I converted my 2 year old Cocrain jump boots to Tanker boots in 1983. I added a second strap and buckle across the in-step. They looked and felt great! My Battalion was converted to Combat Engineer in 1996. Most of the Scout platoon joined another Armor Battalion. I did not see myself wearing Tanker boots again, so I gave them to one of the scouts of my name sake. I know he enjoyed them, but sometimes I wish I'd kept them.

I was in the Armored Calvary. Field Artillery self Propelled. We were not authorized to wear tanker boots but you could buy them at clothing sales and wear them off duty. Next door was a tanker company and across the common area another. They could wear tanker, issue field boots or jump boots. Know why tanker boots wear authorized? Because when escaping a burning tank one may have to get out of thire burning clothes. Usually two layers ...MOPP suit over BDU uniform plus underwear. Now keeping tanker boots in a highly polished shine was a PITA as you had to shine those straps also. That's all I know about tanker boots.

@ Nicks Hamdmade; beautiful craftsmanship, however these must be ceremonial, or for civillians who just want the look, right? They do not meet current reg for footwear for the army. 1. Lacks a uni directional, non skid tread for safety inside the turret 2. The heel appears to be 1/2 too tall 3. Lacks a steel or high strength composite shank 4. Lacks a high strength composite protective toe insert (think steel toed safety boot) 5. Are possibly too tall to meet regs. Minimum of 8 inches, maximum of 10 inches.

*Tanker boots are a type of military boot that were originally designed for tank operators, but are now popular with civilians as well.* *Look up "Nicks Boots What Are Tanker Boots?" and there's a whole post about it on their page. Below is a tidbit:* *"Tanker boots are still in military service, as the purpose for the boot design still exists. Beyond use inside a tank, tankers are a great boot design for someone who wants a tough boot that goes on and comes off more easily than a typical work boot.* *Tanker boots as a boot style were invented between the world wars, a couple of years before the start of World War II (depending on how you define that; the history books mostly say the invasion of Poland) and therefore about four or so years before the USA entered the war.* *Tanker boots are very similar to the combat boots of the era, bearing a striking resemblance to Corcoran jump boots. The key difference is that instead of laces, tanker boots use a leather belt that wraps around the boot to fasten them.* *The boot was literally designed by tankers for tankers, with the design being a collaboration between the Dehner boot company and a son of a gun named George Patton. That's right; "Old Blood and Guts" himself.* *Outside of military use...obviously anyone could wear tanker boots if they so choose…and a quality pair of tanker boots would be a great choice of work boots, motorcycle boots, or just for general wear."* *Again, more info is on the post and the specs by looking up "Nicks Boots What Are Tanker Boots?" 😊*

These boots were designed for tank crews. Laced boots used to get caught on things inside a tank so they eliminated the laces and adopted the straps. And lest we forget the fact that these were much more comfortable than the standard issue field boot.
@richwalter31072 ай бұрын
Faster to put on and secure than lace ups, more supportive, and actually more protection to the feet of the tankers. Tankers then, and now, get special pieces of kit to include boots... just don't try to do a 20 mile movement to contact on foot in them

Problem is, America is a nation of cheapskates… refusing to pay a decent price for quality… and opting instead for plastic footwear from china. There are enough people willing to pay for quality to keep a few places like Nick’s going… but there are no more shoes or boots mass-produced here in the states. Shame on you, cheapskates. We had an outfit here in NW Wyoming that handmade deerskin gloves about 20 years ago. Finest gloves I ever saw. They are gone now… Americans preferred crap from Pakistan.
