The last trip of "The Thame Time Traveller", dropping passengers off at Oxford Train Station and Thornhill Park & Ride site. This is so far the most popular Leyland Olympian running day organised by Chris Martin, with 64 people joining (that's why I only filmed between those two pick-up/drop-off points or at the front on that day). Seven Olympians were used in total - three ex-KMB 3BLs (TIL6571-73), two ECW/Leyland-bodied Leyland Olympians and two ex-Lothian long wheelbase Volvo Olympians, all with Cummins LT10/LTA10 engine and ZF Ecomat 4HP500 gearbox.
Among the three ex-KMB 3BLs used, 3BL158 was the absolute best - with very nice sounding Cummins LT10 and ZF Ecomat 4HP500 (although not original - all production 3BLs had Gardner 6LXCT and Voith DIWA 851), a familiar gearbox tune with lock-up in 1st gear (thus occasional jolts at low speed), lots of kick-downs when leaving Oxford city centre, and full-throttle thrashes along Eastern Bypass heading to Thornhill Park & Ride. It even retains the original front grille (called the "4th generation grille" by HK bus spotters), although an extra opening has been added by Kowloon Motor Bus already. Also note that it belongs to the last batch of 3BLs in KMB's fleet (3BL112-163), so it has a lengthened wheelbase (from 5434mm+1600mm to 5654mm+1600mm, thus full 12m in length), longer 4th window bay (144cm vs 122cm), enlarged upper rear window, symmetrical vents at the rear and offside engine coolant filler cap.
Thank you for watching!
