These videos are pure gold. Thanks for going to the effort of putting them together.

I can always appreciate a good jig! I love these videos, and I can't wait to build my own paddles

Very ingenious. Just when I thought the alternating thick and thin cuts was the smart idea.

Great video and tutorial. What body of water are you on kayaking in the footage included?

The jig looks really nice, but why not add threaded inserts and a couple of starknobs for easy adjustments?
@NickSchade5 жыл бұрын
The primary reason is I didn't have any of those things on hand. You would need to be careful that they don't get in the way of the blade guard, but it could be a nice upgrade.

A brilliant idea with sawing :-)

Nick, First thanks for all the great videos. I have built 3 canoes but am tackling my first yak for one of my daughters. I purchased a copy of your paddle plans and I have a question. The "Blade Curve" line shown on the plans shows about 3/8" curve in 21". The template you are using in the video is MUCH more curved. Do you have any guidance for me on this? Thanks, Greg PS: My daughter is a novice kayaker and 18 years old.

Wow, Nick. Your video skills are nearly as good as your boat building skills. Nicely done! Do you happen to sell he paddle blade jig? I left my CNC is in my other pair of pants. LOL.

I have enjoyed all of your videos and the level of detail to your work is remarkable. What kind of glue are you using?

Hi Tom, I’m using TiteBond III on the paddles. It’s easy, strong and forgiving.

That must be a tight blade on the bandsaw to run true at that height. Why not cut the handle longways into 4 pieces and laminate with contrasting colored wood like you did with the blades? That would create a nice look.
@NickSchade4 жыл бұрын
You can laminate up the shaft any way you like, but like to keep it simple

Hi Nick, great jig. I was wondering for your scrapers, do you use hardened steel or carbide?
@NickSchade5 жыл бұрын
They are steel. I have tried carbide, but they are usually not as sharp even though they stay sharp longer.

Nick great jig! You might consider adding it to your sale items like the robo bevel. With your CNC you could make up several different templates with various radius’s. (Radii)? Doug Hermann

I have thought about that. I've got two different sizes that I make already. Part of it comes down to: Do I want to spend my time at the CNC machine making stuff to sell or make boats.

@@NickSchade How about giving the programming to a friend with a CNC and let him run them for a small fee. They would come in very handy. Only thing I would add on the blade it should be lowered as much as possible in the guide so there isnt any twist of the blade. I did see the adjusting knobs on the saw guide might hit the clamping half of the jig. Nice way to cut multiple pieces.
