One reason you don't have Marion in this movie is Temple of Doom is a prequel (set one year before Raiders of the Lost Ark). Since they had already established that Indy and Marion hadn't seen each other in about ten years, it would have been a contradiction to have her in Temple of Doom.

Back when storytellers cared about canon
@d.t.nelson88052 жыл бұрын
@@johnbabylon7626 People care about canon now, but it really isn't as important as some make it out to be. Sometime people call something canon that really isn't. It also restricts creativity. As an author, myself, I learned long ago that every story is told from a particular viewpoint of one or more character(s) who view events in a particular light. Someone else telling the same story might focus on different people or events. As Obi Wan says in Return of the Jedi "You're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." The events relayed by one character may be completely unreliable. Deception, Faulty memory, or simply a narrow focus by the character can "change canon". So, canon is only canon from one point of view. From another's viewpoint, canon is completely different. That's why whenever I hear someone talking about what is and isn't canon, and gets all bent out of shape with ever small deviation, I tend to sigh deeply and roll my eyes. I say, just enjoy the story.

The PG-13 rating was created because of this movie, specifically because of the human sacrifice scene. The MPAA figured it was obviously way too intense to let it through with a PG rating, but the movie as a whole didn't seem to justify an R rating either, so they invented PG-13. So fun fact the Indiana Jones ride was originally meant to be way bigger. The way imagineers work is they are told “imagine no budget do whatever you want” and then they make something amazing. Then it’s whittled down to the core of what it has to be by the ultimate budget. For Indiana Jones the ride was originally gonging to be 3 in one, where the main ride we know and love would still be there with the jeep, but there would be a second ride that goes around it as a roller coaster mine cart ride. The third was supposed to be an update to the Jungle Cruise where they wanted the boats to be able to enter the main temple for a bit to see the chaos in the temple. It was a really cool concept with some amazing Art that they made for what it would have looked like.

2:43 - It's 1935. It's NEW Hollywood here. On a separate note, a lot of people blame George Lucas' divorce for the way this movie turned out. They say the bad life situation affected how he approached this movie and that's why they say it's worse than the other movies. Personally, I don't know what they're talking about. I love this movie (except for one big, annoying, BLOND thing). 8:44 - Easy to miss cameo right here. 'R. Webber,' the guy who booked the plane for Indy, is played by Dan Ackroyd. 13:57 - Keep in mind that this adventure takes place the year BEFORE Raiders, so Indy hasn't had his first big brush with the supernatural yet (unless you believe some of the Young Indiana Jones books). 14:20 - You're jumping the gun here. The fire wasn't supernatural: it was a distraction so that the Thugee could steal the Stone and abduct the village children. It's only once the Stone was taken that supernatural plagues began to strike the village. 17:56 - Ophidiophobia. 28:40 - Then you weren't paying attention earlier when Indy talked about the Shankara Stones. 34:28 - There's a scene in the working script that I don't think was shot where Shorty sees a guard get burned and the other guards drag him away when he begins to come to his senses. That was supposed to explain how Short Round knew that the pain of being burned would break the curse of the Blood of Kali. 39:30 - It's ALL Practical. CGI wasn't a thing yet except in the most BASIC way, and that was still far more expensive than other effects. 46:03 - Key Hyu Kwan, the actor who played Short Round, has had a modest career in Hollywood, only being in around 15 productions over the last 40 years. His two big stand-out rolls were here, which was his debut roll, and a year or so later where he played Data in Stephen Spielberg's The Goonies (a MUST WATCH for any reactor). However, he recently had a big break when he was one of the main players in a fantastic 2022 movie, Everything Everywhere, All At Once.

Believe it or not, the raft as parachute scene is actually more than plausible. The Mythbusters recreated it (with dummies), and then had to figure out why it worked. It's much the way squirrels and cats can fall from any or all heights with the same effects every time. They spread out with a lot of wind resistance so they reach a fairly low terminal velocity almost right away. They land and have enough cushion in their legs to run away, usually with nothing more than getting the wind knocked from them. It only depends on them not flipping over in a crosswind or a rocking motion that gets out of control. Same for the raft. As long as the weight was evenly concentrated toward the center, it landed with minimal velocity, easily survivable. Funny that it looks so phony, because it looks stupid as hell.

I can't really decide which one is my favorite Indy movie. All 3 a great in their own way. I guess it depends on my mood. Sometimes I prefer Raiders,then the next day I would choose Temple or Last Crusade! The whole Triology is one of my alltime favorites!
@RottedPopcornandHorror19662 жыл бұрын
Disturbing or Hilarious? Both. First the kid's name is actually 'Short round'. Secondly not everyone has the power to pull people's heart out hahaha. This was a prequel, not a sequel. I'm glad you got Willie's character. She was meant to be over the top". And to answer your question, do bats fly during the day? Yes some bats do fly during the day, but most like to go out during late afternoon and evening to forage and hunt. But Vampire bats sleep during the day. So the bats you saw wouldn't be Vampire bats. The bats you see in this film are giant fruit bats. Thanx for your reaction, take care".xx

I’m also pretty sure the writing duo were a little inspired by Hammer Studio’s The Stranglers of Bombay.

Not a fan of the middle act but I enjoy the scenes in Shanghai and everything from when Short Round frees Indy to the very end.

This is my favorite one out of all of them. The main reason I loved it is because of shorty!

Yes I liked it a lot ... Most people complained about Willie but I wonder how many wouldn't feel the same as her if they were put in the same situation, not everyone is a hero.

Probably most people's least favorite of the original 3 for sure, but definitely has its moments. I actually preferred this to the original when I was younger. I guess I'm attracted to darker things. Great reaction as ever, I'm sure.😁 Can't wait to see you get to The Last Crusade, which is THE best Indiana Jones movie, imo. Cheers!!!

1. Many folks don't care for this one very much, but I do.👌 2. Just a small suspension of belief regarding the lifeboat drop out of the plane🙄 3. When I was in the US Navy I got to eat monkey (but not monkey brains) and dog in the Philippines. 4. Shortround is "Billy Badass"🤬😎 5. Disneyland already has a "Raiders of the Lost Ark" so another one of the ride through the tunnel/mine would be cool too. 6. Kate Capshaw got the Willie gig because she was dating and later became Spielberg's wife. You took some of the words out of my mouth👌

This movie is a prequel to Raiders and it use to be my favorite as a kid as I got older though I switch between Raiders & The Last Crusade being my favorite. I always loved Short Round and his dynamic with Indy, very cool character. I do see some issues now and things even Steven Spielberg regrets like going too far with the gross out dinner scene as it may be seen as offensive and disrespectful of other cultures as the foods were completely exaggerated for comedic effect, I don't think there was any ill intent at the time maybe just looking back it probably wasn't the best decision. I never liked Willie, sorry lol. I tried but they made her way too obnoxious. I think if they just toned it down, dialed it back a bit take her from operating at a 11 to more like an 8 it wouldn't be as grating. Also, either a bit more useful or a bit more interesting personality wise would have helped.

I really enjoyed your reaction. And the film. It is lots of fun, albeit with some pretty dark moments too. Maybe that combination puts some people off. I think Raiders of the Lost Ark is pretty flawless. This one can't match it but it's still pretty damn good imo. Btw, Spielberg ended up marrying Willie (Kate Capshaw). Also, she told Spielberg that Willie screamed too much and was irritating. Final point - this was set BEFORE Raiders. And it's Marion, not Mirian lol.

I think the reason a lot of people didn’t like the movie because it was more violent than the first one. It was actually the movie that caused the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating. Also Willie’s constant screaming. But I love it. I love all the Indiana Jones movies. My late dad and I went to see the first 3 in theaters. It’s one of my best memories with my dad

The reason why Temple of Doom is considered the weakest of the franchise is because… …no one considers Kingdom of the Crystal Skull part of the franchise

Hey Nick, hope all is good with you! I was excited to see this when it came out but there were a few areas I didn't like much. I especially hated the super gross banquet scene. I had to keep looking down when the faux food was served. There's no way I could've been in that scene, I'd have thrown up. 🤢🤢 Kate's character, was totally annoying, which I know she was supposed to be but she made most ppl want to tape her mouth shut. Just a side note, after this movie had come out I remember a Life magazine featuring HF and Kate Capshaw, and inside had a sole interview with her and there was a nice pic of KC- her Mom-- and her daughter, 3 generations. Funny thing is Kate later married S. Spielberg and Kate's daughter also became an actress, Jessica Capshaw. She is I think best known from her years on- Grey's Anatomy. And she looks very much like her Mom lol. Onward, I think most ppl liked- Short Round, I think it was his first roll at the time. I actually saw him on Jimmy Kimmel's show about 6 weeks ago. He has a special fondness he said for HF and SS. About the bats, they are like a giant fruit bat, which in the face looks like a Fox. So most call them 'Flying Foxes'. Being as I hate many types of bugs, I hated the tunnel with them. Yuuuuck!! Overall this movie is eh fairly good, the 3rd is better.

This was the only Indiana Jones movie I saw until I was probably 19. So, for what it's worth, it's my favorite. Don't care what anyone says. It always had more of a sense of fun for me, and sorry to the haters, Short Round is a goat.
