My 9 month old cocker spaniel gets fed up with retrieving very quickly she would rather go scenting of her own accord.Wish I'd have seen this vlog earlier I think I've give her to much freedom . Great video I will endeavour to put these practises into use.

Nick Ridley Thanks Nick Percy doing brilliant .l found these vlogs very helpful .l am going back to these basics to make it a bit more interesting for my dog to give me more attention rather than her doing her doing her own scenting .Just wish I found your channel earlier I've learned a lot cheers👍

Great video Nick. I have a Lab and i'm always keen to learn about others methods, especially when presented like this. Informative and concise. Lovely dog too.

Thanks for your kind comments, I really do try and keep things straight forward and logical. I have learnt it is better to prevent problems rather than trying to correct them!

Great stuff Nick, have got a 9month cocker I particularly like the idea of covering eyes for training blind retrieves,as you say hunting is no problem but have had to work a bit on retrieving
@Pettycordgundogs6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Richard, I see too many cockers that are poor retrievers and in most cases it is down to letting them learn to hunt for themselves when young and that becomes much more fun than retrieving. Cheers Nick

Brilliant series of professional made videos Ted is amazing. If i maybe a little critical can i just mention the wind when you start blinds make sure the wind is hitting you in the face if possible just gives the dog more chance of success.
@Pettycordgundogs6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind comments and your good advice, you are quite right when you say it will help the dog if they work into the wind. My only excuse is that it was so hot without a breath of air it was something that I didn't even think about! Cheers Nick

Thanks Nick and Ted for the excellent video . 👍 what camera are you using in the filming ? Thanks again

I film the videos with a Canon XC10, I shoot them in 4K and then downsize them to a 1080p timeline. I use wireless mics for the audio. Hope this helps. Cheers Nick

great video Nick. Can you teach a show bred cocker to this type of retrieving?
@Pettycordgundogs6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment You could teach a show cocker this kind of work but bear in mind that they may not have the "natural" ability as they have been selectively bred for showing rather than their working attributes. I would suggest that you start the retrieving work very early on to try and build up that desire to bring things back to you. Good luck.....cheers Nick

Nice Video 👍 Did you have any problems like Ted not bringing retrieves straight back to hand and if so how did you correct Ted?
@Pettycordgundogs6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark...not sure if you saw the second in the series "The Placeboard" but I never have had a problem with Ted and I am sure it was because of the way I developed his sit etc on the board. Hope this helps. Cheers Nick
