Excellent video, very well done. I like the diagram on the side showing the locations of everything as you walked through. Now, if Holland America could add something to the ship to keep people from being bored for the whole cruise, then they would have something. The decor is beautiful, but it looks like a snooze fest.
@CruisingCanucks2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. It’s certainly a different pace and more classic cruising. What do you think they would need to add to their ships to make them more engaging?
@Dave-cv8yb2 жыл бұрын
@@CruisingCanucks At the very minimum, I would suggest waterslides. I'm not saying that they should copy Royal or Norwegian completely, but I believe that they need more "active" entertainment on board. Being that the wife and I are only in our mid fifties, I could see us bored on a Holland ship. Now, with that being said, Holland would be the perfect cruise line for an Alaskan or Norwegian fjords cruise, where everything is about the scenery and the peace and quiet.
@CruisingCanucks2 жыл бұрын
For sure there were evenings where we felt like we wanted a 'little more' to keep us fully entertained. The lack of frequent or production shows in the main theatre certainly left a gap - we also like a comedy club and more solo musicians around the ship. Pre-dinner music was lacking. We kind of feel stuck a little between the Carnival crowd and Holland America crowd. We are curious to see if Princess fills the void. For sure Holland America is focused on the destination based cruises and really isn't positioning itself for partying in the Caribbean -but it offers that in the winter when the more exotic locations are inaccessible.

They weren't warm, but they warm enough for us Canadians to get into. So maybe heated a bit??? Not sure - they felt about the same temperature as the ocean during the beach days.

Hi there. Fellow Canadian here. My husband and I are in our early 50s and have heard Holland has an older crowd. Although we don’t enjoy the “party” scene we also don’t want to be bored. Thoughts?
@CruisingCanucks2 жыл бұрын
We thought the same before our first Holland America cruise but we’re pleasantly surprised. It seems the newer ships attract a younger crowd (close to your age) and have a little more nightlife. We aren’t huge partiers but enjoyed time at the music venues dancing and listening to music. Also there were a few shows (not great) that broke up the time between music venues. Timing also matters. Holidays and summers attract a younger crowd - as do the 7 day cruises (longer ones seem to have an older crowd) Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for this great tour! We’re taking it out of Ft Lauderdale next winter. Do you recommend flying in the day before? Right now our flight lands at 1 PM on the day of sailing but we could change it. Does anyone have a favorite hotel in Fort Lauderdale?
@CruisingCanucks2 жыл бұрын
Wow! Day of Sailing flights - especially during Winter are crazy risky. Most people are already on the ship by 1pm, and you will just be arriving. With airport delays and winter weather concerns we always book the day before right now. As for hotels - good luck. FLL hotels are notoriously expensive. Decent hotels often start at $200 and go up quickly. Many are old hotels but a few new ones have popped up at Dania Beach. The Hilton Marina is nice (we've heard but no stayed there) but is very expensive. Most offer airport shuttles. We have yet to find one specific hotel that we like for both price and condition.

@CruisingCanucks2 жыл бұрын
We never noticed any pay extra challenges. There’s the speciality restaurants if you want but we had amazing food in the dining room for free. We found many more pay extra challenges on NCL and Royal. We rarely pay extra for anything on a cruise and that’s why HAL is one of our favs.
@scottsworld2 жыл бұрын
@@CruisingCanucks good to know, thank U.
@WrightWorld2 жыл бұрын
Compared to other lines, not so much. You will pay extra for the specialty restaurants: Rudi's, Pinnacle, Tamarind, and Canaletto as well as the sushi bar, and for gelato, specialty coffees, and booze. The Dive-In burger place, the Grand Dutch Cafe, and the NY Deli and Pizza are included with the fare along with the buffet and main dining room. Many other lines charge extra for pretty much everything but the buffet and main dining room. There are no upcharges for VR games, laser tag, or go-karts, because those kinds of activities are not offered on the ship in the first place -- which is perfectly fine with me. The price for a private cabana seems a bit steep to me, but happy to hear the loungers on deck 13 are probably going to be very private anyway and totally free.

I appreciate all the detail. I'd love to know more about the differences between the HAL ships and what is missing from one ship class to another. Does the ship play a key role in what cruise you take?
@CruisingCanucks2 жыл бұрын
We have only done the two most recent classes of Holland America ships and they are very similar. We have heard that the older ships are much different in design but we have not first hand experience - yet. With other cruise lines we certainly do choose specific ships over others. You kind of find those ships that fit your cruising style and feel just right.

@CruisingCanucks Жыл бұрын
