Nigel Kennedy is a musical genius. Every song he plays he pours everything he has into it. If you are a music lover, especially classical music, we are very fortunate to have lived during his time and get to witness him playing.

They've never come close to this performance before or since. The definitive live version of this song.

@John o'neill Sorry, if the violin solo doesn't nail it note for note there's no way the band or the audience ever gets back to 1971. I think that's why Pete more or less insists on having a young, attractive, contemporary and very accomplished violinist who doesn't just play the notes but really captures the essence and feeling of the song in the Who's more recent performances. BTW: Greetings from 1971.

Stunning. The look on Daltreys face is pure admiration and I'll swear Nigel is saying at the end "Rog I nailed it".

Dale Edwards Roger really Is loving it isn’t he. It was special. True punk. Real rock. I’m so lucky to say I was there. I showed the dvd to some friends and they just naturally stood and applauded at the end of this. The Who’s final renaissance. I think their part in the concert for NY was their swan song. Never had that power again.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest tracks of all time, but the trouble is there is nothing else one can listen to after it. They were in a world of their own which will never come again.

In my humble opinion the greatest piece of rock music ever recorded. And as for this version? Speechless!! The Rhino's incredible bass playing! Daltrey looking on in awe of the string playing and Townsend screaming "F^^k Off !! Love It!

Nige is one of my favourite musicians. He puts the same energy and vitality into his playing whether he is performing Bach. Beethoven. Jazz or here with The Who

I was there lucky me. I get chills and goosebumps watching it now, nearly 16 years later. NK played to the true spirit of this song. They had such fun. The ehole night was magic and its the best version of Drowned I've ever seen.

on bbc R 4 Nigel Kennedy just described the voice of Operatic soprano resembles “ a bellowing Cow on speed “ . I definitely agree with this comparison although if he was referring to a specific singer it could be a bit harsh unless he knows her personally

Kennedy launches this song into the stratosphere. Anyone know if The Who ever performed it live with another violinist? Roger usually plays great harmonica on the coda, and it does make this performance truly special, but I'm surprised they don't coordinate more guest appearances with other violinists.
@OlafProt6 жыл бұрын
MinstrelOnTheRun I was there and to my knowledge this is the only time. It was SO special. A really relaxed Who too. They still had that edgy ness where anything could happen, and Zak really really does them Justice.. Now sadly it’s a bit of a geriatric show. I saw them do the quadrophenia in 2013 and it was good, but the highlight truly was Tea and Theatre. Just the two of them.
