I’m due in a few days. Here in Ireland all of the prenatal classes that were once available to women are non existent due to Covid. If it weren’t for this series I would be panicking because I would have basically been going in blind but this has helped me so much, I feel prepared for labour and delivery. Thank you. I would love to be able to thank this lady herself, amazing woman.

My second child I started laboring at home after a full day of shopping. So I told my husband at the time, he need to take me to the hospital, but watch the potholes in Brooklyn streets. But then I told him look just drive in the potholes,baby might come faster. Well guess what , from the moment I reach the hospital which was about 5:30 am, by the time i was checked in( was supposedto give birth in the Bronx), find a room, this boy was born at 8: 10 am. One delievery doctor for a few women who was in labor. Labor stories are the best.

Talk through it. Talking helps talking about how much the pain sucks 😂 crack some jokes. Whatever it takes to redirect the anxiety. Breathing does help but sometimes you just need to complain. “Oh baby jesus take the wheel here comes another one can’t i get a flippin break here? Ahhhhhhhh. Ok that wasnt so bad im good the epidural can wai..... Aaahhhhhh here’s another one go find me an epidural now!!” 😂 looking back it was a good time to be honest. So I've had a baby and gone through another class that was extremely helpful then but that was also almost 5 yrs ago. I'm currently pregnant now and the OB's office I'm going through offers an online class but it was always when I was working so it was a pain. Then I got the I idea to look on here and I'm really happy I did. This is making me feel a lot better and it reminded me that I remember a lot more then I thought I did. So I wanted to say thank you very much! To everyone who participated in this. It's been amazingly helpful and I really appreciate it! Thank you guys so much!!

Speaking from poor experience, if labor is going long and you are starving, eat. My labor went 48 hours, I had bad reactions to all of the medications they pumped into me and they put a catheter in so I couldn't walk around to progress labor. It was a long 48 hours of not eating or sleeping to have a cesarean anyway. By the end of it all I could not recover from being so far behind

Do look into delayed chord clamping it when you cut the chord as all the blood goes back to the baby and cutting the chord becomes as easy as slicing the butter as it turn white and soft.

I really hope these courses focus on positioning and transition because 20 yrs ago it was lay on your back strapped to a monitor and push when it was time. We really need to use gravity and movement in early labor to get the baby to drop. Then as we get closer labor in various positions and focus on the breathing to oxygenate the baby. I got all primal and was grunting but one nurse was all no your baby needs oxygen. Breathe breathe. It's hard but it super important to remember that.

My sister never had true labor pains! They felt like mild period cramps, and every time she had one, she would say, “I think I feel something, like a period cramp, but I’m not sure.” (I wanted to scream, “Feel SOMETHING, dang it!” LOL!) However, because they came at a steady pace-roughly every three minutes-she decided to go to the hospital, just to check. She was at 10cm by the time she got there! Her baby was coming shoulder first, and they had to rush her to get a c-section. But even at 10cm, she never had the feeling to push. (I think her uterus was broken.) Her doctor told her that those extremely mild pains are incredibly rare. Heck, I could’ve told her that! I was so freaking miserable with both of mine! I was in labor for four days with my first, and with my second baby, I couldn’t have an epidural, because I had a bad reaction the first time. All natural… ugh!

With my first pregnancy I'm water broke at 37 wks, 5 days. It actually fully broke and I lost my pug about 15 minutes later. I called my midwife and was told that it was most likely false labour and to get some sleep. BAD ADVICE. Not only was I unable to fall asleep but I was in active labour and should have been told to walk around or come to the hospital. I called again 6 or 7 hours later and by this time I was counting time between contractions and they said a midwife would visit me soon, just rest and relax. A few more hours later she arrived, close to 9 hours after my water broke, and she assessed me, I was now only 3 cm dilated and she said it was real labour but very early. 🤨 Still being told to relax and wait, not walk around, it took another 12 hours for them to finally say we should go to the hospital IF THINGS DONT PROGRESS FASTER. In the end it was 36 hours between my water breaking and the actual delivery because I was give. Bad advice while I labour. So if I can offer any kind of advice, if you think your water has broken, if you think you are in labour, even if it does only turn out to be false labour, walk around straight away. Don't sit and don't rest. Trust and listen to your body because if it's true labour the walking will help things progress and if it's false labour there is no harm done anyway. 11 weeks away from baby number 3 and my second labour was only 3 hrs, also a few weeks early, because I followed my own advice based from my previous experience.
@marial2382

I'd leave as soon as you think you're in labor because you may find it hard to sit in a car later in labor. Also, you should probably travel and try to get to the town where the hospital is located while you can still concentrate on driving/travel.
@Xenia2812
@Xenia2812 4 жыл бұрын
You want to ideally be in active labour before going but also it depends how far the hospital is to you. Mine is a 15 minute drive so i would leave when there 4-5mins apart. If your like an hour away id call triage as soon as your in labour and you know its labour from timing them for about an hour then explain you will be driving yourself and live an hour away and they will telm you when they want you to start heading in ect.

My birth did not go at all according to plan. I developed pre-eclampsia. I went to the hospital for Non-stress test (NTS) which essentially monitors the baby and my blood pressure. After about an hour of testing, my OB said I couldn't leave the hospital. I was admitted and induction began. After nearly 2 full days of induction meds, my cervix wasn't progressing and my blood pressure was not improving. My doctor came in and said we are more than like doing a c-section within the hour. I wasn't happy, but it was what was best for baby and me. I ended up delivering a week early at 39 weeks. I have a healthy baby boy and am on my road to recovery. Thank you for asking! God bless!

For those concerned, this class is geared towards those with partners. If you’re a single mom with no ‘coach’, there are huge portions that are not for you.

A coach does not technically need to be a partner. Single mothers can have a doula present or someone they trust like a dear friend or relative.

Do you have a sister? A friend? Mom available? You can choose your birth coach. Don't feel like you have to do it alone! It doesn't have to be a husband or a boyfriend. Some women don't even want their husbands there. Lol.

MillennialExploration as much as I understand this, that isn’t always the case nor is it MY case. I am a single mom with no coach. I don’t live in a place where my friends and family can come assist me. My statement was not made to condemn the class but to inform those who don’t have a coach, partner, friend, family members or others to assist.

Rhonda L actually, yes I do have to do it alone. Having anther helpful nurse there is my only equivalent. Though a nurse is helpful, it’s not the same as having support from a loved one or a mate. I appreciate your concern.

I’m pregnant with baby #9. Some of my labour’s are less than an hour, with doctors/midwives not getting there on time. My contractions would be 3 minutes each. And dialating to 10 cm within 1/2 an hour. Know your body, because not all labours are according to a chart.

@@lotus_flower2001 children are always a blessing. Each one is unique with different personalities and with a God given purpose. I can’t imagine life without any of them. And they are all excited for another one. No, it’s not a hoarding thing. I came from a big family myself and love all my brothers and sisters. (No, we didn’t always get along, haha). I got pregnant with my first when I was 18 with my then boyfriend, married him, 2 more kids, but had to leave due to abuse. Had 2 more with my new boyfriend. Married him, and we’ve been happily married now for the last 10 years, adding another 2 and this one. No, I’m not a saint or Amish. I am a Christian who has made many blunders in life Like everyone, and thankful for the beautiful children I have. I am learning and growing everyday. And yes, I’m still in shock that I’m pregnant again, but I know that I also wouldn’t ever trade this little one for anything in the world. My oldest children are now in their twenties, so it’s not like I have 9 toddlers running around😉

Yes knowing information is wonderful but the reality is we don’t all have bodies who know what a text book labour is. Once my body starts it’ says it’s go time. I’m kinda jealous of those in early labour who can go shopping...? Not me. I love to hear everyone’s experiences though, I love that all labour is different just like each little baby is so different and such a beautiful gift! I’m glad to hear you love having a big family to share life with. And congrats with baby #9 on their way!

i like t he idea of all these different ways to be during labor, but she never talks about how your going to be hooked up like crazy. I had a monitor around the baby and an internal monitor. This was all before I had an epidural. And I had to deal with being super hooked up for a good 15 plus hours before i had an epidural. I felt like i could never move. it was awful. I wasn't prepared for how much they limit you. Also i had no real complications other than my water broke before I started labor on its own. So I had to be at the hospital most of the time, about 12 hrs after my water broke. Labor took 38 hrs total from my water breaking. Most of the first 15- 18 hrs was more like pre labor though. So I'd love to see them address how your medical team may have you hooked up, even if you dont want to be, and you may not be having any complications. Also how your nurse rarely will be around. I thought they would be there helping throughout the labor, but they just come and check you every few hours, and don't stay around till its time to push. Not trying to scare anyone, but I expected a totally different experience. Especially since they told us that they have a ration of 1 nurse to 1 patient. I was there for 3 full shifts of nurses and maybe saw each nurse a max of 1 hr during their whole shift. Our childbirth class had been canceled as well, 3 weeks before i was due. And this was before there was any of these online videos. 2017. We had no idea what to do or how to be, and for sure my husband wasnt prepared to be super helpful. So we thought our nurse was defenitly going to give tips and help, that was not our experience. I'll be alot more prepared this time around, but it does look like there will be no classes again because of covid.... Also once i got an IV it really stabilized my contractions. And the epidural really did help and did not make me numb, just took some of the pain away. So much better then what I had heard. I also could feel everything and move my legs no problem. So keep that in mind, you wont feel paralyzed. Hope that takes some fear away for you if your scared.

You can opt out of all of that by saying you prefer intermittent monitoring. With my first, I came in and they took data for 20 minutes while I stood because I didn't want to sit. After that, they listened for the baby's heart rate every so often using a devise on my belly. So, I never had to lay down. I could move as I wanted.

I used to mock these classes but i wish my husband had watched them 😂 my husband was so into the first 3 but by the 4th one he was playing on his phone by active labor wondering why i was making a big deal out of the pain “oh baby jesus here comes another one dude give me a break...” (me talking to myself) he’s like what do you need me to do? (Head down in phone tap tap tap) i have babies fast and pretty easy so he wasn’t that concerned. It was fine but i wish he had learned a little more. He did help the nurse move me around after the epidural that was cool good job dad 👍🤣 i push twice and baby is out every time so he always on the cleanup aisle helping with the baby getting scrubbed down. Even those little neck massages wouldve been nice at any point in our marriage. Maybe i need to be more vocal 🤣🤷‍♀️ Shes talking about mirrors and rubbing babies head. The pushing phase for me lasts literally 5 minutes. They never asked me if i wanted to nothing. I got a baby! Yay🤣

Ashley if my husband ever wonders why I’m making a big deal out of the pain, I’d most likely tie him down that very night and shove a 4 inch wide dildo up his ass to see how he copes with the pain. Thank God he’s not as he is the total opposite and I truly wished all women would have such a compassionate and understanding life partner by their side. I’m due in October and he’s been a Godsend so far, helping (an understatement) with the house chores, groceries, pets and family responsibilities.

@@mersaphireful I sat at 4cm for 4 weeks before going into active labor. No complications but if I'd been stuck at the hospital, probably would've had unnecessary interventions. So I guess there's still too much variability at that point between laboring patients

Great class, excited to the info to use! Sorry for being OCD about terminology ... The definition of" frequency" is number of occurrences per unit time. So if contractions are occurring every 18 mins, the frequency would be 1/18 mins, or in English, one cycle every 18 mins. The "period " is defined as the amount of time between occurrences. So in this example, period = 18 mins. It is the period that you time in labor, not the frequency.

I'm so frustrated. Cause I gotta call someone who lives 2 hours away to come and babysit my son while I give birth to the second child. So, I need to know a bit on beforehand, before it gets critical. But I have been having this false labor that starts in the back and radiate to the front. They don't however get more regular, but keeps coming through the night. This happened in week 34 and week 32. I am week 35 now, and it's not happened in a few days. It's super annoying, like a convincing false alarm.
