Searching for treasures in the Mud - Mudlarking with Nicola White &

Join Simon Bourne (‪@Sifinds‬ ) as we search the mud for pieces of history on a glorious December Day. Then come back to my sparkly grotto to hear the history behind my finds! Earlier this December Simon and I went out for the day with our Christmas gear on and were treated to a most spectacular sunset as well as some fabulous finds.

Ritter & Clifford owned the Guildhall Tavern, Gresham Street E.C., a "Chop and Steak House, fitted with the Silver Gridiron". They specialized in Freemasons' Lodges. Fremlins were taken over by Whitbread in the 60's, they were one of the biggest in Kent with Breweries in Faversham ( now tesco ) Maidstone ( shopping cemtre ) and Rochester. When Whitbread took them over they let the brewery brew their ales as they had always done and called it Whitbread Faversham . I have had many a pint and used to travel 20 miles to chug em down. Alas whitbread no longer brew now but have gone into hotels. Happy Christmas

Merry Christmas Nicola! Very much enjoyed the Christmas mud lark! Always a pleasure to lark along with you and Simone! The baby feeding item is fantastic history! Between the lax cleaning of the baby feeding system and the lead used in pacifying toys babies had to really have a guardian angel looking out for them! Victorian Times were so deadly for children. Love the pub flask and three bucks plate. Blessings that 2021 will bring some needed normalcy to our lives. It

Nicola, I stumbled upon your channel and have been following it, regularly, ever since. Without effort I have learned from you, among other things, how to instantly age clay pipes to their relevant century. The Xmas tree at the end of this video reminds me of the relatively unseen work you do in cleaning up the plastic that finds its' way into waterways around the world and prompts a lot of contemplation about how we can all do better. You've shared personal stories and to that I raise a virtual glass as a toast to all our absent friends. Yes - may 2021 be a bit gentler on all of us and may we all be a bit gentler with our planet and one another.

I found a saying for the "for age and...."fragment: "For age and want save while you may No morning sun lasts a whole day." by Benjamin Franklin And it looks like the fourth word could actually be "want"... And the "s" of the next word matches, too. He lived 1706 to 1790. Is it possible that a quote from him is on an English plate? If it is an English plate at all. I think you already found American things in the Thames, so... who knows? 🙂 Merry Christmas
