Really nice silver leaf pendant. The delft clay really grabbed all the nice details of the leaf. Loved it.

@@Nickscreativestuff no thank you for the inspiration and knowledge.... I have longed to lost wax cast bronze for years and years now.... I built a forge for propane it kind of worked I'm lucky I didn't burn the house down or get seriously burnt.... it was exciting though but the sand casting is really quite beautiful and unique.... I dont know when I will be firing it up again cause I have a million projects I am trying to get in the done pile before I go off and start another one... but when I do I will share it with you... Cheers!

Thanks Timothy, I started out by going on a bronze casting weekend class using the lost wax and ceramic shell technique. Fabulous couple of days money well spent. Getting burnt seems to go with the territory I only do miniature castings at home, a lot more serious when working with larger amounts. I love playing with Delft Clay on a micro level but would be great to scale up sometime and try Petrobond with larger crucibles. Like you say another wish on the large to do list. Stay safe and burn free … Nick

Скажите, что это за материал. Наполнитель для опоки-коричневого цвета? Я лью детали , серебро, в опоку, но в качестве материала использую формосмесь на основе гипса. Вы чем пользуетесь?🙂

This looks amazing ! Is it easy to pour sterling 925 silver?
@Nickscreativestuff
@Nickscreativestuff 2 жыл бұрын
hi Georgia, yes it’s very easy to pour sterling silver, supposedly even easier to pour fine silver. Being able to get it up to temperature is one of the only issues. small amounts are easy with a small crucible and a large propane torch. Oxy propane being a lot hotter makes the process very quick to reach temperature. The other issue is silver cools rapidly so once up to temperature it needs to stay there right up to the point it enters the mould. … Nick

@@Nickscreativestuff ahh I see, thank you for getting back to me! Would you reccomend using a crucible and torch or using a electronic melting furnace? Trying to get started myself
@Nickscreativestuff
@Nickscreativestuff 2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend a torch and crucible to start with. Great for small amounts and for recycling scrap silver into usable pieces. if you’re scaling up and using a lot more silver then a furnace comes into its own normally used alongside ceramic moulds and vacuum casting. For one of sand castings a torch and crucible is cheap, quick and efficient technique to use. if you’re scaling up to produce lots of items being cast at once then this is normally done with lost wax and ceramic moulds and larger quantities of silver being melted in a furnace … hope this helps … Nick
@Nickscreativestuff
@Nickscreativestuff 2 жыл бұрын
another way to look at it is by weight, A small crucible can handle approximately 40g of silver. you can get larger crucibles for torch melting but if you want to melt say 250g for making bars and ingots then you would need a furnace … Nick

I noticed you didn’t create little channels in the sand for the air to escape, isn’t this necessary?
@Nickscreativestuff
@Nickscreativestuff Жыл бұрын
Hi Wije, I find there not always necessary especially when casting in the vertical position and you can allow for a large entrance hole. The air can easily vent at the same time as the molten metal enters … cheers … Nick
