Poor Sheldon was robbed of 2 once-in-a-lifetime experiences in 2 episodes, both through no fault of his own (visiting CERN and going out with Stan Lee). Also, there was an obvious solution in episode 15 - Sheldon could book his own flight and hotel room, Leonard could take Sheldon to CERN and spend the rest of the trip with Penny.

While Leonard can of course choose to bring who he wants, I always felt there was a better solution. The super collider means so much to Sheldon who will appreciate it, and Penny has no interest in that, only a getaway trip with Leonard for Valentines day. Leonard can take Sheldon as his guest, and he can afford to buy Penny a ticket and celebrate Valentines day with her.

I don't know if this is creative, I just completely ignore the day. I'm not in a relationship so that "holiday" holds no significance to me, therefore I just don't worry about it. Now I don't refuse to acknowledge it, if somebody wishes me "Happy Valentine's Day", I will respond in kind. I see no reason to "do something" on V-Day, it's not like I'm angry and saying "F you" to Valentine's Day.

Is this a plot hole/writing/fact error? The HSC was completed in 2008, the year before this episode aired in 2009. Sheldon was born in 1980 and said he’s dreamed of seeing the LHC since he was 9 which would have been in 1989 but the LHC construction wasn’t started until 1998. Only thing I can guess is that his dreams were originally about the Large Electron Positron Collider that came before the LHC and was first used in 1989, when Sheldon was 9, so he could/would have been aware and want to see it so his dreams just shifted to the LHC once it was finished? I stand to be corrected though! 😊

One of the few times when I'm completly on Sheldons side. I don't care that it's a trip on Valentines Day that happens every year. It's a trip to CERN, a place Sheldon has dreamed of visiting since he was a kid. If I was Sheldon I would react the same way and damn I would be furious. I always thought that they should do a compromise. Sheldon gets the invite to CERN since Penny wouldn't care about going there. Then he takes the money (that we know he has in the next episode) and buys his ticket for the flight and hotel. Problem solved. Btw, to answer your question about rituals if we were single, I don't have any. It's just an ordinary day in my life.

No ritual really. Being single mostly means it's just another day. I flip flop with this series for that reason, because I felt the show was at it's strongest when the characters were single. I do understand the need for character growth and that at times means the introduction of a new person in your life to see how they respond to that and the new challenges that come with it. BUT it also implies that the only way the characters can grow is if they have a gf.
