That’s actually one of his Sonor kits from the 80’s touring years. It’s only a small portion of the overall kit. REALLY amazing sounding drums and I’m very happy he’s back with Sonor. You are right though; he could make even a garbage drum kit sound amazing. Nicko is a genius.

Chris Messer actually the snare is from the 7son tour kit. The rest of the drums are Sonor performers Which were their mid level 80s kits. Made of Beachwood like the high-end ones just thinner Awesome kits, you can still find them on line pretty inexpensive. This was just a rehearsal kit....but sounds great.

NickosRightFoot: actually that makes sense in hindsight. The shells and rims on the toms and bass drum did seem different than the signature lites. You’re absolutely right still amazing sound. I use to have a SonorLite kit in the late 80’s through late 90’s. I miss that kit. I definitely agree sound at the of the day come from the player, but I’m sure you’d agree Sonor has an essence that seeps through beautifully. I was so happy to find out he’s back with Sonor. His recent kit he’s touring with sounds amazing in conjunction with the way he plays. He’s the best drummer in hard rock/rock in my opinion and at the same time I believe underrated. I think many kids don’t comprehend how skilled and musical he is. He’s a genius. I love how he applies different types of flams within his playing. I could go on for hours. He’s been a huge influence on playing far back as with Pat Travers. Thanks for the insight.

@Wayne. I agree with you. Nicko is brilliant. I challenge pretty much any drummer to play that tune and sound any bit close. His control, dynamics and technique is of a master. Nicko was playing circles around most drummer back when he was with Pat Travers long before Maiden.

DUDE!! I have wondered that...like, FOREVER! I have been playing drums for 30 years and have had some similar set-ups to Nicko over the years. That said, I also like my ride in that position, but I DO NOT put it that close to the toms. That is INSANE how he never seems to get tripped up while moving around the kit. :) That's just Nicko, I guess! :D

in late 80s I drummed in a Death Metal band and sang with the songs to keep crazy time changes solid when playing live. Also, some small clubs had bad PA systems and I couldn't hear the guitars, so I sang them.
