@markrenton52765 жыл бұрын
@@joelgranderson7403 Not necessarily true at all. First off, he may or may not run faster without it, but you can't say for sure he would have. smoking weed is nowhere near the same as smoking cigarettes so just because you hear smoking, it's not killing your lungs. Despite that, these days most recreational users smoke weed through various means whether it's blunts which are made out of tobacco, or organic hemp/bamboo leaf and obviously you can just skip that and smoke through a bong which uses water to filter out some of the smoke which makes it less harsh on your lungs. Other than that, he smoked pot for a reason, because if he knew it hindered his performance significantly, he wouldn't do it. The weed could have also motivated him or made him look forward to running and without it, he may not have been as interested in running and he may not have practiced as much as he did to accomplish that 1:57 time. In summary, he may or may not have run faster without it, but you cannot say that his weed use couldn't help him in any way.

Nick Symmonds You gotta invest in some higher quality weed, or different strains. Good weed that’s personalized to your psyche should just feel like a boost, or like an energy shot. A good sativa, or even a hybrid can do wonders. I personally can only smoke some strains because some doe make me too hungry, have cotton mouth or feel paranoid. Trust me!! Finding your strain for you is a game changer
@Stu815 жыл бұрын
I have been a weed smoker for many years, my personal opinion is it depends on the strain, indica being a more relaxing strain then a sativa, I quit weed about 4 months ago completely and i find that i workout a lot more often and my diet is far better now I don’t get the munchies as I would tend to have that fuck it attitude and eat crap because I couldn’t be bothered to cook a decent meal, so I guess it depends on usage, I can image that a nice sativa would help when exercising to add focus and a mind body connection but the truth is if your high to often it can kill your enthusiasm and can have negative effects.

Nick, this was very cool to see. Props to ya man. I never used while being a hs/college athlete, started using cannabis when I was 21, now 32. Been running in some capacity my whole life, consistent weekly mileage the last 10 years. I’ve been running trail and road races throughout the years, 5k-marathon. The irony for me was, around 23 y/o, I had a random idea one night to go for a night run while high, maybe 20 mins max, and it took me to a mindset and experience I still can’t always tap into, it was unintentionally very impactful on my life to this day. Cannabis for me has opened me up to perspectives and awareness that for whatever reason, my wiring agrees with and really enjoy. I use cannabis always after a run/workout, and would never race while high, that’s just asking too much. I do enjoy yoga or hiking, lower level heart rate type efforts after taking a few bowl hits or rips off the vape pen. Lifting is definitely an odd one personally while high, I preferred being buzzed for a run in my early-mid 20s. I use it regularly, but enjoy it more in smaller doses, minus the occasional event with friends or family. I am in a medically legal state too.

My experience was I was a distance runners hiker swimmer. I ingested some cannabis ( no smoke)one day and I was able to scale boulders ,elevators, and slightly angled walls with out ropes (today I would advise no one do this .never scale without safety equipment and others ) on that day I was one with the boulder, the angled wall and the elevator .each movement of my body contoured with the natural elements that enabled me to sense my way through the entire process.

I know im really late to this video but as a weed enthusiast and a competitive runner i wanted to add my experience. I'm a relatively successful middle distance runner clocking sub 2 in the 800 and low 50s in the 4. I find the hardest time to balance running and smoking is when training alone (aka all of quarantine). Not being with friends and teammates on the trails means my mental state (i run sober) has suffered and i am increasingly anxious and pessimistic. My time trials alone have been less than promising tho i believe its more in line w mental effects of marijuana than physical. I have no trouble completing runs or dealing with muscle aches as its a biproduct of the sport. But the mental health aspect is so important in running and if youre a recreational smoker/runner you have to be more aware of your mental health

Did you find that weed affected your stamina/cardio as a runner? Just curious. I run for boxing but I feel guilty smoking because I don’t want it to deteriorate the stamina I’ve accumulated
@xAudiolith Жыл бұрын
@@AlanWayansGGG Use a vape if you wanna avoid the impact on your lungs. You can get handheld ones for way under 100 bucks these days and they do the job for occasional stoners. I personally smoke daily since I prefer the ritual and I went from a 25 minute 5k to a 18:23 in that time. I train about 10-20 hrs per week (running, cycling) and honestly the impact of bad sleep, bad nutrition, bad stress management, injury prevention, fatigue & effort management is much higher than the effect of the smoke on my lungs. It probably affects top end fitness the most but I've built a crazy good aerobic base this season all while being stoned pretty much every day and every workout. It's just anecdotal of course but that's my 2 cents on it. Honestly all martial artists I know are big stoners haha. Something about it just works I guess. I wouldn't worry too much about and always listen to your body. And if you wanna avoid it altogether use the vape.

I train for marathons and get about 50-60 miles a week of running in; I find that smoking, dabbing, or vaping before running really helps me to get into a “flow state” while I’m running, especially if I’m listening to some of my favorite music. I feel like it allows me to focus more on my form and how my body interacts with the world around me as I’m moving around, and it also helps alleviate some of the stresses or tensions I might be feeling before or after a run so that I can feel more loose. It really helps me when I stretch and do breath work before or after runs, and THC and CBD both really help me to come down from a good trail run and get the munchies I need to get food in me to regain the energy and calories I burnt off. I also feel like being high while running gives me a mental boost that I otherwise wouldn’t have in a sober state of mind, which allows me to sort of focus on being in motion over putting the work into motion and i find I often carry myself faster than I need to be going sometimes. Overall, running while high helps get me out the door in a way that works to help me appreciate the act of running, the individuality that comes with each person’s mindset and approach to training, and the natural world around me as anyone who’s been exposed to the outdoors and trees and birds and things while high undoubtedly has been like “damn, nature’s cool.” I love running for the lifestyle and the daily things you get to see and do that just make you feel good!

Forget the law,remember when slavery was legal? I've heard that cannabis can be beneficial. But different strains of cannabis effects people differently as well. There's Sativa,for the mind. I'm a 19 year old basketball player on a D3 college team, and while I am not a super high level athlete, I do find using marijuana helps me with multiple things. I have a lot of knee, and tendon pain from lots of jumping during practice, and when I smoke afterward, it almost completely takes away those pains, and reduces swelling, along with cbd topicals. This helps me feel better about not taking rest days, and helps me get good sleep to recuperate. I know certain people that like to smoke before playing ball, however I find, even with a tolerance to the effects of THC, it still tends to slow me down. On the contrary, I have many times smoked before just shooting around, and I have found that I can get into a very interesting flow state with my shot, and handling. Like Nick said in the video, it can help you feel all of your muscles independently, and you can use that to your advantage in practice. All in all, smoking for recovery and practice can be good for basketball, however, being high in game is a very bad idea for the average player.

So I'm not that aspiring college athlete he spoke of. I'm just a regular 33 year old stoner who picked up running a few years ago. My easy pace is like 10:00, so maybe my story is a little different. As far as physical performance, I've never noticed anything. I wouldn't feel a "need" to smoke before a hard workout or a race like you might with some other drug. Where that might change is on a long easy run. I find it helps me just relax and enjoy the run instead of caring about every detail. This combines with the fact that I run solo; if I had a friend it might be different. But I find that toking up before my 60+ min runs just helps me zone out and cruise at an actual easy effort. It's even better when the sky is gray, slight drizzle, good tunes in the ears; it's just mellow and I love it. For what it's worth, I do smoke it out of a pipe. I've tried THC vape and as someone whose smoked for 15 years, it just didn't do it for me. Many tell me to try a different brand. But, while I would like to try a brownie or something, I'm not exactly looking for an alternative to what I already do. I accept that smoking anything is bad for my lungs. I've was a regular smoker for over 10 years before I even started running. My aerobic system has continued to improve over the last 3 years. I started with your standard run/walk to 5k program and now I've ran a 2:22 half, while continuing to be a regular smoker. There's been plenty of bumps in the road but all of them are your standard rookie mistakes. I tried to run too fast, too far, too soon, multiple times and got multiple injuries and/or burnouts, it happens. I've learned my lessons and found my sweetspots and continued to find consistent progress over the last year+. That's what it's all about for me, is just seeing the progress. I'm not out to beat anyone but myself. If there comes a day where I hit a wall and the only possible cause of that wall is that I smoke pot then I'll have to make a choice. For now I'm just trying to see how far is far enough for me. A half wasn't too bad I could stand to go further. I live 10 miles from the Yamacraw 50k, maybe I'll end up there. I've never really specifically trained to race my fastest in any distance. I know my PRs but none of them were true race efforts, I wasn't there to kill myself. I've done steady states, strides, hills, and a little tempo work. But I've never done any of the hard VO2 workouts. I've just enjoyed seeing how far I can go. Once I find my distance I'll worry about how fast I can go. But for now I'm just gonna enjoy the journey and it'll continue to be 4:20 somewhere.

When I ran track in college I used to smoke and was able to run low 2 800s and sub 16 5k and smoking pot doesn’t do the same damage as smoking other things (I regrettably smoked cigarettes for a bit and noticed much more damage). Also, getting high before a recovery run can be really fun once in a while not gonna lie lol. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous it’s banned in NCAA and other organizations and alcohol isn’t. If you’re more serious about your health and want to avoid lung damage, edibles and thc infused water is the way to do. Dab pens aren’t as damaging either. It’s something that should be used with respect and caution in more of the competitive season just as much as any other substances.

I'm 63 and only started smoking pot two years ago. I am NOT a runner, however I love hiking and I have found that hiking high works well for me. And that's primarily because my mind starts contemplating all sorts of weird things and when I come back to myself I find that I have walked up a steep hill and barely noticed. It makes hiking easier and it makes nature a little awesomer than it already is.

I want to start by saying I'm not a smoker, as you, I've only smoked weed a hand full of times. The last time I smoked happened to be yesterday, where I had 3 hours of PE class in the afternoon (I'm in highschool but I'm studying science of sport along with the other regular subjects like math, biology, etc. those courses are called scientific and technological courses (in Portugal, where I'm from)). What I found out was that while I was high (not HIGH, just slightly high feeling that buzz) my legs and body felt much lighter so I ran like crazy that day, much more than what I usually do. So, for me, being high helps with running. Loved the video, keep it up

I'm 51 and just ran a 3:03 marathon a few weeks ago. I don't smoke weed much, but I do take an edible once a week (I live in California where it's legal). I make sure it contains CBD. I find that it's great for recovery, especially on the eve of a well deserved rest day. It relaxes me and makes my body feel pain-free. I'm with you on the beer, though. Not only is that a great recovery drink, but it's also mandatory when finishing a race.

Fighting and smoking weed is a no go . I quit smoking and my endurance went up times 50 after 3 months . No extra training just stop smoking . More volume and carried power into later rounds . Sativa can enhance performance. Commonly associated effects of use: Sativa often produces a “mind high,” or an energizing, anxiety-reducing effect. If you use sativa-dominant strains, you may feel productive and creative, not relaxed and lethargic. With sativa comes a boost in serotonin, which regulates learning, mood, sleep, anxiety, and appetite. It works to help combat chronic pain and can aid in easing and treating anxiety and depression. Some even enjoy a bit of sativa before physical activity-we love some pre-yoga sativa to get really into the om zone.

Made me think about doing it for recovery purposes as well, but like you I do not like the way I feel when I’m high. I like the way I feel naturally lol

The first time I ran while high, it was honestly amazing. Now I am logging more miles than I ever have. I enjoy the feeling and I feel it helps me get locked in. I would prefer vaping or having an edible before vs smoking a joint or blunt. It isn't for everyone, but for someone who likes to be outdoors, it makes the experience more enjoyable. Also be sure if you try, make sure its a Sativa lol. I eventually want to do a detox and run without it in my system.

I am an ultra runner and I smoke weed. It is legal in the state of Nevada where I live, and I am a 40 something middle of the pack runner with no reason to ever be tested. It brings huge benefits to my running like pain relief, focus, and an overall sense of awareness that I don’t get otherwise. You mentioned the “flow state”, you should experience this on an awesome trail while using cannabis. What I may lose in efficiency in my lungs from smoking is far outweighed by the stoke, motivation, patience, and pain relief I get from cannabis, much of which would probably keep me from running in the first place. Check out my KZbin channel, it’s called Mountain High Adventures, I run ultra marathons and climb the biggest mountains I can find while using cannabis.

What’s the “perfect” explanation? Lung harm? That’s due to the combustion of the plant which is not due to cannabis but because of the fact your literally bringing smoke to your lungs (reason why there are alternative ways like vaping), what else? Because it’s banned? That’s has nothing to do with the plant either but rather just federal laws, please explain yourself
