In 2020 the annual band competitions were not held due to Covid-19 Pandemic in Japan. As a result avirtual competition was held where each band submitted their entry via video. This performance is Tachibana's winning entry.

Thank you so much for coming back to this unique and brave band. You ask how many students played in this performance: 97, almost the entire band membership. As another commentator explains, this performance was from an on-line tournament that last year, because of covid restrictions, replaced the normal marching contest. The contest rules require that competitors first follow a set pattern, after which they can choose a free format. That explains the formation you see in the first half. As you note, Kyoto Tachibana chose to open with emotionally moving music, reflecting the extremely difficult year high school students had suffered because of the restrictions- which, by the way, have been re-imposed. Here is a video of the band forming other patterns. The event, held annually, brings together many high school bands, totalling about 3000 students. The top right-hand quadrant of the video shows the patterns being formed. The performance starts at 0:26. You all are missing one of the best in these gyms not all of the students are performing Watch the Pasadena Bandfest im tell you you will be amazed at what you see. Select the one that's 29 minutes long. They have 2018 and 2019 they are both excellent performances.
