13:00 As someone who hasn't played League in recent years but lived it religiously through 2010's, Nidalee became a pro-play staple right after her gameplay rework (ult becoming available at lvl 1 instead of lvl 6 was the most noteable change) simply because she powerspiked like crazy at lvl 3 and could kill pretty much any character in the roster on her own or at least pressure them enough to a point that they had to recall every time she'd gank/invade jungle. I reckon people who still main her can still pull off crazy stuff like that with her. Also yes, quick clears were a big part of it too. Come mid game she'd transition more into an artillery mage/pusher kinda thing, even though her spear damage got reduced she still chunked when ahead and the attack speed on heal meant that your adc could take towers in a matter of seconds and the enemy team couldn't really respond. Idk what the landscape is now for her but those are definitely the main reasons why she was as contested as she was back in the day

AP nidalee actually was very weak after the rework. Her ap ratios had to receive multiple buffs while at the same time nerfing her AD builds from the top lane as they were MUCH stronger. After that she was rather balanced in all 3 roles until patch 5.2 where they gigabuffed her in the jungle for no reason whatsoever making her mark apply on camps and stunning aswell. and still to this day both top and mid nidalee are completely dead as they gave her 20 different nerfs instead of reverting the change that made her broken in the jungle in the first place lmao (anyway ill stop whining about the fact i cant play her in lane without trolling lmfao)

I feel the same way you do about Nidalee with Twitch, only instead of the visuals, it's the lore that's been the only thing left behind. They updated Twitch in all sorts of ways, his gameplay is solid, his visuals have been updated and look quite great, his VO is really funny and geniuenly underrated. And then his bio is literally shorter than Shaco, Cho'gath or Corki. He has no lore to speak of and Riot has no reason to give him one with how things run currently. He even has a super old color story but it does not even actually feature him and was apparently more of a teaser for a cancelled champion..

Nidalee became a really good pro play pick because she'd first clear really really fast and then would basically be an auto instawin in any 2v1 or 2v2 fight if she hits a decent spear, which if you played her with the classic combos like Renek was easy to do. She also had the advantage of being the only real jungler that could also work in a poke comp for a long time (and Poke has always been way stronger in Pro than in Soloqueue just because objective play is much more reliable). So combined she could guarentee an early lead and set you up for really obnoxious midgame objective fights and sieges. (Until she didn't win early game and then was useless for the whole match)

Nidalee is popular in pro play because of her clear speed. Pros who properly know how to utilise her kit can sync/coordinate + reset her human/cougar abilities so perfectly her clear speed outpaced every jungler at the time.

My only counterpoint is that the dance is harmless if you ask me, we have champions who are guys and also do unapologetic stripper dance, like Sylas, he's a prisioner, a mage and anarchist but when you press CTRL+3 he's just swinging chains the same way a stripper swings a shirt

The problem with Nidalee in particular is that the whole design is blatantly ripped from racist tropes about black and American indigenous women which more often than not include a fetishization element, so Sylas doing stripper moves *is OBJECTIVELY* nonsensical towards his character and lore but Nidalee's just adds to the racism of the design.

I would say that Sylas is on the same level as fucked up, but in a different execution. Dude's as close as possible to a Holocaust survivor, and in his youth he even helped find people similar to him before being jailed but his dance isn't any sort of rallying cry or a gesture to incite rebellion, they gave him a shirt spin and sexual hip motions but just changed the shirt for chains.

I don't pay attention to proplay, bur I assume the reason Nidalee would be popular is due to her kit allowing her to achieve what most of the shapeshiters do: poke then engage. Her spears have high damage, especially if building burst AP items, and her melee engage also deals high damage, especially after landing a spear due to the passive mark. The empowered dash with increased range and decreased cooldown also gives her good mobility, and her melee has good aoe for jungle clear. And this is all achieved using just her Q and R in human form, then the rest of her abilities in beast form. This leaves two ability slots which can be filled with random bonuses, which is her heal and traps. A pro player might view these as the heal providing good sustaib and early jungle clear with attack speed, whilst the traps function as additional wards by providing vision, and also allow easy engage due to them applying the passive mark. Overall, Nidalee's kit functions similarly to other shapeshifters (Elise, Jayce), but her poke only requires one ability, which does high damage and low cooldown, her engage deals easy good damage and clears jungle well, whilst her heal and traps are extra bonuses because why not. This may not be as good as other jugglers of current design (Bel'veth), but still makes her a strong contender for proplay due to her versatility and simplicity to achieve burst damage reliably.

I think, even in pro play, Nidalee is more of a pocket pick and fairly few play her. Its hard to find impact on her, the AD build this season was mostly a lane bully. I remember a time, where she didnt get here cougar form until level six and the spears were easier to hit with way more damage tho 😄

Nidalee is good in high elo (and sometimes pro play) because she has a ton of early game pressure. Most challenger games are essentially over at 10 minutes, so early game champions are valued very highly.

To answer your question, these days, Nidalee really isn't that much of a 'proplay staple' as much as stuff like Kalista or Gnar are. Nidalee is incredibly hard to pilot, which actually makes her more difficult to slot into a team comp in pro. Her kit is just niche and difficult to pull off damage when you could play some more consistent DPS junglers. Some players like Canyon have her as their signature pick, but only because he's a Nidalee main. Most others don't try her unless she's meta at the time.

​@@baguettez99Well to be fair, it depends on what aspects of sexuality we're talking about. Is it good for Nidalee to have gigantic badongas ? No, that part of her design sucks real bad. Is the fur ultra skimpy outfit a good thing ? The one she's wearing, definitely not. And I could go on for a bit, the long hair is also pretty shit and blablabla. That being said, I could very well buy Nidalee having a muscular, lean body. Wearing light non cumbersone clothes is also pretty neat given she can polymorph into a giant cat. And sure, having a pretty face would be kinda weird but you can 100% have a somewhat sexualized design for Nidalee. Heck, the LOR version still leans into that a bit and that one gets all the praise.
