I was looking for some kind of clamp to use when reassembling mine. Never considered a zip tie. Brilliant, so more thanks to Rob. This is more of a PITA than expected. Next time I'll leave the locking mechanism alone and just do the blade. Much easier. Thanks for another helpful post.

Your disassembly videos are not only unique and helpful, they also demystify the internal magic of our knives, allowing a deeper appreciation (or not) for how they were made. One thing I've wondered: Is factory assembly sometimes automated? Hard to imagine a hundred Shabazzkins hunkered over a workbench assembling Dragonfly's.
@drpoppyseed5 жыл бұрын
even on the cheapest chinese knives, there's usually a guy at the end of the line slapping it together. How much that guy cares may vary wildly, but it's difficult to make a machine have enough dexterity to perform assembly.

Nice to see the disassembly of that knife. If you are down to your last zip tie, you can make it reusable by just defeating the locking pawl on the zip tie by depressing it with a small screwdriver, or blade tip. Be careful when using a knife tip as I managed to cut myself the last time I was trying to be frugal with a cheap zip tie.

On my dragonfly, my pivot screw, or actually the D-pin is slightly to long and therefore there is always blade play even when fully tightened. Initially I thought I missed an washer but according to your video it only has one. Could I just file down the d-pin a bit or ad a nylon washer to the screw side? Thanks for the helpful video!

Yep. Lay sandpaper on the table, rub the screw post across it to sand ‘er down.

Is there a metal ring or washer to replace the rubber pivot ring on the Dragonfly?, Many people do not like this rubber ring it looks cheap and does not look like it will last long over time .

If they upsized the Dragonfly to a 3" blade, it would immediately make the Delica, the Tenacious, the Para 2, the Caly 3, the Manix 2, and several other models obsolete. I LOVE my Dragonfly. I just wish it was just a skosh bigger.

so the frame\scales being plastic can act as the washer(s)? but that concept wouldn't work in g10??
@MightyRude7 жыл бұрын
John J. Baranski G10 is laminated glass sheat so it will have a high friction coefficient the glass would also grind against the blade damaging the metal The two plastics used in knife washers are nylon and ptfe Ptfe is very slippery so the scales are probably made from some nylon blend This works ok (not great) but it can give problems over time The biggest problem is that you would have to replace the scales instead of replacing a couple of washers when the nylon wears out Another problem is that nylon can react to certain chemicals so you will have to know if your oil or cleaning solution is suitable for use with nylon (you dont want to use too much alcohol or leave it on too long the alcohol will make the nylon white and brittle)

Sir, I usually enjoy your videos on the "breakdown, repair (if need be) and maintenance" of SPYDERCO's edged weapons. However, on this particular video, respectfully, it plainly appeared to me that you didn't know what you were doing! In your fumbling with this weapon's breakdown, my conclusion, had I been a first-time viewer of your work, would've been to just look elsewhere; ... than be ill-advised!
