@@thedocileme4321 Good ol' Neech has a tendency to make people depressed and nihilistic. AJ Soprano is a good fictional example of what happens when very young men read my friend, Neech. His work was a good help to me in my undergrad days, but until you see nihilism as a stepping stone toward belief in something real, then you will find yourself believing that Neech didn't see any point to believing in anything. My professor put it like this: "Nietzsche is the most misunderstood man who ever lived."

I haven't read much of Neitzche. I encountered "Neitzche - A Reader" in a physiotherapists waiting room. There I encountered someone who'd written many things I felt were reasonable conclusions or ponders, based on my knowledge and experiences at the time. This was someone who wrote down ideas, questions and assertions I had, during times of intellectual escapisms. I hadn't encountered philosophy before to be honest, just a mature student studying business management concepts as widely as possible with an openness to factual or experiential work; having a bad time in life and personally trying to conceive of a workable truth that eschewed religion, embraced science and explained culture around me and gave a way to find a pathway out. 😊

I graduated with my undergrad in Philosophy a few years ago and yes I did read Nietzsche because I wanted to. I would agree it is probably not a good sign haha but in the in long run, very beneficial. Even if you do not agree with the premises, judgements and or criticisms Nietzsche comes to in regard to culture, christianity and society there is a lot to learn from and admire about him simply in respect to how he stuck to his ideas, was not afraid to put them forth and refused to compromise as Dr. Sugrue remarks. On another note, I could only wish to have the grasp of the western tradition and the oratory skills of Dr. Sugrue.

I just read one of your comments below describing your simple lifestyle and your acceptance of the fact that your brain is becoming "swiss cheese". I would agree that it is quite strange and unproductive for people to "hail lord Sugrue". However, I would like to mention that your lectures have been a great experience for me. I'm a busy psychology and pre-medical undergraduate student who is very interested in philosophy, but simply has not had time to take more than 1 or 2 courses in philosophy, and the reading I do in my freetime is mostly focused on psychololgy. Your philosophy lectures, along with some others on the internet, have been a great pleasure to listen to, and have slowly but surely contributed to the little bits of information interwoven in my mind. It has been a pleasure having your lectures and monologues on the internet for free. I do not hail you, I do not praise you, but I do thank you.

Nietzsche sneaks into your consciousness like a lil devil. I love your sound wisdom and judgement.

When you referenced falling in every direction and brought up interstellar space, it reminded me of the novel Starmaker by Olaf Stapledon. If you haven’t read it, I think you would really enjoy the finely crafted philosophical journey which is presented in those pages.
