Thank you Nick, the sansevieria is one of my favorite plants of all time. My mother has a snake plant that is about 30 years old . FYI... 'Moonlight' is an incorrect name that somehow made its way into the market, in some cases, in place of the real name, 'Moonshine'. So, although it's oftentimes seen labeled as 'Moonlight', the correct, original cultivar name is 'Moonshine'. I agree, though, that it's a beautiful plant. I've had mine for around 10 years and I can't tell you how many times I've taken offset cuttings for people. BTW, cuttings started from leaves or portions of a leaf grow plantlets that revert to the non-sport appearance but, with time, regain the defining characteristic coloration. Best wishes with your plant(s)!!!

Right now the sansevieria is about 3 feet tall (the plant itself) and is growing in a big pot. It actually bloomed once, a long stem with small white flowers. I absolutely love the variation of Sanseverias! I am still on the hunt for the Starfish Cylindrica. Such a beauty! I have a Whale Fish that I absolutely love! Two years ago I purchased the Bantel Sensation which is a beauty. However, I think I repotted prematurely and as a result have overwatered. Many fronds have died back over the winter and I have reduced the amount of watering to every two weeks. Also, I have her approximately 5ft from the window. No new growth yet. ...should I begin fertilizing? .. Absolutely love your channel! ❤

I never realized that I was growing a collection of snake plants until recently. They're all pretty new and they do very well with my cacti, gasterias, and other chubby dubby plants. Most of mine are rescues including the first - a cylindrica. It was braided and had all that gross glued gravel on top. I dismantled the whole thing and now it's Plant Gone Wild. I have two that are nearly black and I loooovvvve black plants. I'm not really sure exactly what they are, but one just came to live here today. I nearly did a dance in Home Depot when I saw it. I thought it was a Whitney, but the edges are yellow with the zig-zags and I'm not sure. I adore my Boncel, another rescue. Someone broke the main root and the store let me buy it at 75% off. It's being held in place by large river stones and I'm sure it's rooting. It can now stand upright if I remove one or both of the supports. Then, there's the Hahniis. I have the first one you showed and a little black number. Just stunning. I have two sweet, normal looking snakes, too. I can't decide which of them is my favorite. I want a Masonia, but they're so rare and overpriced that it will have to wait a while.

Ohhh.. I hear you...😊 If I start talking aboutbmy Sansevierias - noone can stop me. I went yesterday to my local nursery and engaged all people working there in one hour talk about Sansevierias.. And I would still loved to talk more.. We have one shop here - a type of house items, building materials and some gardening things and plants.. They have a discounted section and I buy some of my plants there and then revive hem - it is so rewarding - a huge pleas8e seeing them growing properly later.. 😊🤷♂️🍃
@deaconsmom20003 жыл бұрын
@@elenagorba9096 I think most of my Hahnii are from the discount section. I acquired a few more this winter. One that was full price is a Hahnii and it's almost completely yellow with a slim green edge and the small stripe of green down the center. I don't know what it is, but it's a showstopper. Of course, it doesn't grow, but that's life with heavy variegation. I'm sorry I missed your comment.

I love the image of grabbing your Samurai to fight off a burglar. This is one of those plants that living in Florida killed for me. They're just used as hedges and get weedy and lanky and unattractive outside. I might try some of the newer varieties though they're getting more interesting and I think the heights are better, sort of a sweet spot where they're not the little birdsnests but they're not the big langky things that fall over. I'm glad growers are revisiting this plant.

I have a moonshine and kept it about 7' away from a south window. It darkened quite a bit, so I've since moved it to a west facing window that gets a lot of light that bounces back from a white wall outside. I was gifted a snake because the guy was moving his office, it's so tall and great but...it's ina vase with water!! Should I put the plant in soil or leave it in water? The man has been in his office for 15 years.
@karmaarachnid83454 жыл бұрын
I wonder what Nick's opinion on this is. Personally I've had a very low success rate when moving established plants directly from water to soil. Gradually adding compost to the water for several weeks first seems to make the transition less stressful but it's no guarantee. If it's a big plant I'd consider taking some leaf cuttings and trying to propagate those first just in case. Of course if your plant is variegated know that the plants you grow from cuttings won't be. If it's doing well in water I'd also consider leaving it there. Just be careful to change the water regularly to avoid mineral build-up or always only give it distilled or rain water. Good luck.
@dchardinaycole59444 жыл бұрын
@@karmaarachnid8345 WOW. this is a great response and thorough thank you! I think so too I think I should leave it. I'm going to get a new vase with distilled water.
@karmaarachnid83454 жыл бұрын
@@dchardinaycole5944 If I may add one other small piece of advice then: A plant living in water may survive for years, but it won't grow unless you give it some source of nutrients that it would otherwise get from soil. My favorite way to feed such a plant is to grow it in dirty water taken from a freshwater aquarium. When I don't have access to aquarium water I will use any water soluble plant food, but it is very important to never give it too much or the roots will burn and the plant will die. Always error on the side of giving it less. A few granules of orchid fertilizer once in a while seems to keep my plants in water growing.
