Building a Wood Stove Stand: Tiny Timber Frame Pt. 12

This small stand was more work than I had planned! 26 mortise and tenon total took a good deal of time, but i’m happy with how the design turned out. The wood stove is made by Cubic Mini, and is typically used in tiny houses, sailboats, and van conversions. Enjoy the video!

Nic, I have just watched all 12 of the cabin build videos back to back (while waiting for a project to render - not idle as such!) wow! you make Paul Sellers look like a wood butcher (only joking). Is that going to be the sum total of items in the shop? a few expertly chosen hand tools and a bench? so interesting to see this, in almost direct opposition to a great deal of the other maker channels. I guess less is more on this occasion. I was interested in the chosen height of the shop, it seemed out of proportion to the floor plan. Will there be a storage loft of other height usage or is this to future proof project builds? It was a real pleasure to watch this series. In addition, the lengths you went to to offer total coverage in terms of your camera set-ups was also quite exceptional. As a film maker I appreciate the narrative nature of your work, congratulations.

Great fun to watch. One of my favorite woodworking channels. Interesting to see you plane the end grain on your panel last. I usually start with end grain cuz it tears out so badly, but yours did not. Must be skill.
@NicTaylorWoodworking
@NicTaylorWoodworking 2 жыл бұрын
I switch back and forth, if you plane the long grain down first, there isn’t much to chip out (with a good sharp plane of course) the other way works too, but i’ve had a chip or two run out on me, but it normally works just fine. Glad you’re enjoying the channel, more to come!

The tool chest plans can be found in The Anarchist’s Tool Chest book by Christopher Schwarz. An easier first one to build is the Dutch Tool Chest. There is a popular woodworking article on that by the same author. Also, Megan Fitzpatrick is currently writing a book on it as well.

Really excellent stuff: have you got any other projects planned for the future? Running framing workshops might be a winner: if I weren't a million miles away (as good as), I'd come. Looks like a nice spot you're in, and the dog's a delight! If he's a he, he'd probably get on with my hound. If she's a girl, probably not...

Hi Nic, I'm taking my first Timber-Framing class in July and am looking for a 1 1/2" chisel. I know they say "buy once, cry once" but since I have never done this sort of thing before I'm looking for something maybe a little more entry-level to see if I like it. Can you suggest something other than the Barr that might be easier on the wallet? The course itself is already pretty pricey

congrats on the upcoming class! consider checking out the Sorby 1 1/2” framing chisel. I’ve not used it myself, but i’ve seen it recommended by folks who have. good luck! www.highlandwoodworking.com/sorby1-12framingchisel.aspx
