“I just think the sheer scale of human tragedy, there ought to be negotiations.”
Nigel Farage tells Times Radio the West should give Putin an ultimatum and for Russia to give up its annexed Ukrainian territory, “I don't think Russia giving up what they've taken in the last couple of years would be a problem.”

Sorry, Putin will not (be able to) change, otherwise he would have to destroy the grandiose mafia system he has built up over decades. Putin is influenced by the KGB, like all his comrades, who he needed to be able to consolidate his power. He even didn't stop at the Russian Orthodox Church. "Nothing" is sacred to him. She was very confrontational and did not allow him to speak at all. And that comes from an American and supposedly we are more aggressive/ruder than you guys soooo 😅 I would say that that lady that was giving the interview should have chilled out and allowed him to respond instead of attacking him and expecting a negative reaction caught on film. What was even the point of having him in an interview they weren't going to let him answer his questions. Give the guy a chance to finish his sentence. That was disrespectful and rude.

Farage=Salvini and Forza Italia (Berlusconi) was pro-putin too. Moreover, Farage defended Berlusconi in the European parliament. All this has nothing to do with immigration, but all to do with divide and conquer by the Kremlin. Italy should know this as before the collapse of the CCCP PD was being financed, now it's the same thing, but financing the above mentioned and you can include Germany's ADF and France's Le Pen... I agree with you in principle, but "US and European inaction" should be put in context. It wasn't complete inaction, but it wasn't strong enough to deter Russia's subsequent action. There were sanctions, for example, and Russia was ejected from the G8, as it then was, causing it to revert to being the G7. It's notable that Putin had no "problem" with the G8 when he was "in the club"; having been ejected, he's dead-set against it. And Farage is completely wrong to say he is the only one who predicted war in Ukraine. The initial invasion (the seizing of Crimea and much of the Donbas) had already happened when he made that speech, so war was already going on (along the "line of contact" between Ukraine and the Russian forces in the Donbas), a conflict which Russian apologists on KZbin like to portray as Ukraine shelling its own people for eight years (from the 2014 initial Russian invasion to the 2022 full-scale Russian invasion). All manner of steps were being taken, by numerous bodies, to try to prevent a full-scale war. You don't take steps to try to prevent a war if you don't think a war is on the cards. So Farage was certainly not alone. The then German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, for example, has gone on record as saying that, in the Minsk agreements, she and President François Hollande of France had not been able to negotiate a lasting peace agreement, but at least had been able to "buy time" for Ukraine to strengthen its armed forces in preparation for the 2022 invasion. (A statement also misrepresented by Russian apologists, who present it as a confession of having negotiated insincerely, while all the time intending to renege -- the fact is Russia did not comply with what it has agreed to.) And western countries started providing support to Ukraine, helping strengthen civil society, helping tackle corruption and strengthening the armed forces. All of these actions point to the fact that a range of people foresaw war, and, with that possibility in mind, had taken actions to try to avert it. Farage wasn't alone by any means. That those actions were insufficient to deter Putin does not detract from the fact that they, too, foresaw the possibility. As for Farage's latest proposals, in the current interview, where he says the west should tell Putin to get out... well, what does he think a whole raft of people were telling Putin in the lead-up to the full-scale invasion? Remember Putin's ridiculous table with him at one end and President Macron of France at the other? As usual, Farage only has his simplistic "instant solutions".

@@chrisinkles5857 You should look up Ukraine's "Revolution of Dignity" or "Euromaidan" if you want an explanation of that. And also Putin's essay "On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians" on the Kremlin's own web site (in English), in which he lays out the path to the full-scale invasion, based on incorrect historical "facts", denying Ukraine's right to be an independent, sovereign state. "NATO expansion" is also a Putin re-writing of history, for, pre-Putin (and, possibly, a few years into Putin's ascendency), Russia itself was on a course which could have seen it become a NATO member. No complaints, at that time, that "eastward expansion of NATO is a danger to Russia" or that, "you promised not to expand eastwards"; that's all Putin's invention. Inventions Farage has clearly taken hook line and sinker.

Farage, how can you even suggest that Ukrainians should negotiate with Russia at this stage? You love Churchill so much. Would you advise him to negotiate with the Nazis when they started to fly over London or possibly the day the Normandy landing happened in 1944 and sign surrender that day? Think before you speak. Good, you did not say Poland should give Putin a bit of its land to make him happy, which would not surprise me.

Mr Farage, you have a way with words that is extraordinary and I think you should try to speak directly to President Putin and if I were in your place, I would choose this as my argument in trying to make President Putin change his mind about continuing with the Ukraine conflict. Nigel, what is really going on here is that ideologies are smashing like pumpkins and both sides keep pointing fingers and rattling sabers to no avail. But what I would say to President Putin is to ask him to walk in our moccasins for a fortnight and understand that all we stand for in the west is in the balance, because we cannot now or ever allow a greater country to overtake and annex territory i.e., conquer another sovereign country. I would say to President Putin, that we would love to help him out, but it's like asking a Muslim to give up on Mohammad being the right hand of God and believe in Odin, for example. Why do I say this? Because the Russians have got us all wrong; we only want to have Ukraine remain a sovereign country and nothing else. But what is tragic is that the Russians do not seem to understand that we cannot back down or else everything we stand for goes the way of the Dodo.
