He seems like he'd be a really mellow guy too IRL. One of those kinds of people that it's hard to ever get them angry. I guess that's a good thing considering what his assignment was in the military. @@yyyy12344 I just took it to mean that he tries to remain positive, even when there are setbacks and tactical defeats. It helps to keep morale up and to remind everyone not to focus too much on negative things, like every time Russia crows about taking another village (some of them with a pre-war population of less than 100 people), or every time there is another destroyed Leopard 2 or Abrams tank in Ukraine, but rather on the ultimate goal of restoring the 1991 borders. (Things might not exactly work out that way when everything is said and done but so long that's the official position of the Ukrainian government it's important that those around the world who support it do what they can to help them achieve that goal.)

Jake is one of the heroes of Ukraine's fight for freedom, the right to independence and sovereignty that the West and Russia promised it after 1991. Jake is a living legend full of commonsense and resilience, very articulate and steadfast in his moral conviction just as much as Zelensky who stood up in Ukraine's hour of need, imitated Churchill despite all the odds and said no, we will fight for our honour and freedom, and became overnight the greatest leader of the 21st Century. Putin's war to suppress Ukraine's independence and sovereignty is a clear issue of right versus wrong, no ifs or buts, and Russia's barbarity, inhumanity and constant war crimes simply make things worse and harden attitudes. Almost the entirety of the UN General Assembly voted to oppose and condemn Russia's war on Ukraine without a transparent lawful cause. Maybe as American Jake knows history and the value of international law and those of humanity, sees some parallel with the USA's fight for independence from a decadent imperial power and bully. I have always agreed with Jake with a few nuances, Ukraine may win the war of attrition, just like Vietnam beat the USA or trump conceded defeat in Afghanistan, bolted and ran as being not worth the cost. But Russia faces 3 distinct wars over Ukraine, the military conflict, the geopolitical isolation and the most severe, the economic ruin of Russia. Putin cannot win any of these despite his KGB-type quite effective, widespread propaganda that Hitler's Goebbels would be proud of. It is the economy that will ruin Russia's future long term and despite the West not wishing to destabilise or cripple Russia, break up the Russian Federation but Putin's evil and intransigence simply makes things worse and more dire for Russia. To the West, Russia is not that important or significant, merely a bad, unwise investment in retrospect, never to be repeated. To Russia, the 70 country developed, wealthy democratic Western Alliance that comprises 50% of the global economy and the source of most sophisticated modern technology, goods and services, the sanctions and long term isolation is the death of the Russian economy. Like no country can survive and thrive in the modern world isolated and ignored by the West. Putin's threats of nuclear war against the USA and Europe, threats of invading Europe have only initiated a new long term Cold War hostility likely lasting decades with no, zero easy fix. Europe has embarked on a major new, very expensive Arms Race to strengthen and modernise their NATO militaries, to counter Russia's threats and to adapt new technologies from lessons of paradigm shift from the Ukraine battlefield. Poland's defence spending is eye-wateringly high, billions being spent on US, European and South Korean weaponry. The old Cold War mentality and attitudes have re-surfaced, provocations and confrontations, sabre rattling, subversion and undermining, plus a whole new Iron Curtain of closed, fortified borders. Sad but true, a terrible waste! Finland and Sweden didn't break nearly 100 years of neutrality for nothing! None of this is easy or quick to resolve, there is no easy simple solution to change attitudes and public opinion. Trust has been broken and it is very difficult to perceive things returning to pre-2014 "norms". Like divorce, it is usually ugly, unpleasant, costly, unconstructive and clearly permanent! Putin has shot Russia in the foot, then leg, groin, guts, chest and head! He may be the richest man in the World and indicted war criminal but he has ruined Russia's future for generations, especially if the Russian Federation splits like the Soviet Union in 1991, China and Japan squabble over how much of the Far East territory and resources they reclaim, and Iran sponsors the 5 big resource rich but undeveloped poor Islamic Stans of Central Asia to embrace Iran's big caliphate empire dream. Ultimately the West will never tolerate Russia being a credible military power again. Kudos to Jake, Slava Ukraini from Australia that has loaned AWACS to help protect NATO's skies, all part of the international effort to help Ukraine defend its Motherland

Which is also very interesting. Since the beginning of the war, Putin has repeatedly said that the sanctions are not a problem for Russia, they only make it stronger. But in his latest speeches, suddenly a condition for a ceasefire is that the sanctions are lifted. And he is not alone in this; other senior politicians are also suddenly demanding that the sanctions be lifted. Apparently they have realised that they will not make Russia stronger, but will sooner or later choke off the Russian economy completely.

Initially things were not too bad, infact blooming because all money put into building up the war effort would have filtered through. Then some gains would have been made by who ever took over the businesses that pulled out of Russia. They made money on the grain they stole from occupied Ukraine and sold the homes belonging to the Ukrainians forced out of these areas to Russians at knock down prices. Mainly as part of their ethnic cleansing plan, but also gaining revenue. But now it is becoming trickier to hide from his Russians the lack of money available for infrastructure maintenance. Home heating systems, crumbling dams, especially away from Moscow and St. Petersburg in the eastern Regions where most of their troops are recruited from.

@@grahortarg9933 To understand his views and analysis, you need to have the same information as him: Many Russian soldiers aren't beeing payed, many families of Russian soldiers already adress videos to the kreml to get their man back, inflation is Russia is much bigger than in the west, soldiers on the front aren't properly equipped no weapons no water no food, all these missing men aren't servicing Russian infrastructure anymore leading to exploding pipes flooding of whole cities, muslims inside Russia that were oppressed for decades are starting terrorist attacks, and so on There are already many civil issues that Russia has, that they didn't have in the past. And these issues keep getting more and getting more extreme as times go on. And all of that will start to increase exponentially, when Russia cannot stabilize the Rubel anymore because they don't have western money for their buyback programms. Everything will keep getting worse for Russia and with hyperinflation the speed of this will become insane. Therefore Russia will collape at some point (again), it is only a question of time. Could be this year, could be 5 years from now. A likely candidate is the end of 2025, because that's when some military assets can not be replaced anymore, but we will see. Russia is collapsing all the time. And usually the reason is a failed war or military buildup. It will just be annother entry in that long list.

Asides from the economic front, ethnic separatism could be another major factor which could disrupt Russia's internal stability, as recent events in Dagestan and Bashkortostan indicate. There is clearly a will for independence in some ethnic republics, and considering how distracted and weakened Russia's armed forces are by the war in Ukraine, now would be the perfect time and opportunity for separatist movements to strike and have a go at it. Doubtful they would get another opportunity like this in the foreseeable future. Things might get interesting in Russia in the near future, to say the least. It remains to be seen if Russia will be able to keep its empire which is cracking at the seams from falling apart. With the war in Ukraine and Russian anti-Putinist paramilitary groups fighting against Kremlin forces in Russia itself, having to deal with possibly multiple separatist movements and yet several more fronts on its own soil on top of it all, all at the same time, would be disastrous for Russia in the weakened state it is currently in.

As a white South African, we experienced the strictest sanctions on any country in the world ever during the Apartheid years. Sanctions were applied: 1. All sources of Finance were closed and loans called immediately. 2. All flights, trade via air or harbours were stopped. 3. All cultural, sports and civil contact were stopped. 4. All trade was stopped. 5. Terrorist attacks on South Africa were increased. 6. SA’s status in the UN was restricted. 7. The sanctions were policed and countries braking them punished. This caused hyper inflation which eventually made Apartheid too expensive to keep.

There is no way, Russia can be stopped from resurrecting its tsaristic empire during the next decades. Europe is too weak, disunited, demilitarized and deindustrialized to project enough military power, the US under future president Trump will force Ukraine into capitulation and make the way free for Russia to take the Moldova, Baltic Nations, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria - and many more. Additionally, the west is going to all lengths to prevent a military confrontation with Russia, because it can not sacrifice its economical normality due to lack of money. Russia however has strong allies, like China, Iran and North Korea - all united against the West. And due to its war economy, military power of Russia becomes stronger and stronger. Month by month. We have already reached the point of cognitive dissonance: Everybody is enjoyed and happy about the victory of Ukraine in the border region of Kharkov, but nobody wants to be aware of the fact, Russia takes mile by mile new ground in the eastern part of Ukraine. Putin has simply outsmarted the West with a feint attack in the northern east, because the delirium of joy makes many western politician believe, no more weapons were required. The big astonishment will take place in one or two years (if not earlier), when Russia will have arrived in Dnipro city and nobody has an idea, how this could happen.

Something important to know, for all who interested in history and/or support Ukraine: Rus' ought not to be confused with modern “Russia”, which derives its name from the Rus' but historically is a completely different state, which almost all its existence was at war with the Rus'. Just like the Holy Roman Empire was actually Germany, “Russia” is actually Muscovy, despite their best attempts to convince everybody otherwise. Its name “Russia" received only in the 18th century, when Peter I simply changed Muscovy’s name into the “All Russian Empire” (Russia originates from Rosia, name used by the Greek Orthodox Clergy in regards to Rus') Under the reign of Cathrine II Muscovites where even punished for continuing to identify as Muscovites, and were forced to call themselves Russian. Lands that Russia (Muscovy) claims were part of the original Rus', but actually weren't, are Novgorod, Suzdal, and Ryazan, since in historical texts of XI-XII centuries they are mentioned as separate entities from Rus'. They can be considered parts of extended Rus', although their culture was distinct from main Rus'. In 1493, Muscovite duke Ivan III appointed himself to be the Great Ruler of All Rus'. No other kings acknowledged that. From that point on Muscovy started to make false claims on Rus' ownership. “Russia” is an offshoot of Ukraine and not the other way round, despite what Soviet and Russian (Muscovite) historians have been trying to say for years. A Slavicised Finnic, then later, Mongolized offshoot. Kyiv was a developed cultured capital when Moscow was just another swamp village. Moreover, in the Italian sources of the 15th century it is likewise mentioned, that Russia is bordered by Poland to the west, Lithuania and Livonia to the north, and *Muscovy* to the east, further proving that Russia historically speaking, is an exonym of Ukraine, that was stolen by Muscovy. Germany used to call itself the Holy Roman Empire, that didn’t mean they became the Romans, and all of a sudden had a right to claim whole of Italy and its history, but yet, that’s exactly what Russia (Muscovy) did in regards to Rus'-Ukraine, which is a horrible injustice!
