People can smoke if they want. But you shouldn't interfere with other people's lives. A lot of people are against smoking and have asthma and breathing problems. Shouldn't they have the freedom to walk around without breathing in second hand smoke? This is the thing with people who chant "freedom of speech" or "freedom of choice". Whilst yes you can do and say what you want. (within reason) So can everyone else. If you say something along the lines of "everyone with glasses should die" then expect everyone with glasses to come back at you. They also have freedom of speech.

Smokers have to already leave their belongings (might be easier if with people) but if you're alone. These rules mean. You have to leave your belongings. To walk to what is the legal perimeter of the law? Outside the pub? Car park? Etc. I think currently it works. I mean if your pub has a huge beer garden. Have a section for non smokers, and then a section for smokers. I don't mind that. But to banish smokers fully from pubs. Will not only effect them economically. But the social side of things too.

I escaped to Thailand 15 years ago. Lovely weather, literally half the cost to live outside the tourist areas. It's very safe to live here and the people here are happy and friendly. Plus, it's less than £2 for a pack of cigarettes if you're a smoker.

Yes, my first thought was it's a vengeance ban too (since the scene with him being thrown out of a pub was old news - suddenly attracting online attention again. This followed by Jeremy Clarkson declaring a ban on him too). The timing is just too much of a coincidence. So, what next? Alcohol? Perhaps Starmer will initiate a compulsory purchase of pubs to convert them into 'hotels.' I still keep hoping I'm going to wake up and find out this is all some awful nightmare. I'm a smoker and I enjoy a cigarette. I have a friend whose dad used to love going to the pub, play a game of dominos with his friends, have a smoke and had the time of his life. When "BLIAR" banned smoking in pubs, in 2007, her dad stopped going out and became very lonely - he was a widower and the pub and his friends were his life. Despite being a smoker, he was a fit and healthy man. He died six months later and not of any smoking related diseases. This is just one person and it must have affected many. No wonder so many pubs closed after "BLIAR" did this dirty trick!!!

If not being able to smoke inside, which does effect others who also want to enjoy socialising and a drink, stops someone from going out to do that, then it wasn't really the socialising they were there for. Smoking was obviously more important so it was their choice and the cigarettes 'were his life'. The law is the law unfortunately. Have a fag outside and then back to the socialising perhaps? If you are trying link one person passing away due to the smoking ban ruining their opportunityto socialise, I'd say that is pretty far fetched. Roy Castle died after having never smoked because his job was at venues full of smokers. I bet he wished the smoking ban had come in a long time ago. I'd say the smoking ban has probably saved a lot of people who don't smoke from dying of smoking related illness.

As a long term smoker myself, even I could appreciate the rationale behind banning smoking in indoor public places. I didn't like it, but it I understood the rationale & it made sense. Banning smoking outside does not make any sense at all. I will not comply & anybody that confronts me for smoking outdoors, are free to call the police. I was a pub landlord before and after the ban (2007). I had a successful business, less than 2yrs the business collapsed. I was forced by the brewery to give it up. So many other pubs also failed.
