Tehsnakerer made an amazing point about that rooftop scene with Shinada and Milky-chan. To have two people, completely broken by the world around them, just talking and dancing about the lives they’ll never have, and the dreams that they lost. It’s quite the bittersweet moment.
@leithaziz2716Ай бұрын
Shinada's chapter is peak humanity. We've all felt his pain at times, and the want for something, as impossible as it might be to achieve, is enough to drive us.
@killertoadstoolsАй бұрын
That rooftop scene with Shinada and Milky is what made me fall in love with Shinada's character, and is a contender to my favourite scene in this game. Shinada is clearly stuck in a rut, what with his piling debt, and he's just found out he can clear his debt with one job, but said job requires digging up old dirt on his fall from grace. Like rubbing salt on an old, festering wound. But in this small and brief moment, we truly see the power dreams have over some people. Shinada and Milky dancing on a lonely rooftop like giddy school children at the prospect of dropping everything and eloping to God-knows-where. Just the idea, no matter how farfetched, is enough to keep him going. It's just a very real, honest scene, and I can't help but root for the guy. Also, Happy Birthday, Mr. Bizzle! I hope you had a great day!
@7thlittleleopard7Ай бұрын
A lot of people shower love on that rooftop scene but personally I was super emotional about the Miyu-chan story. She's a sex-worker, deemed worthless and filthy but Shinada tells her she's beautiful and pure - that she's worthy of love. Sex workers get demonised so much and so oftenly out-of-hand by people, yet here's this guy who is down in his luck but was once a star, who spends a moment to bring light to the life of one and prop up her view of herself. It says so much about who he is as a person. It's just so touching.
@SensualToastАй бұрын
Something I love with Shinada is how he treats women like the one immigrant woman, Miyu-chan and Milky-chan, who are part of the red light district. It's not a secret (as we see in the substories) that people look down on these women as nothing but filth and dirty, but Shinada treats them well and cares for them like any other person. Sure he is a horn dog and benefits occasionally from it, but he puts them as people first rather than objects to fulfill desires or whatever. It just shows what a stand up guy he is.
@MugdhaMahdiShamsАй бұрын
21:20 I really like this scene. How Shinader and Milky pranced around a bit indulging in a fantasy future together.....but then reality sets in and hits like a baseball in the face. Both their roots in their respective fields run too deep to simply run away to some other place and abandon all their other problems.
@yehuda8589Ай бұрын
Everyone yammers on about the Majima Everywhere system, but everyone forgets Yakuza 5's more low-key Takasugi Everywhere system.
@acearcherzx8488Ай бұрын
The rooftop scene with Milky is my favorite part of the game, and one of 3 scenes that can break me consistently. (Funny enough the second one also involves Shinada) This scene has one of the most interesting examples of the theme of dreams, two people just wondering "what if?" reveling in that dream. Milky remembering a childhood dream, and Shinada although unable to find a dream of his own, is just enjoying just trying to find that new dream... And then reality crashes back in. But for just that moment they were at the top of the world. Shinada said that Milky saved him by just being there for him at his lowest, and right when he needs to confront that past, she helps him move forward by just dreaming with him. And Takasugi at end watching the whole thing. Instead of ruining the moment by dunking on Shinada like he always does, he just lets the guy dream, seaming happy he some life in him again.

Character moments in Yakuza 5 really are some of my favourite in the series. I don't want to get long winded, but moments throughout can be *so* good and well done. IDK how best to word it and there's plenty more too come of course but there's just such strength in the characters this go around. And I mean well beyond the main cast. In this game the supporting characters are top-notch and make up the whole so wonderfully. And, as an aside, Takasugi and Shinada's moments together are such a treat. Takasugi is one of my favorite supporting characters in the series period so that's not a surprise (for me anyway). I love everything about him. And Ayanokoji is a RIOT. Happy Birthday Nico! 🎉
@FlareSouLАй бұрын
I see you met Ayanokoji, the weird Heian nobleman (?) who is in fact Shinada's 2nd master. Yup the guy gets 2 masters and to be fair it makes sense considering he treats bats like precious tools than weapons so having a different master based on weapons was a good idea on the devs to put lol. I do recommend you try to do his lessons as early as possible. That said, since you unlocked Kamiyama, I strongly recommend making at least one stun weapon and stocking up on repair kits. Just in case. Remember to do Shinada’s sub missions for the rest of his sturdy weapons fyi! Btw happy birthday Nico!

Shinada's theme, What a FUNKTASTIC Hit is such a good song to capture his vibe. While our other heroes get the more cooler sounding songs, this one is a little more goofy. The song itself was composed by Chihiro Aoki, she also composed Tanimura's battle theme in 4, so there's your Tanimura connection. Now speaking of Chihiro Aoki, I kinda want to highlight her since she is one of the many great composers for this series. Credit to @snowiestangeman for this comment series idea, which I started near the end of 4's LP. I had covered Hidenori Shoji, Yuri Fukuda, and Saori Yoshida. Unfortunately, I didn't get to her in time, so let's fix that. Chihiro Aoki first came into the series with 3, but didn't get a credited song until Yakuza 4. She was also the music director for Ishin, Yakuza 6, Gaiden, and more recently, Infinite Wealth. First, we have her tracks for Yakuza 4. She was the main composer for Tanimura's section. Can't anything about cutscene music, by she did make: Infinite Handcuffs, Tanimura's main battle track. Teufel mit Liebe, Sugiuchi's boss theme. Now, for this game, she composed: What a FUNKTASTIC Hit, Shinada's battle theme. I already said it at the start but might as well say it again. Be the Star!!, one of the songs for Haruka's dance battles. I believe that one was your favorite. highway, as well as a bunch of other songs that play in the background of bars and casinos. highway specifically, still gets used future games. Rouge of Love, the karaoke song that Saejima and Shinada can do backup for. Next is Kiwami 1 and 2, I'm putting these together since she only has one credit for Kiwami 1, and Kiwami 2's soundtrack has not had an official release outside of a small collection of songs. Anyway, the songs she composed were: TAKUMI 2016, an arrangement of Komaki's theme, was originally composed by Hidenori Shoji. Rebellious Phase, the regular boss theme for Kiwami 2. Given to bosses that don't have their own theme. Lullaby of Outlaws, an arrangement of the original 2's Sotenbori's battle theme, originally composed by Shoji. Pride From Despair, the Karaoke song from 2 with Kiryu singing about Majima. A Scattered Eternal Moment, an arrangement of Ryuji's final boss theme, originally composed again by Shoji. Now, we go to Lost Judgment. She may not have been on Judgments OST, but she definitely made up for it with this game's soundtrack. The stand-out tracks from Chihiro are: Blue Stompin', Crane style' theme. Dubious, a tense track that plays in the overworld when things get serious. One day, Sawa-Sensei's theme. Final Destination, an arrangement of Judgment's Destination track, originally composed by Yuri Fukuda. This is the final long battle track. Press on our Way, another arrangement of Destination, but it's used when you're not fighting in the final long battle. Not Alone, the credit's track. Matter Of Factly, a chill conversation track. In the Rhythm, a chasing track, used for the more goofy chases. And last, but very much not least, probably her most beloved track at this point. Unwavering Belief, Kuwana's final boss theme. I believe you said this was your favorite track from the franchise. Fun fact, the arrangement, Dig in your Heels, was done by another composer 83key, another composer who, while may not be part of the Sega sound team, always appears in these games and give us even more amazing tracks for the games There's obviously way more from Aoki, but you haven't got to those games, so we'll leave it at that. As stated earlier, Chihiro Aoki is another amazing composer on a team with other amazing composers, and what she offers is no different. Hidenori Shoji, Yuri Fukuda, Saori Yoshida, and Chihiro Aoki are the main 4 composers at RGG, and they're all wonderful. Obviously, there're more composers on the team, or even collab's; people that aren't part of the team, but will help make music for the games, like 83key, Zenta, and Hyd Lunch. Those last 2 guys are in this game. I hope you enjoyed learning about these composers, even though the first 3 parts were over a year ago. Maybe you found some songs that you fell in love with, or at least gained some appreciation for these guys and gals.

All joking and stuff aside, Shinada really is what we'd call a truly different character from the normal Yakuza protagonist. Aside from just being a mostly normal guy who gets wrapped up in stuff, he also acts pretty differently from all prior protagonists. Each of the prior protagonists have heard the call to action whether it be from outside forces or their own past they tend to face their problems head on. In Yakuza 0 Majima did whatever it took to try and regain his standing and reenter the life and after meeting Makoto he did everything he could to keep her safe. Saejima both times he was in prison has acted when he was forced to escape to find answers, even if he wasn't particularly enthusiatic about it and was weighed down by the weight of his past (in 4) he still wanted to pursue the truth. Akiyama and Tanimura both speak for themselves neither hesitate when pursuing something important to them. Kiryu goes through a lot of development and growth since 0 but even at his lowest in 5 he can't help but become involved in these situations even if he denies wanting to and tries to keep his distance, it's basically inevitable. Shinada is different though he actively tries to avoid the call to action, he tries to talk his way out of it, tries to ignore reality, tries to skip town. He doesn't want to face his fast, he has spent the past 15 years running from it and he has no plans of stopping. While not a unique character he is a unique protag for Yakuza in particular.

Shinada to the thugs he beats up: TASTE MY PIPE!!!!!! one of the thugs: th-thats what she said........ Shinada: wtf?!?!?! Also, i think he's basically the embodiment of the phrase "not all heroes wear capes" and this episode kind of shows that more than the last few that showed this in sidestories. Here he is, a man in poverty/debt, living literally in a shack, not much money, if any, to feed himself. Yet, he still goes out of his way to help others who are in peril themselves, whether it be close to him like the women who were trafficked,or trying to help some people who also play baseball like himself, even taking one under his wings. We should probably take a bit of what he is doing to heart, not to the point of hurting yourself, but helping those in need in general. Karma should kick in at some point, I believe.

A fun fact: idk about the popularity of baseball in other European countries, but in Finland we have our own version of baseball where the bases are set up a little differently on the field and the pitcher is right next to the batter, so instead of the pitcher throwing the ball AT the batter, they throw it straight up in the air for the batter to hit. Funnily enough this strange rendition of baseball is our national sport even though ice hockey is easily the most popular sport in the country😅

Hey Nico, I just thought now that we have have funny baseball man for a couple episodes and you sort of mentioned i nthis episode that baseball is pretty big in Japan, I would share a "funny" story about baseball in Japan. So as I understand it, Japan atleast in part took to baseball so fast because after WWII they were rapidly westernizing (partially forcibly) and baseball was one of the avenues that they could enter the "big leagues" as it were of the world stage. The funny part is that they took to it so well that they absolutely kicked our, the US, ass at the game. And it wasn't professional players either, japanese highschool students were playing navy soldiers in baseball and absolutely kicking their ass. Now of course the USA couldn't take this lying down and we had a genius plan to finally win. What was that plan? That's right, we shot an actual god damn battleship over the baseball game that was being played VS some japanese high school students. Understandably shaken, thestudents who had won p[lenty of games before this finally lost and the USA got its win. So yeah, it took the USA literally shooting a battleship at japanese baseball players for the us to actually be able to beat them.

Nico when completing a hostess instead of cutting all of the talking at the club, maybe you can at least show the first conversation for each rank since that first conversation is the most important for their substories. Then you can cut the rest since those are just some filler where they talk about their hobbies or flirt or some shit. I know you already cut out two hostesses but Shinada's hostess has actually a pretty decent story and development and it would be great to show it all.
