Wow. What a fine presentation. Helpful to an older feller striving to master his elderly fiddle. THANK YOU.

So many insights, but 11:48 tip resonated. Remember an awareness of an "outward giving" versus too much of that self pressure inward, production critique focus! It's SO easy to slip into focus on what we are doing, versus what we are Being or Giving. 🤎 Thank you

Excellent video. Very comprehensive workouts for the right hand (actually right everything: fingers, bow arm , wrist, elbow, shoulders etc.). Enough material for at least a half dozen lessons and a lot of attentive and serious practice for the next weeks of quarantine. Thanks Nicky!

Hi Nicky - Brilliant analysis and unique approach, brilliant! So much to digest. I am a first time viewer. I have a long way to go but love every step, mostly self taught. You repeatedly focus, rightly on tension, the killer of sound and practice. I dare to add one but if advice and that I have found one is always struggling to find practice time, either due to resistance, too tired, other demands, and a multitude of other reasons. In the end you approach the practice with lots of tension. Some simple stretching and relaxing exercises for only a few minutes changes all of that. As an adult student understanding the psychology and neurophysiology is really smart for people to know. But even young children will benefit from your ideas on experimentation. Treat your violin as precious but don't be afraid to go wild and discover all its sounds, good and bad. It removes fear and stiffness. My compliments to you for brilliant approach. And thanks.

Dear Nicola. These videos are a treasure. I am an adult beginner and have been struggling with the bow. I played cello for a long time, and have now taken up this lovely instrument. I may have commented before so forgive me. The one thing that I have issue with is my bow wants to bounce as I approach the tip and I was wondering if I might be locking somewhere in my arm. I have been studying for just under a year, and I do understand that it takes time and lots of dedication to advance. I am going to work on these exercises over the coming weeks and months and continue to return to them. Also, I love how you are just so down to earth and you make learning fun as well as letting us all know that hard work pays off. So a big Thankyou to you from me. I am in Toronto Canada, and I study with Jonathan Garabedian.

Hi, Nicky! Thank you for your videos. They are great. Great for my very poor violin technique, great for keeping me company during my long insomnias, for calming me down and cheering me up...Well, there's a lot more I would like to tell about your good looks, your smile, your simplicity, the clearness of your explanations, the honesty of your witty and straightforward humour, your (excessive) modesty... but that would make my comment too long. So please just trust when I say your videos are a bliss and I look forward in great anticipation to more of them (and I'm sure I'm not the only one). And allow me put forward a couple of subjects I would love you to take up some time: 1) how to play flageolets (I mean artificial, ◇) that sound approximately fine, and 2) different "staccato" bow strikes (I use the word in tis broadest meaning, including all different sorts of "staccato", "spiccato", "détaché" a.s.o.). Détaché in one up-bow strike used to be fine when I was a kid. Now that I am an "over-grown-up" I don't seem to manage it any more... let alone down bow détaché! 🤔😢 Will you be so kind as to take up these subjects in some future videos? That would be great.

Thank you for the help with my tone being strong all the way through the length. The bow distribution exercises were tricky to get right! I'm a bassist so I started each part of the bow with too much tip pressure. I noticed you gave each part of the bow- distribution a job in the RH fingers to pressure the string correctly. My question: The part of the video to save the bow - I got closer to the bridge after beginning the stroke to be able to get the pressure/speed/length pretty good. But It sounds intense. I just couldn't keep it sounding soft. Should I avoid the bridge? I was told to play over the fingerboard for softer tones but I can't do the length. Advice anyone? Thanks, Amalio

Great advice as always, these videos are so useful alongside all the other excercises and practise techniques. I am trying to find “my” ideal bow, sadly probably don’ t have the budget for what I really want or need, what bow are you using? How did you decide it was the one for you?

Hi Nicky, thank you so much for taking the time and effort to doing this, i just have a quick question, i am actually a lefty guy, so i use my left hand to hold the bow and the other to play on the strings, i flipped the cords accordingly, would that be a problem? Thank you again ☺️
