Here in Ireland 🇮🇪 we’re quite happy with our membership in the EU and we’re proud to be part of the EU and brexit has proven that our friends and fellow members of the EU actually do stand with and support Ireland 🇮🇪. I’ve no problem with Britain outside of the EU in fact I believe e in the EU will be better for it because we’re not going to be seeing the likes of farage who doesn’t really turn up for work but is always there to collect his wages and even now he’ll collect his pensions from the EU that the British public are paying for. But as I said I have no problem with Britain outside of the EU as the British want to be rulers whereas the EU is about working together for the better of the people of people the EU . The days of the empire are over because show me a good empire and I’ll show you a liars and god knows what we are seeing in Westminster is just shocking , Where minsters and the prime minister actually stand up and tell openly lies and where a young lady stands up and tells the truth she’s banned for Westminster grounds for being honest. As regards farage he has never done anything for Ireland 🇮🇪 in his life unless we count his money that he withdrew from Britain and put into Irish bank account and god and only knows where he’s put that now it could be anywhere in the world. No farage we Irish are very happy with our friends in the EU who have helped Ireland 🇮🇪 become a better place to live in, We are seeing our children staying in Ireland 🇮🇪 getting jobs here in Ireland 🇮🇪. This tax he’s on about is happening all over nothing to do with the EU it’s happening in Britain too and they are not in the EU what should have been pointed out to him but this is what farage does all the time. Let’s remember it was farage who said that Britain should have private health care insurance because the nhs can’t afford to threat people as it is . If anyone actually finds that stream you’re actually going to hear a lonely woman say yes which I will take it she wants private health care insurance brought into Britain. To hear anyone in Britain saying that is disgraceful and disgusting. She should be ashamed of herself but as for farage well he doesn’t care it’s that simple

History lesson for Mr. Farage. Ireland achieved independence one hundred years ago. Initially this was an absolute disaster - exacerbated by the Civil War. It took 50 years for Ireland to get to the next step. Eventually, Ireland figured out that it needed to be attached to something, which was the EU. Since 1973 Ireland has prospered (with some ups and downs). Our language was also taken from us again if you were caught speaking our own language it meant death. Our land was taken away from us which was really ethnic cleansing of the Irish people because greedy landlords and others wanted Irish people gone from the land. While Irish troops fought in World War One during the Easter raising churchhill stop the Irish troops pay which meant that their families had no way to pay for food or even their rent which only hurt these same Irish troops who were fighting and dying for Britain . Now dare in mind many many Irish people serve Britain in many different ways. Yet while these Irish people were actually serving they were treating their families with total contempt. Do I think everyone in Britain is like this no I don’t but what really needs to happen is that British people are taught what really happened in Ireland 🇮🇪. Remember this and this really sums up a lot of problems with Ireland 🇮🇪 when the Irish people wanted home rule the hard core unionist even armed themselves against Irish home rule why ??? Because they didn’t want to have home rule in Ireland 🇮🇪 because it would mean that Irish people would have been able to change rules to better people and it’s simple to see how Irish people were treated so badly in their own country just imagine if Ireland 🇮🇪 had got home rule would Ireland 🇮🇪 be still in with Britain who knows but the unionist or should I say the real hard core unionist didn’t want home rule but as soon as Ireland 🇮🇪 became independent these unionist ran in the doors of Westminster demanding home rule and would not accept any thing else. Why There was almost nine million people in Ireland 🇮🇪 before these unionist starve the Irish now about 3 million stayed in Ireland 🇮🇪 and about 3 million people moved all over this planet and about 3 million were starve now these would be rough figures and many of the 3 million Irish people moved to Scotland England and I’m sure Wales got a few too many change their name by dropping the o from names and so on but for many people they felt safer in Britain away from these hard core unionist. @@Raggman42 that's a lot of ground to cover but I appreciate all the effort. I'm Irish again and reasonably well-read...so a great many historical facts are known to me. First principals to start. Principal no 1...all states act in their own perceived self-interest. Principal no 2...there are no good guys at this level of political analysis. Principal no 3...no states borders are fixed by anything other than conflict. That said... Sir Walter Raleigh brought the potato and Cronwell bought the cabbage...the pigs were already here...and so what is universally regarded as the basic "Irish dinner"...is a UK import. True also for the "country" itself a British construct...Ireland before the British was an island of warlords...the invitation of one the starting point of 800 years of "British involvement" The nation-state is a modern construct and is fundamentally based on shared values... That most certainly includes things like language & faith...hence the British desire to "simplify" the many different options available throughout the British isles. (Ok I know it's a great deal more complex than that...but it is a comment section) Irish history is long and complex...but that statement is also true for our next-door neighbour. All Brexiteers kept that little problem under their hats. I don't know how HE dare come out with the crap he spreads : eg. His Brexit bus lies and his pre Brexit positive comments on British fishing waters. He gives figures on foreign workers leaving England who obviously didn't want to apply to stay after being given the chance. Who wants to stay in a country that clearly shows that certain foreign workers are not welcome except of course the very well educated or rich ones!!? Nowhere here in Germany do you see the chaos that is going on in England. There is a shortage of drivers everywhere, but drivers here pass from country to country without bigotted poliically inspired exclusions of"undesirables" and we don't see any shortages on supermarket shelves. I would love to see somebody like Farage put on the receiving end of his type of bigotted racism, putting him in the same position as other fellow human beings seeking refuge. I fear that his banker's wheeling and dealing and populist ability to pull the wool over people's eyes will at least keep him safe from all of that. He makes no appology to the farmers now having to cull animals, fishermen in dire Straits, or Cornwall lacking EU aid (1 billion pounds received from the EU over 15 years!)!Johnson is not going to reimburse the missing 100 m pounds needed to replace this EU funding despite pre Brexit promises that he would do so. Nigel may well be clueless about Ireland, but he accidentally hit on some truths. - The people who benefitted the most from Irelands, involvement in the EU were middle and upper class urbanites - The people who benefitted the least were the fishing communities, who were sold out twice by the Irish government. (Sadly many of the communities sustained by the fishing trade were Irish speaking communities who lost one of the few employment opportunities available to them which didn't require emigration or knowledge of the English language. To this day Gaeltacht areas, or Gwaletuckt areas as urbanites would call them, still have the highest numbers of emigration and rural poverty in the country). Switzerland voted against joining the EU in order to protect its farmers livelihoods from the extra competition and challenges the EU membership would have posed. They also voted against it to protect their system of direct democracy whereby the areas/communes within the 26 cantons vote and make the decisions on every little thing to do with their area, right all the way up to the Federal level (i.e. the people make the decisions, as opposed to simply electing a government to be 'in power' which then 'acts on our behalf'). I believe that the EU was good for Ireland overall, and it could continue to be good for Ireland, but the negative effects of the EU were not felt by Ireland's upper middle classes or by most urbanites. People like Claire have to realise that not everybody benefitted to the same extent as the 'marbles in their mouths "weren't we all spending way beyond our means in the Celtic Tiger years" classes of Irish society' - (coincidentally it's people from this class who form the bulk of Irelands national media organisations, as evidenced by the accents). My ideal EU would be one in which a Swiss style direct democracy was practiced. Real democracy, as opposed to a top-down representative bureaucracy. But whether Ireland is in or out of the EU, I'm not sure I can see this happening (unless the uniting of Northern Ireland and the Republic brings such a solution into play as part of a creative reimagining and restructuring of the country) due to the aggressively centralising tendencies and reluctance to share any power of the Dublin based Neo-Liberal, foreign direct investment loving (destroyed a lot of the homegrown trades and small businesses around the country) government.
@fintonmainz78452 жыл бұрын
Waffle. Switzerland has to accept the rules of the EU without having a say. You can argue the case for fishing, which was always going to be a tiny minority but EU membership has benefited all social classes in Irish society.
@cigh74452 жыл бұрын
@@fintonmainz7845 Ah, no, Switzerland is not in the EU and has it's own tailored trade arrangements with the EU (of course it has ties with Germany, Italy and France in particular), in a similar way to countries such as Norway. I agree that EU membership has benefitted most classes of people in Ireland, my point is that there have been 'cons' as well as pros, which the classes who benefitted the most seem to be completely blind to. We need to recognise why some people 'might' (currently these people are a minority) develop views against the EU, or we could easily end up sleepwalking into our own Brexit situation down the line. Ideally the EU would become more democratic, as proposed by the Diem25 movement.

Nigel suddenly worried about HGV drivers .😂😂 this guy is hoping to speak to the idiots to trigger an Irish exit of EU so they can control us again.

Irish economy is nothing without the UK and the US. The EU is completely useless for Ireland apart from sending you fake refugees you will feed with your taxes.

@@marcellop3163 actually import from Ireland to mainland Europe have been steadily increasing. Ireland is not as reliant as previously thought and has managed to mitigate many of the expected impacts of Brexit thus far. I have business based her and in the UK and shipping is a nightmare. Nearly all the manufacturers we deal with the UK relocated to Germany and Italy. I dont benefit if the UK does badly. I will actually lose money but I wont pretend Brexit is a success ot that Ireland would benefit from leaving. This will go down in history as one of the biggest blunders of the UK. There's no winners on either side but Britain has essentially decided to dump its closest friends in the hopes of making penpals in Asia. 😂 also immigrants in thr UK and Ireland have been net contributors for many years. You are a bit simple and patriotic so in simple terms it means they give more money on average to the economy and government than they take out. Also reports show that without immigration our economy's can not continue to grow. You fear change and I feel bad for you. Not too late to educate yourself and change self destructive habits. Best of luck buddy.

@@alannewman85 Why is she a heroine? She asked a string of questions which Nigel answered very competently and thoroughly. I agree with Nigel that the Republic of Ireland sold off its independence to Brussels. Dublin has to do the the bidding of the EU. Sovereignty resides in Brussels. So sad.
@geoffm99442 жыл бұрын
‘Put him in his place.’ You must be living in a parallel universe!’ He answered all her questions carefully, thoughtfully and sensibly. He challenged her on the so called joys of being an EU member. The fact is that Ireland has sold its sovereignty to Brussels.

@@geoffm9944 Because it’s high time charlatans like Farage are called out for what they represent - populism and ignorance. You paint a picture of Brussels as a modern day British Empire. (That’s not a good picture. Remember- 1/2 the country STARVED TO DEATH under the ‘Union’. In the meantime the plantations destabilised N.I. leading to the current situation in case you’d ‘forgotten’ those facts.) The fact is we are a small population on the periphery of Europe and that dictates certain trading patterns. Ireland has done well in the EU where we elect own MEP’s to that Parliament DIRECTLY. There just isn’t any of the sentiment Farage claims. Neither is there any of the benefits of Brexit. I hope I am wrong but I believe the UK and the millions of people misled by Cameron, Johnson and Farage are going to find that out the hard way.

I am a native of the Republic of Ireland and I agree with everything Nigel Farage is saying and I am not the only one. You don't speak for all of us Mrs. Byrne. Nigel Farage is a man of unrivalled passion and intellect and there is not a single person in the Dáil close to him.

I suppose we left one empire to join another. I think that we as a nation don't have the confidence or the guts to go it alone. Maybe most of us know this deep down but don't really care......!

@ MarkAntony - Byrne did stick it to Farage here, his ignorance of Irish history is apparent to anyone that's taken even a passing interest in it. He's a sophist of the first order.

One thing that is becoming very apparent is that whether its Trump, Johnson or Farage they seem to be very uncomfortable being interviewed by women.

Giving this buffoon air-time is like asking an infant school art teacher to come on and do a 15 minute spot on the nuances of particle physics at Cern. (My full respect to all art teachers, as they are useful members of society. No respect to Mr. Farage as he is totally useless for anything at all).
