My favourite fill as well, portnoy is a genius

There are alot of great drummers with great technical skills. But what makes Portnoy stand above them is the human "swing" elemant that makes all these very technical pieces breathe and come to live. He knows what we wanna hear and executes it perfectly!

You've just put into words what I couldn't explain. This is what always made it difficult for me to enjoy Mangini's replacement. Mangini's skills are absolutely out of this world, but he plays like a robot. Perfectly, too clean, no "swing" as you put it.

Mike being back to Dream Theater just finished the song Octavarium. Do a world tour with Octavarium, and just retire. Make the full story of it.

Mike wrote all the set lists back in the day. Also lots of lyrics, and does back up vocals while playing live. He is an absolute power house of rock!

@ you’re working on tough music, which rocks! Keep going. Have you tried charting the song out and following along to “sheet music”? You can simplify it if you cannot read music. I see many high level drummers doing this too.

Portnoy was actually 38 when Octavarium was released. When he was 30, the band released Falling Into Infinity. So, you still have time (if I understand the meaning of the clown face correctly, that is) 🙌🏻
