hi Nick! first time checking out your vids here :) i just wanted to say thank you so so so much for being so clear, explanation, and articulate. i purchased my first hoya and have been digging through youtube/reddit/google for hoursSS in search of some hoya info, specifically on propagating. this is by far the best video i’ve seen all day!!
@melissaking34813 жыл бұрын
This is great Thanks, Nick. I have just fallen down the rabbit hole with hoya and in 2 months went from 1 to 15. LOL (full steam Hoya ahead) LOL So instead of buying more. I can now propagate and 'plant them forward' to my friends and share my love for a different species of plant. Have a great weekend.

I find the best method for me is in sphagnum moss into a closed terrarium tank over a heat mat. This replicates the heat, humidity, moisture of the wild. Works well for me as some are more unknown on the market.

Thanks for sharing Nick. Will this still work if the node/stem doesn't have any leaves? I have a variegated Hoya, and the leaves were all white and fell off. I'd like to bring it back to life.
@jamiehou94483 жыл бұрын
Hi! In theory that could work, but in practice its a lot less successful. It is because, there's no leaves to photosynthesize, so the plant is 100% reliant on the stem to photosynthesize and produce energy for growth which, isn't a lot of energy so you're going to really have to baby that plant.
@jackienagy30383 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t hurt to try. I’ve successfully rooted leafless stems on carnosa. Saw a video on KZbin of a woman who said she never throws stems away so I tried and they all worked.

I almost always get roots all over the internode, I also only use water with no leca. And I always put a cutting of transdescantia in with them to make them root faster.
@beyogawellwithgina486111 ай бұрын
Interesting about adding the tradescantia. Do you recall where you learned that and why it helps??
@lokirathehunter11 ай бұрын
@@beyogawellwithgina4861 tradescantia produces a lot of rooting hormone, so if you pop one of those in with your other plants, that rooting hormone ends up in the water. I don't know if that's exactly what happens but they always seem to root faster with the tradescantia
@lisabarnes53402 ай бұрын
I've heard this works using pothos. Pothos root so quickly, it's thought is that their rooting releases a chemical in the water that stimulates the rooting of the desired plant.@beyogawellwithgina4861

What kind of soil do you use for potting Hoyas ?
@thewittyusername3 жыл бұрын
Any reason why you don't trim the lower leaves? I'd think that would make it harder to keep the node submerged. I've also noticed most (all?) of my hoya have adventitious roots along the internodes (similar to a epiprimnum) that might be helpful to point out as far as where you make your cuts. It looks like the roots are coming out of the internode and not the node itself on yours to back this up. Maybe that happened because your nodes were not submerged because of the leaves? Just a few things I noticed that might be confusing to someone new to propagating plants. I prefer the rooting hormone straight into soil method myself but to each their own 😁
@selina43263 жыл бұрын
In my experience the node doesn't need to be submerged. The roots grow on the internode and the new growth comes from the node ☺️ so personally I think it's best to keep the internode submerged but not the node itself. This works the best for me 🌿
