Whilst I have nothing useful to say in respect of the kit build ( sorry ! ) I would add thank goodness for "after market " products within the modelling community in whatever guise they take. With these items being produced for us it does save an awful lot of scratch building, which can be a double edged thing. Once again your honesty in reviews shines through and if I were to make a lot of your builds then I would always recommend this channel as a "go to " prior to either purchasing a kit or making one. Still following ! Grahame p.s. your wing description did raise a smile...."more rounded bottom and flatter top" Nuff said :))
@NigelsModellingBench5 жыл бұрын
Ha ha.. I actually said flatter bottom and more rounded top. As you can see in the comment from John, it is called the Davis wing. I remember reading that but as with most things these days, I forget!! If I get too techy I get accused of rivet counting.

Another sensible review Nige. I've seen Ian's work on LSP and even though I understand the wing issue I only fully "got it" after seeing the second picture you showed (in the factory and not the crashed one). For the money, I think it's a great model. A few issues but overall definitely worth building. Thanks

I would love to do "War goddess" out of the marking options that comes with the kit. Problem is that the kit (just like the old Monogram) only comes with the Emerson A15 nose turret. The A6B turret (sloped like the tail turret) was way more common on the "J" versions. Especially over europe. Of the markings that comes with the HB kit only "My akin ?" seems to be correct. All others should have either the A6B or A6A turrets. An obvious choice for an aftermarket decal sheet would be "The dragon and his tail" wich matches the overall look (B-24J-190 through 205-CO) of the HB kit. Sorry if i´m being too picky ;D If i manage to put my Monogram B-24M conversion together, i´ll seriously think about geting this one too. It does look like a nice kit.

Like Trumpeter they did not do homework properly Davis Wing & profile is not reproduced correctly. Shame ‘cause a kit is not cheap and that flat profile in 1/32 scale is unfortunately noticeable otherwise good model.

why is the front turret all frosted perspex my first hobby boss kit and it will be my last I used almost two tubes of filler joining the fusledge halves together we should not have to put up with this.

Nigel I just got this kit about a week ago and I was excited about it until I opened it up, my grandfather flew these beauties in the war and they were his life. I'm not boasting but I know alit about this plane my grandfather loved these planes I have all his pics of the planes he flew and worked on through the years and am going to use them in this build. It's a good kit but has alot of inaccuracies I'm willing to send some so we can build this kit and make it as accurate as possible. I'm building mine for a museum here in Utah and am making my own decals to make one of my grandfathers he flew in the war in his honor, getting chocked up thinking about it😢. I'm going to star building this soon and I'm excited to watch yours as well🖖

I would love to see any pics you wanna send me. nigelsmodellingbench@gmail.com is where you can send em. I also look forward to building this kit, but I won't be starting for a little while. I'll probably do a instructional video on the beautiful Airscale set when it arrives, but until then I'm busy on other stuff..

Hi Nige... The only major issue I have with the kit actually comes from the illustration on the front of the instructions where the top of the tail fin is way too flat and I hope is not replicated in the actual fins. Other than that, the engines are a bit weak but as you say,by the time they are in the cowls and the props on should hardly be a problem. The props look a tad fat and stubby but not disastrously wrong. And the turrets. Not good, but at least they're not 60s Airfix with permanent gunners holding bits of plastic. Including the price you can get it for, and I have seen £99 on eBay, it's a 9/10.
@NigelsModellingBench5 жыл бұрын
£99!! Bargain!! Lets see, is there a better value kit out there?? The fin is actually cropped on the instructions.

Hi there. I just picked up the J at my wholesaler and I checked it out. The clear nose turret parts are clear and frosted in the correct places. I assume Hobby Boss fixed this on later runs?

nige ive just completed this model,looks great wethered.yes the problem with the front turret especially evident, however ive gone overboard on the wethering to take the eye away from it.the kit decals are brittle
@NigelsModellingBench5 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob.. so, the decals are brittle eh?? Did you see me wrestle with that bloody spitfire a couple of weeks back? How does the rest of the kit go together? How much weight in the nose? Are the U/C legs strong enough? You can send pics to nigelsmodellingbench@gmail.com if you wanna show her off?
@Rob-tq5ym5 жыл бұрын
hi, the weight that would of had to be added was a LOT. so at the mo its sitting on brackets like the b17.great kit,it fits well but seems toy like as the fit is good ,just seems to click into place. i did mine olive drab and went to town with the wethering. now finished she looks great

The solid bronze eduard ones for the 109 are OK,but they have moulded on brake lines and the V shaped caliper at bottom that sticks out,is solid too.Ive just replaced that part on my ZM sws 1\48 Ta152,and the difference is chalk and cheese.Detailing brake lines to wheel's on both sides,and the fidelity of the hollow calipers would be a sad loss.But a 'bow legged' B24 would be worse.
@NigelsModellingBench5 жыл бұрын
These legs from Aeroscale are the same as the kit parts, inserts only, so should be just fiine.
@darronhedges58735 жыл бұрын
They came with Brassin essential Me109 kit.The photo's look good,but they are 'clunky' and quite TONKA.Instead of the famously delicate undercarraige of 109,you get two trunks,festooned with amorphous blobs,having two is a big help in identifying what they are.At first i thought 'great' till i compared them with kit part.That RFM T34\122 new tooling is a joy to build,also has a 30 year service history,and optional parts to make full use of its span in time.3 different types of T34 wheel,and 2 types of tyres.Only Mig so far done a quick review of built model.

endeavouring Beardsman I very much doubt it. The turrets are a complete resin f’ up and the wings are just a typical mistake from some companies these days.

yes it is .it is garbage it is that bad i put mine in the bin it was my first hobby boss kit and it will be my last the gap between the two fuseledge halves was bad enough but the fact that the front turret was all frosted plastic that was beyond a joke . revuers i would ask when giving marks about how good or bad a kit is i sugest you build it first

You are absolutely right Frank. This is the whole issue with in box reviews.. they show you what you're getting for your money, but they fail to show you how it goes together. I do not personally know anyone who's built the kit.

Hi Nigel, in this video you mention the cockpit bulkhead and seats not being correct. When I returned to KZbin home this short video on flying the B24 was suggested, take a look it's great, there wasn't much vision forward at all. i noticed the pilot landed looking out the side-forward window, even in flight there was limited forward vision. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWHEkoJvgqeam9k

Looks like a B-24 to me. I think most of us have built a Monogram bomber or two in our lifetime. So you know that those engines will come up looking very nice with minimal fuss. The turrets as they are, will need a lot of work to look good. (I hope Hobby Boss DO re-tool the molds to get rid of those nasty seam lines. And you said you have the brass mlg inserts on their way, so that's one less worry I guess. Nigel, with what you already have, and have coming, I think (other than those turrets) you have everything you need to build a very nice Liberator. Now, about the seats being a little far back. When I worked on the Grumman Trackers, the crew would almost always slide the seats back when they left the aircraft. If you could imagine the pilots trying to swing their legs out from under the control yoke, and over the center console without knocking off knobs and switches, you can see why it is a good idea. On the other hand, when I worked on the CF-5s, we would move the seats all the way forward so that when we "rode the brakes" during towing, we could apply brake pressure when needed. This would almost always upset the taller pilots, because they wore the parachutes on their backs, and had a hard time getting their knees under the dash before they could reach down and move the seat back again. Oh well!
