, popular for tourists and retirees.

I live in the Triangle area, every day it’s getting more crowded and more expensive, housing costs are through the roof, acres of woods are being torn down to make room for new subdivisions, the roads are a mess thanks to no decent public transportation to RTP, I live off a two-lane road and it’s a nightmare with the traffic, especially after 4PM. These are a lot of good things about the area, but the unregulated growth is out of control. If I could afford to live in another part of the state, I would. But I live with my widowed father rent-free and have a job I like, so I’m staying. I don’t mind the growth around me, I mind the pace of it which is dizzying. I won’t recognize my neighborhood in another year or two or less. Oh, I forgot to mention the trash all over the roads, both highways and two-lane, it's disgusting.

I live in Holly Springs but I'm moving out to WIlson soon. I've lived in NC my whole life. Unfortunately the cost of living in Holly Springs and anywhere in the triangle area has absolutely skyrocketed and all the people like me who grew up in this county are getting pushed out--mostly by people moving from California and New York who have the money to buy the houses we can't afford anymore. It's extremely sad. North Carolina is my home but my heart is in Holly Springs and Raleigh as well as my family and friends. I just can't afford to live here anymore and I have to leave. It's also way too crowded now and crime is going up. It's definitely not the safest place anymore and I doubt it'll be the best place to raise a family anymore in a year or two. Overall though our state is lovely and we are very sweet people. We believe in manners and in showing kindness to our neighbors. No one is a stranger here and you can have a conversation with anyone. There are some hyper-religious communities that aren't so welcoming to those who are LGBTQ but this isn't the case in the cities especially Durham, Raleigh, and Asheville. I have a same sex partner and we were very happy together when we lived in RDU for a while. For the most part though people are very welcoming and most NC communities pride themselves in being warm and polite. Someone will always stop to help you if you break down on the side of the road.
