Hello Nicky, very interesting this artwork with geometric forms and the new squeegee. But I don't know if I still prefer the last year Pair if Abstract similar to these two. Regards from Brazil.

Hi Nicky, I was so surprised and really really pleased to see 2 of your pictures on Friday past when I was in Edinburgh. They were in a glass case and the colour and layers were fantastic. I have been subscribed for some time now, more videos please. Can you tell me what sort of linseed oil you use? Oh and do you let the layers dry in between? I was only in Edinburgh for a couple of days, I live in N.Ireland. Really love the work keep it up, more power to ye!

How did you create the squeegee at 2:00? Do you have to have access to a woodshop to create one like it? I'm quite new to squeegees hehe

He made the squeegee/scraper, he did have a video of him making it here on his KZbin channel, but has since deleted, unfortunately… but from what I remember you can make it from a 2-3 inch wooden dowel screwed or glued into the wooden dowel, and 1/8-3/4 inch plexiglass sheet cut to about 2-5 inches in width! Hope this helps anyone else!!!

Nice work man!! I have been trying the squeegee technique which has been a lot of fun , only problem I'm having is when I run the squeegee across the canvas it is leaving marks from where the frame supports are , so when I'm done I can see a perfect mark across my painting from support cross on canvas . Am I just putting to much pressure or is it cause canvas isn't thick enough?Any suggestions would be awesome ...

Brian Smith I think it's important to finish paintings as best as possible, that's why I remove excess oil paint and blacken the edges. I get the same problem, often the squeegees scrape too hard over the canvas stretchers, so I use a soft brush along the edges to fix this. I think you should use a brush anywhere on the canvas if you want to touch up areas you aren't happy with. I hope this helps!

Nicky Henderson You can also use your thumb along the edges, it depends on the texture

Are you using any sort of extender/quick dryer in the oil paint? Do you let the layers dry before adding the next one? Thank you.

He stated in a previous video that he’s using linseed oil as an extender

Hi Nick, could you tell me what kind of a squeegee do you use at 2:00?
@NickyHendersonArt10 жыл бұрын
I made it up myself - it pretty much just scrapes like fingers through paint

Hi Nicky, Do you make your own canvasses up? If so can you recommend any where for rolls of primed canvas? Thanks
@NickyHendersonArt10 жыл бұрын
Hey, yeah, I make my own. I order massive rolls of canvas from russellandchapple.co.uk. I prime myself, but they stock primed too

Nicky HendersonCool thanks, linen or cotton and 10, 12 or 14oz? Oh and stretcher bars do you buy them from these guys? Thanks for all your help.
@NickyHendersonArt10 жыл бұрын
My last order was cotton, 9 oz and I triple prime it, I don't use stretcher their bars

Nicky Henderson Hi Nicky thanks for your help. I meant stretcher bars not pliers. Do you not use their stretcher bars for stretching your canvases.? And use their cross bars for larger canvasses. They have branded stretcher bars and cross bars. Do you use the Spectrum Alkyd primer for oils or the Robertson's? I really appreciate your help on this as I will probably end up doing all this stuff for some art project for her. Cheers have a great weekend, come on Scotland and of course Ireland against the Old Enemy!! (rugby)

***** Ah yeah, I machine my own frames. I use any regular gesso I can get ahold of, nothing particular from R&C. I only get my canvas material from them. I can hear Murrayfield Stadium from my house right now, I was there for the Wales game. Good luck to Ireland tomorrow!

Hey buddy, Tell me how you went about making your scrapers. I have made a few but they end up coming apart. Plexiglas, wooden handle, and now I'm not sure what to use to connect them together......

Maybe your glue dries to be too brittle, try contact adhesive

Hi Nicky, I have subscribed to you for a while now and enjoy watching the videos, I really love the paintings. I was so surprised and really really pleased when I was in Edinburgh on Friday, when I saw 2 of your pictures on display in a glass cabinet. Wow they looked amazing when you see them up close, the colour and layers are superb. Are you exhibiting anywhere else? I was only in Scotland for a couple of days as I live in N.Ireland. Can I ask do you let each layer dry for a while before the next layer of paint is put on? Please keep posting more videos.

Hey! That's brilliant you saw them! Thanks a lot - I'm glad I put them up there then. I am planning an exhibition soon - I will let you know when it'll be! I don't let the layers dry, the paintings you saw were particularly wet as I did the last blue swipe, that's why they are so textured. I use boiled linseed oil from DIY shops, much cheaper than artist's linseed. Thanks for the comment!

Nicky Henderson Great thanks for the reply and keep me up to date on the Exhibition, people need to see them in the flesh to appreciate the colours and layers. Hope to back over to Edinburgh in May, maybe I'll see some more then. Keep at it!
