I like what Nigel says about our bloody past. The hate has been ingrained in us as a people and that does more harm to the one who harbors the hate than the one who is hated. I was watching Prof Mutambara's Conversation earlier where he stated that our leadership missed an opportunity after the coup back in 2017. I have been having this conversation in my circles and we stated that using Rwanda as an example Mr. Kagame's Government has taken accountability for the horrors of 1994 where, as a nation, they have a National Memorial Day and established the Kigali Memorial Site to commemorate this part of their countries' history. It serves the purpose of educating visitors and gives them an understanding of the sentiments leading up to these events. It is a sobering look into the countries' recent history and helps all who visit the site reconcile this part of their history as part of national healing and nation-building. I just imagine what good would have come if, in the wake of the coup the 2nd Republic actually made a sincere effort to acknowledge the horrors of Gukurahundi, establish a National Memorial Day and Site to commemorate the many Zimbabwean lives that were lost in the madness that was Gukurahundi. This definitely would have gone a long way in my view towards rehabilitating the fractious relations between us as a people.
