I agree entirely. I do like Nico very much & apologize if I didn't make that clear. The whole "idea" of what she was as an artist, the look, the sound and the dark legend she conveyed. Her solo notoriety: easily equal to The Velvet Underground. Female artists famous today don't have that special allure. They have to showboat while Nico was simply intense. She's one of the last visionary bohemian writers that mattered. Patti Smith the other. Nico probably didn't even know how important she was.
@hassanas-sabbagh65622 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more. As regards her solo work, in my opinion, she was more adventurous and exploring than Lou Reed.

I like the unpretentious lyrics. A song about non-committal without being cruel. Doesn't want to hurt her boyfriend, but we all have imperfections. Therefore she doesn't want to give any false promises and she is being honest. I get the impression that she's not going to to be manipulated or worship this guy whoever he is, but it's still a positive issue because she's also saying that she's going to try to make it work. Her long blonde hair reminds me of Marianne Faithfull around at the time, but Nico is not copying her and has her own individual style, her voice in a much lower register. Nice. 😍

I love this message too! Especially because it resonates with how i feel in my love life, too. I get the feeling sometimes in the song that she doesn’t believe she’ll really be that true/loyal, even if she says she’ll try. Maybe that’s something in her expression

truly a unique entertainer and such a unconventional beauty... beyond magazine advert vacuous like so many models- I realize she did model to make money but it wasn't her calling, I was a fan the first time I heard her and admittedly she isn't to everybody's taste, but for me she was compelling, didn't listen to her daily (I don't listen to ANY genre of music as background either), but a glass of wine and a candle... dreams, dreams, always wished I could paint, she evoked so many peculiar images for me, a friar, a hermit stumbling over a cloudy borderline... This ditty, as you call it, is one of the most honest love songs you'll ever hear. Nico doesn't turn mud into gold--she's working with great material to begin with.

What are you complaing about Mike? I didn't criticize her. Some Nico songs are monotone & some are wonderful. The 2 tracks you mention are 2 of her best. But on careful listening, I wonder if she had some singing lessons. Some songs are far better vocally. Today, we know this was Nico's style & accept it. She did write some great songs, but she'll never be regarded as a great songwriter. She needed to balance her songs with some stronger material -- as Marianne Faithful often does.
