*** PS: I NEED YOUR HELP ***
My goal is to better the lives of #onemilliondogs in my lifetime. It is clearly impossible for me to do this on a one to one basis. I have seen that with around every thousand views on my videos, I get a comment or email thanking me and letting me know the video has helped. So working on that basis, I have to make videos on how to address every problem
behaviour and accumulate ONE billion views in order to help 1,000,000 dogs.
You can help me reach #onemilliondogs by (1) subscribing to my channel and (2) give this video a thumbs up - so KZbin suggests this video to more dog owners and we can help 1,000,000 dogs all over the world. Thank you so much!
*** THANK YOU ***

After reading several comments I wanted to let people know that learning these techniques could save the life of someone's Dog one day bc my dad never learned how to train any Dog. He used to drop kick his very tiny Dog that looked like a shitzu but much smaller and almost all black. My whole life my Dad was cruel to animals and little people. He never cared to learn how to train anything or anyone. So I've said all that to say once you've learned this then help others. Even if you don't have a Dog or child. ( Yes this works with them as well!) Only with Dogs you don't have to be verbal. Children need to be verbal in a gentle loving manner. Which me and my brother never got. I often teased my brother before he was 14. I'd call him like most people call aDog. Because his name was Butch. But at 14 he also took on the attacking character of the Dog and that was the end of THAT!

Thank you for your videos Nigel, they are trully refreshing! Real dogs, with real problems that we all struggle with. I particulaly love how you remind us it can take 30+ repeats, or x number of weeks, or whatever the case may be. Please continue to do this in your future videos. It reminds us to keep going in baby steps, to have realistic expectations, and to trust in the process.

O la la, those videos gives my hope. We've a mixed-Border-collie at 2 1/2 years old, he came to us 14 month old and he's not our first dog, but the first one we got problems with. Of course he's marvelous, the best in the world - at home. Yes, we do love him. We didn't know when we bought him, that he grow up outside with 7 to 9, maybe 15 dogs, except from two families he visit very short, they didn't want to keep him. He had no behaviour, was dirty, didn't even listen to "sit". He had a black broken teeth, we must let a veterinar take it away, he's tooth are very strange and sensitive. Well, our problems: he's dragging and barking at dogs he doesn't know we can hardly hold him, he's barking at home, he's watch after me and my husband and, he's very, very strong! (Well, probably was our first dog, a mixed German shepherd, must stronger, but he always followed us from the first day until he died 14 years later.) I learned, my husband and I, must learn to be patient and practice over and over again. Thanks a lot! God bless you!

Well, all I can say is, lucky you for having a large enclosed area where you can practice alone and with other dog owners and their dogs on- or off-lead. Given that precious property, training is easy-peasy. Unfortunately, such spaces are not available to 99% of us.

Rrally...a yard, a park. I mean there everywhere. You can do this in your house if u want. U don't need other dogs u can add other humans as distraction. U can use distractions during walks . Most towns and cities have dog parks. At the end of the day the bulk of training is done without distractions as they are almost always added in later.
@nigelreed
@nigelreed 2 жыл бұрын
The enclosed area was just a part of the process, however I could have done it all on lead. You even saw me resort to putting the dog back on a long lead when the dog didn't come back. You have to use some initiative and adapt it to your situation.

Amazing, incredible videos. Such understanding of canine mentality. If only this were main stream television for all dog owners to watch rather than dragging their poor pooch around or shouting their heads off, which presumably they do to their children. Well done and thankyou, by the way im fortunate enough to have two beautifully behaved dogs.

Wow I have a new puppy and I've watched a few other channels. So far this channel has made the most sense. There was one channel where the man kept saying what he thought the dog was thinking and I was like 😳. That isn't going to help me one bit even if what he says is true. Not all Dogs think alike. My puppy is the complete opposite of my other Dog that passed away. Wow I miss him so much. This puppy is roudy and I've only had him since July 21, 2020. My other boy was born in 2000. What is so neat about it is that when the first boy turned one then the year was 2001. My pup will be one in 2021! So even if I go senile... You get it! Lol.

This is going to help my black lab Loki a great deal. In my efforts to socialise him, I've inadvertently made him assume EVERY dog he sees is there to play with him... Without distractions his recall is ok, but when other dogs are present he's away if not on the lead. Your video on protective behaviour was instrumental in calming his barking out the window quickly and easily, so I'll definitely be following the teachings in this video as well. Thank you.

Thank you for your videos. They do help me. I have a rescue dog Beau, I rescued him at 8 months and he is now 14 months. He wasn't socialised as a young puppy and I have had to train him from scratch. Pulling on lead is a problem, he reacts when he sees all other dogs and wants to sniff a lot to calm himself and recall is a work in progress. Inside my home he is listening more. When I first rescued him he was mega hyper and out of control and I had to teach him to be calmer.

I have bought your book now and am about half way through it. It really makes sense to me, so thank you so much. I really want to be the best dog guardian I can possibly be for Beau and I am very determined that he will look to me to fulfill all his needs and they will all be met. I am getting there, I think, but he had so many behavioural issues when I re-homed him that fixing them takes time. His over-excitement when he sees other dogs, cats and even squirrels is getting better as I stay calm and reassure him with my body language and demeanor that there's nothing to worry about and I am using your heel technique from your video. And he barks at home when he hears an unfamiliar noise outside but I say thank and go check it out and that really works. I bought your book for a friend also.

I’m a socialiser for an assistance dog charity & I like your training methods & the videos you make. It’s important that we prepare the puppies with all the basic commands before they go off for their advance training to be a life changer at around 14 months old. I like to watch your training & then go to practice, it’s a fantastic help. Thank you.

My husband is not very steady on his feet & uses a cane. He likes to walk the dog, but I'm trying to make sure the small, but strong, dog does not pull him over. Your video about the out-of-control shepherd amazed me. i tried walking our dog in the house, as you suggested. He's treat motivated! Overnight, he got what I wanted him to do. I will continue to work with him, but he is already doing much better. Thank you SO much!

Absolutely fantastic video. I can see this is a long term project, requiring consistency and patience, but at each stage, you're giving the dog every chance to succeed. And of course i the mean time, having a ball training. You're my new dog-whisperer!

Nigel - another great video , so clearly illustrated I find it amazing it hasn’t got a lot more views . It’s obvious to see the dog’s learning curve , and I just wondered how many sessions on average it will take you to achieve the same results but with the owner of the dog in control ?
@nigelreed

Hi Chris, Glad you enjoyed it. On average a couple of weeks 2 sessions a day but each dog is different. Woody took me 3 weeks - 3 sessions a day.
