It is so cool that you guys are reacting to By-Tor...and I love Fly by Night too. I definitely do recommend that you two listen to the live version of By-Tor...in particular the version from All the World's a Stage, Rush's first double live album. The extended jam on that version of By-Tor will 100% guaranteed blow your minds. Personally, I think that side 3 of ATWAS is the best live album side Rush ever recorded, and may be one of the most amazing live album segments ever etched into a vinyl surface. With By-Tor followed by In the End, the music on that album side is just incomparable. ✌💯😎

By-Tor is one of their early masterpieces. It was always a show-stopping heavy jam when they did it live. It's amazing to think Alex and Geddy were only 21, and Neil only 22, when they recorded this. It's SO creative and progressive. Now you should do the "sequel" to By-Tor, which is "The Necromancer" off of Caress of Steel. :)
@permanentwaves46212 жыл бұрын
I scrolled through the comments and I dont think anyone has mentioned this....This song was written about 2 dogs, a German Shepard and a small white dog that belonged to their manager, Howard Ungerleider. The shepard would always bight people- they called him "By-Tor" for a nickname. Since the other dog was white, they called him Snowdog. And of course Peart put his sci-fi,-spiritual,-epic story telling touch into it, and it became what it is. True story.

His remarkable ability to infuse his playing with profound emotion and soul places him among the greatest guitarists of all time. Love that you have come back to Rush! Check out the live version of Bytor and the Snow Dog from their R30 tour. Alex is the Snow Dog and Geddy is Bytor. They are having a "battle" on stage. It is pretty funny. Alex as usual is hilarious. Fly by Night is their 2nd album and it is a transitional one. Fly by Night is more the basic rock song whereas Bytor and the Snow Dog is more Prog and the direction they were heading. I don't know if you noticed but when you did Battlescar Kim Mitchell from Max Webster replied to you. Love the Marathon idea. I am not sure if you have done any of the Clockwork Angels album. I don't believe so. Caravan from the Time Machine Tour live in Cleveland is a banger and is from that album.

Since you guys like steely dan so much you might like 80s rush. I dont want to imply that 80s rush sounds like the dan, but they did mature as song writers by then, and included more layered sounds and better production. A lot of rush fans are attached to their 70s guitar driven prog stuff but i love their 80s gems just as much. Songs like New World Man, Distant Early Warning, Marathon, Mission, Mystic Rhythms, Dreamline, subdivisions, Red Sector A. So much good stuff
@craiger991gm2 жыл бұрын
I would add another vote for Red Sector A. It is an important song about how humans treat other humans. It is inspired by Geddy's parent's experiences in prison camps during the Holocaust. Lyrics like "For my father and my brother it's too late, but I must help my mother stand up straight" hit pretty hard.
@TheReaperMan2752 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more, Dan. My favorite Rush era is from _Signals_ to _Hold Your Fire._ They became a lot more accomplished as songwriters and the keyboards gave them a full wall of sound. Geddy was immensely talented to be able to sing, play outstanding bass and synths (sometimes all at once!).

If you guys are too tired some days after work don’t worry, I think most of us here will be patiently waiting and will be excited whenever a new video comes out. As for what to check out next from Rush, I think you should do another epic.
