I feel like Nexo Knights could've lasted longer if they'd pulled more directly from the King Arthur mythos, like this theme does from Journey to the West. It could've still had the techno influence, but even just calling the character and locations by recognizable names could've gotten more people into the theme. I mean, most kids, even if they've never read any King Arthur stories proper, know the gist, Knights of the Round Table Merlin, Camelot, Morgan, etc.

They’ve stated that all of their named unlicensed themes last only about 3 years on purpose. Ninjago was the big name that broke that trend because of the uproar after it was announced that the final battle was gonna be the end of the Ninjago theme, people were so mad that LEGO decided to make it permanent. I personally felt that was a bad idea, especially after the movie came out, but honestly the only bad season after the movie was season 11. That thing is a literal Garbage bin IMO. The rest of the new seasons I found better than expected, especially seasons 9 and 12!!

Seriously, I love journey to the west (even if I know very little about it) and I love it when people base stories and ideas around this ancient story. So I did the big mistake about showing your channel to my son and he watched this.. I thought I had bought enough Lego City Space sets apparently I need to go find more Lego Ninjago sets I sarcastically say thank you but you have given my son inspiration so I truly say thank you

No prob. I just wanted to throw this line some sunshine back in 2020… it didn’t seem the line was gonna do that well and I wanted to push LEGO to make fewer movie lines and more things in this vein, and hopefully get more Americans interested in the timeless novel that inspired it all.

Agreed fueling imagination making for happy children. And between me and you and anybody that reads this post, gives me a reason to let my inner nine-year-old out🤣🤪😂!

I love hearing about tangential learning through games and toys.I hear from a lot of people that these things don't have any redeeming value, both when I was a child and now as an adult. It's things like this that I point to as a counter example. Thank you for sharing both the line and how it led you towards the Journey to the West Although, I do have mixed feelings about you bringing this to my attention. Mainly because I *want* these, and I'm in no position to acquire them. Mainly because I lack a place to put them. ...Maybe I'll pick up the food truck. I like food trucks.

I always loved LEGO original themes when I was little and so cool to see a new one.

Not quite. I made a few reviews in this style for Bionicle G2 way back, and Monkie Kid was just special enough to get the same treatment.

As much as I get that ninjago is still at least sort of popular (don't really know now, haven't looked at it in years), I feel it should be given a rest. The line's been around since I was in elementary school. I can still dig out a couple of the original set instructions. I probably won't get most of the monkie kid sets, but it's refreshing to see something that isn't just ninjago or star wars. There have been times where those two lines were the only things that came to mind when I thought of lego.

I haven't been this excited for Lego anything in years. Not even Bionicle G2 had me this hyped. And I absolutely intend on getting some of these sets. It'll take a few paychecks sure, but I don't mind. I am just over the moon with how great these sets are, and the amazing inspiration behind them.

I haven't had this much fun watching a review in a long time. Thank you Nick and thank you for so much written insight for the relation to Journey to the West. I'm actually much more interested in these sets now than I've seen elsewhere.

The only places to get these LEGO Monkie Kid sets in the United States: * The LEGO Shop at Home website * LEGO Stores located in shopping malls * LEGO Stores located in LEGOLAND Parks or LEGOLAND Discovery Centers

Monkie kid is so fresh, so new. It has so much potential and the sets are really well made. And we finally get more original themes, this being one. The Monkey king warrior mech is now one of my favorite Lego sets of all time, it’s beautiful. I love this theme. I am hopeful and certain it will only get better.

Firstly, SOMEBODY TELL GAIJIN GOOMBAH AND OSP ABOUT THIS LINE. Secondly, I find it kind of funny how Red Son’s Inferno Truck has cannons that point towards himself. Almost like he unintentionally did that, not accounting for pointing the guns forward. Thirdly, this line looks amazing and I cannot wait to see more of it.
