This movie was so often quoted during the Depp/Heard trial by people who watched it. Lawyer objecting to his own question, and such. But mostly the "Objection you honor! Because it's devastating to my case!" lol. This is truly a Jim Carrey favorite of mine. loved your reactions and I have to say your laughter is pretty contagious, so when you laugh I have to laugh too 😄

Yes, car phones back in the day were connected to a base or the phone plugged directly into the AC Adapter. My Dad had one in his truck when they first came out. Before the 1950's, TVs emitted low levels of radiation so sitting too close could potentially harm you.

Such a great movie! Love it! Jim Carrey rules. This was when Jim Carrey balanced out his craziness a bit and started to use his real acting skills. So many great movies from him from this time. This is a sweet, funny comedy that you can watch again and again. They don't make movies like this anymore.

The thing I so respect about this movie is Jerry. Yes, he's a goober, but he NEVER downplays Fletcher to Max (only privately when talking to his girlfriend, his ex wife, which is fair), and at the end, he not only understands and accepts that they won't go to Boston with him, but he's HAPPY and delighted that Max is so happy. Stepfathers rarely get that kind of positive depiction in movies and t.v. and it's a really sweet diamond in the rough.

LegalEagle looked at this movie. In his professional opinion, Reede's statement of Samantha being a minor at marriage nullifying the pre-nup wouldn't work because, under California's laws, her minor status would've nullified the whole marriage, and she STILL wouldn't have gotten anything.
@pamelawilliams3144
@pamelawilliams3144 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that always bothered me. Also Why would the husband get in trouble when she's the one that lied and changed her birth certificate.
@Logan_Baron
@Logan_Baron Жыл бұрын
@@pamelawilliams3144 Well the idea isn't that he got in trouble because she's the one that lied, but that any contract (which is what a pre nup is) would not be valid if signed by a minor. So it makes sense. Except that it would actually invalidate the whole marriage. Now with them being together so long even with the original marriage invalidated, I'd imagine a lawyer could argue common law marriage, but I don't think California considers common law marriage.
@joshualandry3160
@joshualandry3160 Жыл бұрын
And that is why you shouldn't listen to him. Even if the marriage wasn't valid for some reason they lived together so it would be a common law marriage. She actually had a window to challenge the contract and then it would be presumed valid under California law. 12 months if I recall.

This was one of the hardest-laughing movie theater crowds I was ever a part of. After his breakout year of 1994 (Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber) Carrey did Cable Guy in 1996, a movie which, while beloved by some, left many fans unsatisfied bc it was a slower, darker film. Liar Liar (1997) marked Carrey’s return to the over-the-top hilarity that everyone had been craving and you could feel that in the theater. Blew the roof off the place.

Director Tom Shadyac said in the audio commentary for the movie that the loud crack you hear at the end when Jim’s head hits on the floor in the bathroom when he beats himself up is absolutely real. On the movie Me, Myself & Irene he did a physical stunt himself that should’ve been done by his stunt double. In one scene in the movie Yes Man, the scene called for him to walk into a waitress at a bar and fall on his back. He fell back harder than he thought and it cost him three broken ribs. That’s how dedicated he was to his physical comedy.

Agreed, also has to do ace Ventura when nature calls. I love the monopoly guy scene. Cracks me up everytime I see it. It's really too bad Jim Carrey's retired from anymore movies. He said as much unless a script comes down from the gods that he can't refuse. Which who knows what that exactly means. I think his comedy went down hill after Bruce almighty. Wasn't a big fan of yes man or fun with dick and Jane. I preferred the 90s Jim Carrey. I'm sure you've seen fire marshal bill on living color. I wish they had made a movie with that character. Legal Eagle analyzed this movie and completely wrecked the ending where Fletcher wins the case. That’s not how such contracts work. There’s a difference between “void” and “voidable.” This case is the latter. She could’ve voided the prenup at any point after becoming 18 but she didn’t. She continued to enjoy the benefits of marriage for years, thus indicating her acceptance of the contract

I lnow all the comments are talking about the wonderful comedy and quotes, which is totally fair, but to me what really stands out to me is the "Im a bad father"scene. In a movie filled with brilliant Carrey moments, to have a scene that raw and emotional hit really hard for me. To see this man fully believe and realize how much he had failed his son up to this point was such a turning point in the movie.

To answer your question: No, that ruling would not hold up. If she was too young to sign a prenuptial, she was too young to sign into a marriage at all. But if the two had been "illegally" married for years well into legal adulthood and otherwise treated as such, the judge would hold both the marriage certificate and prenup agreement as valid and binding.
