I feel like Nexo Knights could've lasted longer if they'd pulled more directly from the King Arthur mythos, like this theme does from Journey to the West. It could've still had the techno influence, but even just calling the character and locations by recognizable names could've gotten more people into the theme. I mean, most kids, even if they've never read any King Arthur stories proper, know the gist, Knights of the Round Table Merlin, Camelot, Morgan, etc.

Also, if they used actual medieval colors like “black and yellow” checkered patterns and such instead of that hideous “blue, darker blue and some more blue”, even further, how cool would it be if they based the mechs off medieval coats of arms? (For example a two-headed eagle or something)

They’ve stated that all of their named unlicensed themes last only about 3 years on purpose. Ninjago was the big name that broke that trend because of the uproar after it was announced that the final battle was gonna be the end of the Ninjago theme, people were so mad that LEGO decided to make it permanent. I personally felt that was a bad idea, especially after the movie came out, but honestly the only bad season after the movie was season 11. That thing is a literal Garbage bin IMO. The rest of the new seasons I found better than expected, especially seasons 9 and 12!!

A new non licensed lego theme ONLY available in China, online, or at 5 stores.... yup...must have been the same marketing team behind Bionicle G2's marketing. Seriously, I love journey to the west (even if I know very little about it) and I love it when people base stories and ideas around this ancient story. I hope Lego can find a way to introduce this set to us in the west without turning it into yet another Ninjago. As much as I love the sets in aninjago, I am tired of owning yet ANOTHER Chole, Zander, And whoever the rest of them are (seriously I'm tired of having the same red blue green and robot ninja in a set.)

I'm one of those people who are interested in the theme but don't have the money to buy it. But I love it so much. It's a new aesthetic (even counting Ninjago), with interesting pieces/colours (that gold is gorgeous) and its connection to "Journey to the west" makes me think about all the possibilities for new lines. It sort of harkens back to your comment about (castle) themes based on other mythologies.

I know about Journey to The West, but instead my brain went "Mmmm yes, Dragon Ball" as opposed the thing that inspired it. Looking at it now I'm like "Oh this is all super unique and cool" and I realize that I am part of the problem. I so much prefer that 2D style over all these 3D animated shows lego has done, where they try to replicate the minifigures but then bend their knees and arms, so jarring ! Now that it is in 2D, the bent knees and arms look more natural, more of a stylistic choice than a trahison of the minifigure as a tangible object. In my country, the Monkey Kong TV Show created like 10-20 years ago in Chinese being broadcast every years since i'm a child. So Journey to The West is basically my childhood. Also, the theme being used in Episode 1 of Monkey Kid when Wu Kong appeared is the remix of the original Wukong theme in that's show too.

Wonderful video! It's fast paced, but you take enough time to show and tell all the most important things. It's wonderfully filmed, feeling like a TV commercial at times, which is cool! Keep up the great work!

So refreshing to get a mega review. Only critique. Quick cuts. Again it a mega review so I can look past it it's like smooshing a really big sandwich . A departure from the lego rewind I guess which is now over for the time being. Happy to get another video and cant wait for what come next no matter the topic

Fantastic overview of the theme. Great job Nick! Definitely worth the wait. Your review made me appreciate this theme more than any other reviewer could have. You gushing over the Monkey Kid Mech has convinced me to buy it. Side note: I like how you actually showed and filmed the sets in person instead of doing a boring bass Microsoft PowerPoint style “””video””” where you just show the promotional pictures of the sets taken by LEGO on screen and just talk over them. I appreciate the extra work and the many details you put into this video. Top notch stuff.

Thanks for making this video man! You are the person who's Lego opinions and perspectives I trust the most so when I saw the leaks for this theme my first thought was "I wonder what Nick is gonna think of this... Probably love it for it's originality!" Glad you could get your thoughts out there!

I saw clips of the animations and I thought it looked neat, and after that I didn’t give the theme much thought. But seeing the sets and figures just wowed me, and I’m honestly tempted to pick up some of these sets online.

This one is probably one of the best reviews of a complete wave of LEGO sets I’ve ever seen. I had zero interest in Monkie Kid when it was announced and this is the first video I’ve watched from beginning to end about it. You held my interest the entire time. Love your passion for detail and how you went and learned about journey to the west before this came out. Such an informative and entertaining review of these items. I appreciate LEGO trying new things and doing them well. Gives me hope for other things

Red Sun for the best boi RED BOI And as much as I love to leave long comments praising creators for their great work on making detailed analyses and getting people to be excited for a new thing I'm excited for too...I honestly think this video speaks for itself. Thank you Nick for being so excited about Monkie Kid, and getting everyone else to be so excited for it too. I really, REALLY want this line to succeed, all because of how amazing the tv show is, and I am both unsurprised but glad that the toys are just as amazing as well. I really hope this will be something LEGO can keep up for more years to come, and if it does, I'll have your video to thank for introducing all my friends to it.

@@NickonPlanetRipple nah, I mean it in a positive way, the camera movements, showing the playfeatures and moving the minifigs arround with translucents parts, it's all really lively and fun to watch. Also the posing of the figures was great, you put a lot of effort into the video and it shows 👌 great job, hope to see more Lego content from you in the future

No prob. I just wanted to throw this line some sunshine back in 2020… it didn’t seem the line was gonna do that well and I wanted to push LEGO to make fewer movie lines and more things in this vein, and hopefully get more Americans interested in the timeless novel that inspired it all.

I love hearing about tangential learning through games and toys.I hear from a lot of people that these things don't have any redeeming value, both when I was a child and now as an adult. It's things like this that I point to as a counter example. Thank you for sharing both the line and how it led you towards the Journey to the West Although, I do have mixed feelings about you bringing this to my attention. Mainly because I *want* these, and I'm in no position to acquire them. Mainly because I lack a place to put them. ...Maybe I'll pick up the food truck. I like food trucks.

As much as I get that ninjago is still at least sort of popular (don't really know now, haven't looked at it in years), I feel it should be given a rest. The line's been around since I was in elementary school. I can still dig out a couple of the original set instructions. I probably won't get most of the monkie kid sets, but it's refreshing to see something that isn't just ninjago or star wars. There have been times where those two lines were the only things that came to mind when I thought of lego.

I haven't been this excited for Lego anything in years. Not even Bionicle G2 had me this hyped. And I absolutely intend on getting some of these sets. It'll take a few paychecks sure, but I don't mind. I am just over the moon with how great these sets are, and the amazing inspiration behind them.

Monkie kid is so fresh, so new. It has so much potential and the sets are really well made. And we finally get more original themes, this being one. The Monkey king warrior mech is now one of my favorite Lego sets of all time, it’s beautiful. I love this theme. I am hopeful and certain it will only get better.

Firstly, SOMEBODY TELL GAIJIN GOOMBAH AND OSP ABOUT THIS LINE. Secondly, I find it kind of funny how Red Son’s Inferno Truck has cannons that point towards himself. Almost like he unintentionally did that, not accounting for pointing the guns forward. Thirdly, this line looks amazing and I cannot wait to see more of it.
