Wow …18 years ago a 25 week old fetus surviving was almost unheard of. I’m an RN and I worked in labor and delivery for 22 years….. What a long hard fight for all you , and I can only imagine the emotional roller coaster for you ..! How wonderful that she’s done so well but I totally understand how the emotions must still be so raw and possibly at times seem like it all just happened, especially because you’re life was in such precarious state.

Mohammed's dad seems like such a standup guy. He thinks of all the other parents with their NICU babies. He's so gentle and kind. Drops everything when his wife is crying and tells the camera crew to leave them alone for a minute. He wants to break down and cry but he knows he needs to be strong and get things done. That's a good man right there.

I can't even imagine what it must have felt like for both of them. I completely empathize with the mother for being afraid to visit or look at the pictures, she was deeply in shock and if she saw the pictures then the situation they are in becomes real and she couldn't deal with it at the moment. Going into labor suddenly, without warning, your baby in the hospital, not being in your home country, probably going to lose your job and be in massive debt. I don't think I could do what either of them went through. I'm so glad things worked out well in the end.

Even when they live mere hours or days, they will always have a piece of your heart. My 32 week son, was born weighing 3 lbs / 8 ozs due to placenta abruption. He did poorly since birth due to trauma of abruption. I hemorrhaged and coded on the operating table. My angel was on earth for 48 hours before earning his wings. We had our second daughter three years later. So when asked how many children I have, I tell people I have two daughters and one angel in heaven waiting for me.

I have identical triplet nieces who were born at 28 weeks gestation. The smallest of the 3 weighed 1 lb 7 oz. The other 2 were 2 pounds and 2 pounds 2oz. The smallest was so small because her umbilical cord wasn't working properly. The last ultrasound she was 1lb 14 oz and that was 1 week before she was born. She gained 7oz very quickly and was back up to 1lb 14oz in about 2 days.

After we got him home, I tube-fed him for 9 months! I had a 4 yr. Old, and a 2 1/2 year old. And my husband took a job traveling so we had insurance to cover the hospital expenses, he worked away 28-32 weeks/year. He’s doing great, he’s 39 in November and they are expecting their third baby. My mom spent 6 weeks in NICU with my premature brother, he came home and within a month suffered anaphylactic shock from his first vaccines, so they spent another month in NICU, then when he started to recover a nurse mistakenly gave him a double blood transfusion and blew a large amount of his blood vessels causing severe internal bleeding… so he spent a few more weeks in NICU… He’s now 26 and healthy but to this day if you ask my mom about NICU she will tell you they saw so many families in worse shape than them and many didn’t make it, it just made my parents so thankful….
