I just wanted to add the perspective of a flashlight "enthusiast" when it comes to this light. This light is not for everyone. If you give this someone as a gift they will absolutely hate it. Safety: This light can be as safe as you want it to be. In fact, I'd even say it can be safer than any other light that doesn't use Anduril. Because you place it into Simple Mode which eliminates turbo. You can also adjust the ceiling, which means you can customize the high mode and make it lower. So, if you take the time to learn about it, this light can be safer than other lights because you can customize what it will do and of course, you have various lockout paths you can take. Batteries: The light doesn't come with a battery not because they are trying to hit a lower price point. It doesn't come with one, because enthusiasts don't want one provided. Nick bought this from a re-seller it sounds like, but when you go to the "real" website, you have a myriad of LEDs to pick from, which all perform differently. Enthusiasts like to order their own batteries from a dedicated battery shop and like to experiment with different kinds. Charging: Enthusiasts don't like USB ports. Excluding one means the flashlight won't have the possibility of a water damage problem due to faulty rubber covers. But more importantly, enthusiasts don't like using USB ports. They have dedicated chargers and multiple batteries so that when it's time to recharge they can simply remove it and not have to wait for their battery to charge via USB. They like this because it means the flashlight is ready to use instantly by replacing the battery. Practicality: It may seem impractical to have such a bright light that doesn't hold its output long, but for an enthusiast, this is the opposite. It seems more impractical to limit a flashlight from what it can fully do. For safety, better run time, or better-sustained output, you can adjust the floor and ceilings for brightness and adjust temperature calibration to make it perform as well as you'd like in terms of run time, or you can make it go as bright as is physically possible; having both ends of the spectrum is practicality maximized. Not to mention you can choose between different drivers that are optimized for either raw performance or better sustained output, aside from just manually adjusting Anduril settings. Overall, this light is specifically made for enthusiasts. But if people are willing to take the time to understand it, it becomes a light that is really for everyone. I got one for my mom who is older and it is the easiest light for her to use, after I set it up for her of course.

I have this light. I wasn't aware that it could burn through anything, until it went off in my pocket. Destroyed my jacket. I now use the quarter turn lockout and I carry it everywhere. It's the best flashlight I've ever had. I'm going to buy another just in case they ever stop making this light. It's that great.

I understand the safety concerns, but the run time for turbo complaints on lights like this or the x9l aren't fair IMO. 1) you don't HAVE to use turbo, and 2) it's incredible what some of these can do if even for 15 seconds. Think of it like a top fuel dragster option in an otherwise already amazing sports car. Not only is it awesome with just the normal high limit, but if you really want to, for a few seconds, it can rival lights 2, 3, 4 times its size from a couple years back. Edit: people do need to understand and have correct expectations.

I EDC the Lumintop FW3A. I am a flashholic and nearly every light I own will start a fire. If it doesn't start a fire it will throw 1.7km. I got into flashlights earlier this year and now I'm hooked. Don't know what it is, but I really like flashlights, just as much as I like knives. Also without the USB port, it makes the light much more waterproof and most people that own lights like that have many batteries and chargers. I know I do. As far as the heat goes. That flashlight along with all of my others has thermal regulation, it will step down as soon as it hits 55C unless you manually hit turbo again. So you can actually hold it without the worry of burns, by the time that heat is hitting the outside of the flashlight it is much less. It might not be the most comfortable but it will not burn you unless you change the thermal regulation to a higher temperature.

I have been using “weird little batteries” like that since I started vaping in 2013. I realize this video was 4 years ago, but even then, 18650s weren’t hard to find or purchase. Your review is okay, but as an owner of the D4 (with a spare 18350 tube), it isn’t very complete. You didn’t really even cover but a few basic things that the light can do. I mean no offense, but you sounded like my parents complaining about how to set the time on the VCR in the 1980s. Your voice says you hate the flashlight, so just say so. The one thing we agree on is how potentially dangerous this flashlight is. It’s basically a pipe bomb if it gets too hot. Thermal runaway would produce gases from the battery and BOOM! I sure hope you aren’t near it if that happens. Actually, I’m kind of surprised no one has turned off the thermal regulator and just film it while hiding behind solid cover. It would make an awesome video!! 😂

New options just became available. SST-20 (High CRI, 4000K) is the best all-around emitter now. Alternatively, pay a little more for the XP-L HI 5D if you want absolute raw output, but the difference is negligible and the new SST-20 emitters are a game changer.

It's a torch. It needs to turn on and off so it can be bright when the world is dark. Beyond that? It's a torch. I do love the word "flooditude" though. Kudos and thanks as always for a great review of a frankly silly thing,

I love my Emisar D4 and use it daily without burning anything lol

Doesn't it get freaking hot after 40-50s? My astrolux s43s does. Astrolux EC01 doesn't heat up as fast and throws better.

I don’t need to use mine for more than 30-40 seconds at a time and enjoy when either the D4 or D18 gets warm because the heat makes for a nice hand warmer especially on the many chilly fog-filled nights here in San Francisco. Rarely do I need to use a turbo setting but when I do, it works perfectly each and every time. Some day, I might step up to one the big lumen throwers like Acebeam X80 or Imalent MS12 but for now the Emisar line gets the job done righteously.

@@iakazul s43s is also a nice handwarmer;-) my copper version get warm instantly on turbo. LOL

A flashlight to see in the dark... That can blind you. How ironic.

Why you complain about insane output? Better to have that not to have

At least the worst case here is a little burn from the light, not a battery bursting into unstoppable chemical flame
@ZakWilson6 жыл бұрын
No. The D4 is perfectly capable of causing a battery that's not rated for the load to explode. Unlike the average vape, it's a pressure-sealed metal tube for waterproofing and/or bonus shrapnel.

Does your flashlight have a built in lighter. I got mine 4300 lumens and Itt gets hot. Never burns anything even on full power step mode etc. I call shenanigans.

What if you put this flashlight on your bag in car, and suddenly turn on turbo mode?

I refuse to compromise with a flashlight that does not have "10,000 Lumens!!!"
