Now that I didn't know. I thought he was Maiden's roadie and took over after they kicked Burr out for getting drunk on stage.

@@aarthoor Burr was fired after the tour. They contacted Nicko, who used to play with the French band Trust. They supported Maiden during The Beast on the Road. Burr replaced Nicko in Trust.

@@TheEternalWayfarer Good lord, totally different to the story I heard! I read that Burr left the tour to see organise his Dads funeral and they used Nicko (who I thought was the roadie) and decided they prefered him. Oh well. both excellent drummers in their own way I always thought.

I love that he's never changed. You watch him with Pat Travers around '77 and he was smiling and singing away to his own drums way back then. If/when (I know, sad to think) he has to quit Maiden or they just pack it in, he will be drawn back to funk without a doubt and will be a very sought after musician!

I loved those early PT albums. Hard rock infused with jazzy, funky breaks. Nicko was in his element; that band was tight.

There are not a lot of metal/hard rock drummers who have as much ease as Nicko playing all sorts of genres. Before the huge success with Maiden he was a sought-after session drummer. His role with Pat Travers really shaped his musical approach and style. Amazing drummer who probably has the fastest right foot in history! Plus, he always looks maximum happy behind the kit.
