I have used other small portable printers and they are great to have. I travel the world as a photographer and give out physical pictures to locals and they are so happy, and I come back the next day the people are way more responsive to you taking photos even if they don't get one in return. They take you to places others don't see, or are open to talk. When in Iraq I gave Iraqi soldiers pictures of them in uniform on duty. One of the guys told me a few days later his mother loved the print and he was so grateful for something to give a deeper connection to his family, his mother and wife made me one of my favorite meals and a big hug. Never underestimate the power of a physical photo.

I love the concept, but just a word of warning. We had the CP1300 and when it worked it was fantastic...but getting it to connect or even recognise what size paper we had in the machine just became ludicrously expensive with all the failed prints and time wasted. Today I got Canon R50 camera and noticed that there is direct print possibility. Had to test it with my Selphy CP1300 with "Direct Link" or whatever it was called, printer was set as a WIFI-hotspot or so, then on Canon R50 camera I was able to select that printer and then I was able to print photos directly from camera with Selphy CP1300 without need to use cellphone either. I tested with two photos and both worked well but I got white border around them, might be because of aspect ratio of the photos in my camera or some settings, didn't checked but this was cool feature :)

i prefer the instax printers for when i'm out and about and shooting with the possibility of handing out prints; i usually have either the square format or the wide format printer in my bag. for in the studio and events, i have a hiti p510s which does dye sub prints up to 6x8" (152 x 203 mm). i definitely agree about versatility of these kinds of printers and people just love getting instant prints. i'll always advocate for printing your work; big prints, small prints, doesn't matter. just having your images in a tangible form can completely change your perspective.

@thomaschipman Жыл бұрын
@@NielsdeKemp the instax prints definitely have more of an analog feel to them, but their print quality is sufficient for their size. the dye sub prints are higher resolution, but can feel too digital, so i typically adjust them to taste as i prefer the less sharp feel of film. with regard to the matte finish, dye sub printers usually overlay a matte sheet on the last pass, after the color passes. on the hiti, the result is pretty good. it is a shame that canon's variant doesn't do this very well.

"Glossy" or "matte" is not the paper - it is the structure (or lack of structure) of the protective coating. The 4th run through the printer, as only CMY are used, is this coating, and it is always glossy (and therefor needs this pattern to become more matte). I'm fine with glossy, it is also a better protection …
@EPeltzer5 ай бұрын
Agree about having a fast 4x6 in print in hand, so useful. Though personally I'm sold on the Ecotank printer, super fast, super cheap per photo, glossies are stunning, large, small, dedicated paper tray for 4x6 in paper, mine also prints large super A3 13x19in. Can print wirelessly from a phone. A lot of photographers go for a big fancy multi cartridge pigment inkjet, only to find that it constantly clogs and ink cartridges are really expensive and always running out. So then they get a simple little Selphy like this to take that pain away. I switched from this strategy. With the eco tank if I have the slightest desire for a print I just go do it because it's so cheap and fast it always works and it never clogs and if the ink ever gets low which it hardly ever does you squirt a little more ink from a bottle into the tank. Sure if you need a small portable device like this on a shoot then that's an advantage. But in all other cases give me the eco tank.

Also, if you get a dust particles on the paper while it's doing it's thing, you will see some funny colors on the picture. It seems logical that you would need to resize every photo you wanted to print to fit the 6x4 output of this mac hine. This is tedious and would effect how you see the image, which is obviously not what you want, or you would have shot in that 3 : 2 ratio in the first place. I can't think of one photo I have taken at that ratio. Just sayin' ... Cheers and thanks again !

You can get 6x4 prints way cheaper from a lab (especially if ordering many) that's not really the point of the Selphy. I'm now on my 2nd one (CP1300) it's about the convenience of having instant access to an instant print at a reasonable cost and minimum fuss. My original one still works was just so old I can't get software for it to run on my latest devices. I get large prints made at the lab, being able to proof reduces waste and gives a better idea of what my image edits will look like on paper vs the screen. With the Selphy far more of my images find their way to paper and that's a good thing.
