As someone who has lived in Anchorage for most of my life, I love seeing others get to enjoy what Alaska has to offer! Running thoughts while watching: - What an awesome location for the AirBnB. That is one of the oldest parts of town and has always been one of my favorite areas of town. - That has to be the emptiest I've ever seen the pioneer bar, but I've never been there before 8pm. - Snow City Cafe has to have the best breakfast in town! - Delaney Park (also called the Park Strip) used to be an airfield, which is why its so long. - Moose's Tooth pizza is definitely good pizza and beer, but its definitely not worth the wait if you are only in town for a few days. - If you can time your trip right, the first Friday evening of every month is free entry for the Anchorage Museum.

We are flying from Australia so starting it in Calgary and working our way down to Vancouver, then staying in Vancouver for a few days before the cruise then spending a few days in Anchorage after the cruise! We chose it based on your recommendations in the video as well as how close it is to the train station. We are doing the coastal classic but get into Anchorage at nearly 11pm so wanted something that was close to the train station as well!

Hi Nicky and Claire.It's terrible that you had a 3 hour delay, but main thing is that you both arrived safe and had a beautiful place to relax and re energize a bit. Thanks for the drone footage. Loved how you captured the city with the beauty of the snow capped mountains in the background. Glad you both had a good first day in Anchorage.Looking forward to the next video. Thanks mate, the delay was an annoyance being stuck on a plane that long, but as I said it was the best day to have a delay as we didn't have lots of plans. If it was any other day it would have been worse! I was lucky to get the drone out there actually as at the cottage it was a no go zone, but further down the trail was ok but with a 60 meter cap.

I'm sure your video ended up in my recommended list due to me living in Anchorage. I've lived in Alaska for a little over 12 years now and I love it! I do miss my family and friends and will probably end up back there eventually, but for now, I'm enjoying all that I can! I loved this vlog, super informational and beautiful footage. Just a stunning look at a little portion of our city. Did you see many homeless while you were here? That's one thing we have a huge problem with here - which does take away from the beauty that is Alaska.
@nickyfurmage6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching, it's funny you should say that as over the last 48 hours I've had comments from a few locals to the area so I'm guessing your right, maybe youtube is recommending them to people in the area! I did see homeless, yes. I would usually point everything out, including that, but I didn't t get any footage of that nature to add to the video to be honest.

I lived in Seattle and moved back to where im from Anchorage 4 years ago. The beginning of this video broght so many Seattle menories back for me I love Seattle and western Washington its amazing. Anchorage can be compared to a smaller Seattle Or somewhere in the Seattle area with similar population maybe like Tacoma, there is alot of the same vibes and look, attitude etc. of course Anchorage has alot more of a winter 6 months with snow on the ground, In that regard it can be compared to maybe some where in Montana or Idaho. Overall Anchorage is a very western/ pacific northwestern type of city and vibe.

Keeping your cool after sitting on the tarmac for 3 hours. I try to be that way, too. Don’t want to bring the negative vibes to the holiday, especially when there’s nothing I can do about it. (Wife reacts a little differently.) But not enough fuel depending on the air conditioner and the altitude? You’d think they’d calculate these things ahead of time. Oh well, you made it and have a nice place with comforts of home, plus Ghirardelli and Werther’s. I can imagine the crisp air when stepping out of the airport. We mostly fly into Vegas or Dallas to visit family in the spring and/or fall. Good look around Anchorage, good eats and drinks. I do get a kick out of it when Claire is happy when finding an ornament she likes.

Hi Nicky, maybe I missed it but is there a reason you didn't start the cruise to Alaska from Seattle and instead fly up to anchorage and back down? I understood the cruises don't drop you in Anchorage itself but a small town about twenty miles away but you can take a car/taxi to the airport.
@markcummings31466 ай бұрын
Also very random question but was the flight up to Anchorage quite turbulent? I heard that route can be due to trade winds and the weather patterns.
@nickyfurmage6 ай бұрын
@markcummings3146 The flight to Anchorage is one way. The video after this one, you will see that we take the railroad train from Anchorage to Seward. After a stay in Seward, that's where we take the cruise from. It's a big trip involving other things, which is why we didn't opt for a return cruise from Seattle.

Amazed by how expensive Anchorage is, I didn't expect much tourism there or local wealth to justify the prices. We visited Honolulu in 2023 and the hotel prices were ridiculous on the beach front, probably the most expensive I've seen anywhere.
@genocide90746 ай бұрын
Having lived in Anchorage all my life, I don't view 49th state as popular as it currently is. I've only been once and while they have good beer, my personal favorite is the Cloud 49. When I think food in anchorage, I don't think 49th state. I think, Humpy's, Glacier BrewHouse, Club Paris, Leroy's, Lucky wishbone, etc. I also agree with the locals you spoke to, I don't care for Moose's or Bear's tooth, big tourist trap, too expensive for not the best pizza.
@nickyfurmage6 ай бұрын
We had club Paris on the list, but didn't get time to go. Glacier brewing looked the best but wasn't hungry at the time, but the food looked great there.
@Searrows4 ай бұрын
@@nickyfurmage Another Anchorage resident here, If I were showing my English family around Anchorage I would avoid Glacier Brewhouse for food because imo it's mid on the execution for pretty high a price. Lucky Wishbone is more of a historical landmark than amazing restaurant, It's decent but I go there for nostalgia more than food. I disagree with Mr.Genocide9074 about the quality of Moose's Tooth and Bear Tooth pizza. I think their pizza is excellent although it is expensive. Moose's Tooth is usually packed so I recommend Bear Tooth the theatre owned by the same folks with near identical menu you can order from while watching a movie.
